Rest in Peace, Fletch. It was good, but sad, to see you again on this video. I went to this concert back in 2017 in Washington, DC. Fantastic performance.
Wow. As a GenXer, Depeche Mode shaped much of my early musical taste. It's interesting to hear them explain how they see the world, given how analogous it is to how I see it as well. Really great interview.
A buddy of mine came up to Martin Gore one time he was djing in San Diego without knowing who he was until later just to complement his set and told me Martin was like the sweetest guy engaging in conversation just as if he wasn't the mind blowing rock star that he is.
I once met the former drummer of Siouxsie and the Banshees, Budgie, by accident in Berlin (where he lives). Hung out with him for 2 hours, a very sweet guy.
@@igorlevch7968 I met him by accident. I was in Berlin and was bored. Looked for concerts and went to this Gemma Ray concert. There were not a lot of people there and next to me was this guy who looked familiar. I asked who he was and he casually said 'he used to drum for Siouxsie and the Banshees'. Appartantly he lives in Berlin now and has worked on a Gemma Ray album. He also teaches drums in Berlin.

Lex Ham He's not musically inclined because he can't read sheet music and isn't trained? Music is an art form, it's malleable and entirely human. It's creative expression, so just because someone doesn't know how to read music notes doesn't mean it's impossible for them to make beautiful art. It must take a stroke of genius to create art in such a way that captivates millions of people.
Lex Ham Alright man it'd be a waste of my time debating you because as you said you'll stick by your opinion regardless of what I or anyone says. Thanks for calling us deluded it really helps get your point across. I doubt anyone will be holding Vince Clark at such high regards as Bach or any of the other composers you mentioned. In my opinion Gore is a brilliant songwriter, without him Depeche Mode wouldn't be where they are today. I really appreciate what he's done. Btw he's also played various instruments while touring with Depeche Mode and even provides vocals to their songs. The man is talented and you'll never take that away from him, regardless of what you think.
Lex Ham So you agree with me he's talented but then say that everything he does is so basic that even your children can do it. I'm sure you're aware that you're basically undermining Gore's contribution to the band and his music by stating things like "Gahan's singing is what sales" and the way he plays an instrument makes you cringe. You're almost implying that the real geniuses behind Depeche Modes music are the sound engineers and producers in the studio. I have no idea what their whole recording process is, but I'm sure it's comparable to all modern artists out there. They bring a demo, then they refine the sound and rework the composition in the studio. I've heard some of Depeche Modes demos written by Gore, demos that you can tell were probably recorded in his bedroom or wherever, but definitely not in a studio by sound engineers. I think humble pieces such as that truly showcase his creative qualities. As for Vince Clark, we both know he's never reached the heights that Depeche Mode has. Maybe a few hits here and there but definitely not Depeche Mode quality - but music is subjective. I can't believe you're implying that Depeche Mode wouldn't be where they are today without Vince Clark. They seem to have done extremely well without him; if they weren't great they wouldn't have been able to maintain their popularity and their solid music.
Seminal band of the eighties. Their originality and influence was profound and enduring. These guys, The Cure, Psychedelic Furs, Echo and the Bunnymen, and others totally rekindled my interest in music and I'm very grateful to all of them for that.

Shame how they just erase Alan Wilder from their history. They may have been big in the 80s, but he helped them become massive worldwide and carried them when Dave Gahan was killing himself with drugs, Martin Gore was a drunk and Andy Fletcher had a nervous breakdown. No wonder he left.
They are usually a little more open about Alan Wilder than they are here, especially if asked directly. That said, I think its hard to expect them to bring up Wilder at every opportunity as he's been out for over 14 years. Plus, he's been a bit of a recluse recently.
