    Thanks for the blog it's entertaining and the comradie is what I miss most of the military. If I could redo my life I would've gone to the greatest school on earth West Point. The history, traditions, and values are exemplified in the cadet student body and it shows. At 55 I'm on the last legs of my life and my last mission and the only thing I have on my bucket list is to visit the campus for a few days and see a football game especially the Army Navy game. Thanks for blogging and I look forward to seeing the remaining posts. Godspeed in your career and may you have great health and much success. Ken.

    I was a little surprised the cadets weren't required to take their trays to disposal. Reminds me of the old days when Officers had a DRO (day room orderly) tend to their needs when in the mess hall - now called a DFAC.

    This is why i chose to Enlist, both my parents are attorneys, I am now in law school in clovis, CA. could have easily gone to college right out of high school. But leaning how the real Army works as a private to sergeant was much more beneficial to my development as both a soldier and now as a civilian. Days after my ETS i was enrolled at Fresno State, 4 years and 6 days after leaving the military I graduated from college. Thinking of joining the Military? Enlist, learn, take all chances to advance and never call your team leader, squad leader, or platoon sgt SIR. A good way to catch a round house kick square to the chest. Ive seen this, Ive done this, you dont want this. And i wasn't the NCO that provided the round house. Still though one of my best friends had a little trouble while attending West Point and joined me and my company of Sappers to Afghanistan in 09 and after he said it was the best thing that could have happened to him. He returned to WP, graduated and is now a Major loving life so i'am not putting down our military colleges they produce the very best of the best. I simply believe if you want to learn how to train soldiers for war its going to come from your NCO's.

    • @LongGrayLessons
      @LongGrayLessons  6 років тому +2

      Couldn't agree more, George. I can't say the enlisted route is for everyone (and neither is the officer route) but it certainly widens your horizons and a broader perspective on life. I am very thankful for my enlisted background prior to attending West Point. I felt much more confident and more mature with my studies going in.

      I didn’t go to West Point but have worked hard to stay fit my whole life. What’s happened here is that you forgot what it was like to be 18. I was a skier and runner in college and always ran 50 miles per week. I had to work hard to eat enough slamming down huge breakfasts like that, eating an extra burger whenever they cane close, tons of roast beef sandwiches. Here I am almost 50 years later and disabled and I gain weight thinking about food I like to eat. I’d really like to be 18 for another 50 years.

    • @xBlankScreenDenmark
      @xBlankScreenDenmark 7 років тому

      AP and honors classes whenever possible, try to get A's in them. USMA doesn't have its own medical school, you either go to USUHS (where you are a full commissioned 2nd LT, tuition paid for, etc) or another program called HPSP (where you are basically treated like a reserve serviceman, but you can attend normal civilian med school).

    • @LongGrayLessons
      @LongGrayLessons  6 років тому

      I agree with Blank Screen. Try to take on AP/honor courses in order to validate the courses later on at USMA. That way, you can clear up your schedule to take on your major courses earlier or take electives you're interested in. Also, if you decide to study abroad, this will reduce your stress and course load.
      As far as medical school, West Point doesn't offer a medical school. You are able to attend medical school after graduation. There are two options: HPSP and USUHS. Both are scholarships which allow you attend either a military medical school (USUHS) or a civilian medical school (HPSP). Both are highly competitive (less than 2% of your class will be selected to go). If you have anymore questions, feel free to reach out on my social media!
