I love how plays almost exactly how the album drums were recorded even 20 something years later. So good. All the nuances are still there. A lot of musicians tend to start improvising a lot to keep things fresh, but this is still solid!
All the comments here. spot on! Jose is so magnetic to watch while plying his craft. So smooth, technical and deliberate in his drumming. He has the strength, but without the "bashing" or jerky movement. Silky smooth, but powerful. 🤘
He's soooooo much fun to watch. He gets those elbows up. He's magnetic to watch live. He's a hard-hitting finesse drummer. He doesn't pound. Look at this snare hand and you'll see his fingers almost all the way open like a jazz drummer. Another thing about this song is that its very easy to rush. In spite of how technical it is, he's actually restraining himself. Very very very good drummer.
I just noticed the picture to his left under his top-hat. I assume that’s his wife and kids. Regardless, of who, that’s what real men do. The song is one of my favorites for 20 years. Jose, excellent. 🙏✌️👏
Even eight years after this video was released, I have always loved this song. I am a guitarist, but this was a pleasure to watch. Thank you for sharing this. May you, your family, and everyone else be safe and healthy. I wish you a wonderful day. Even in the midst of chaos, these troubling times we live in, may you be calm in your heart. ☮
Jose told himself Stewart was a major influence on his own style, you can definitelly see that on the "sick sad little world" drum cover and "Driven to Tears" (The Police Live Frejus 1978)
Thanx so much for posting these video's Jose....Ive always said they never show enough of you playing so myself and the rest of your fans really appreciate these. Keepem coming!!!
Man, I started playing guitar like AGES ago when S.C.I.E.N.C.E came out. Been a guitar player since then and only recently started to drum. You have NO IDEA how I'm looking/learning at/from your craft after so many years. Your hihat work and overall looseness yet powerful and precise. I never thought about it, but whenever I hear you play, there's a Pasillas sound to it, no doubt. Anyway, hope you're doing great man!
3:09 and the other choruses, one-hand roll. Makes so much more sense now. My favourite part is 2:55-2:59 though. Yes, silence and 2 hi hats make the song to me.
Nice drumming dude!! How often you change drumsticks?? The accent 18" cymbal i think is like a knife for the right drumstick also the hight of the hi hat helps a lot to eat the drumsticks fast as a shark!! If someone see things didn't stand only to the drumming that is fantastic and the sound of course!!
Dude is way under-rated, absolutely sick drumming. Unique as fuck.
Facts!

Yeah, I mean, there are some bits different from the album version, but I agree, solid stuff here
i never saw anyone play drums like him.this dude is so technical.
