Yes, Malaysia n its diversity from d food cultures of Malay, Chinese, Indian incl other ethnics from Sabah n Sarawak, definitely makes d country a melting pot.
As a Penangnite living overseas, watching all these familiar places in your video really warms my heart and is making me miss home (and the food!) Enjoy Penang and thank you Ken!
OMG....you have grown so much over the past 12 months.....eating like a local and knowing to appreciate the local flavours. Also, you can now eat seafood. No wonder you were missing the Asian flavours when you were in Germany.
Teochew (pronounced: Chaozhou) is Chaozhou, it is a city in Guangdong Province, China, During the 18th and 20th centuries, Teochew residents were one of the main Chinese ethnic groups who immigrated to Southeast Asia! The bean cake you bought is usually enjoyed with tea, if you eat it by yourself, it is recommended not to buy that box! In fact, that Oyster omelet you eat is a night market snack from Taiwan!
for those view ken channel, hopefully can support ken channel in order road to achieve 100K subscriber. He do lot of afford to explore and promote Malaysia. Support Ken guys💪💪💪💪
As a Penangite living away from Penang, I must say that your choice of going to Bee Hooi for the oyster omelette was quite a surprise to me. I've been a patron of that shop for over 40 years now! Some of the stalls there have been there since day 1, passed on from generation to generation. Fantastisches Video! Gut erledigt!
Hi!, ken abroad...I'm penangite...I practically loves all the foods from my hometown..I'm now reside in kL..so always missing especially when watching your vlog while you eating.
Ahhh... my favorite....Street food.....The famous Teochew Cendol all around Malaysia...Last time I was in Penang was 2019.... I have been to this particular Char Kuey Teow stall before.... Great you are enjoying local Malaysian cuisines.... Your tastebuds are getting accustomed to Asian dishes.....As always stay safe out there..and take care mate.
My fave is another unique kind of Oyster Omelette at Topspot Seafood Foodcourt in Kuching, it has got crispy texture dip in sauce...I'm not sure if it is still served at Premier 101 Food Centre (also huge famous street food in Kuching mostly serve Chinese menu). For Malay street food, frequently visited is Uptown Metrocity Matang. Also for traditional native cuisine, either Rumah Asap Tabuan Dayak or further down a bit is Langkau Arau Rumah Asap Dayak. Most stalls are open in the evening
Wow you manage to find that koay teow soup stall but there was once stall I preferred. It was at chow Rasta market. The soup was boiled from chicken, duck, bones. Best koay teow soup for breakfast.
That was an awesome food vlog, Ken !!! Love the food and desserts you had....definately looked yummy. Yeah, if you see a long queue at the stalls, it implies that the food is good. Those 2 pastry shops "Ghee Hiang" and "Him Hiang" are famous for their different types of pastries/biscuits. I always get my biscuits from there. The biscuits which you bought are called "tau sah pneah". They are a bit dry though....good to eat them with a cup of coffee/ tea. Cost of raw ingredients has gone up hence the prices of food/desserts too went up. Least you could still get 5 items for RM50 plus 🤓😆👍
Although I am a Penangite, I never go to the chendol stall and the char koay teow at Siam Road, simply because I will never wait behind a long queue to buy food. I normally order my char koay teow without chinese sausage as I don't like the sweet taste of the sausage with the fried koay teow, although I love the sausage in claypot rice. As for the chinese pastry, tambun biscuit, you can also get varieties in some places, with salted egg, durian, sambal or black sesame. For oyster omelette, it taste better if it is prepared with duck eggs instead of chicken eggs, but very few places offer this variety now.
Yeah there are other alternatives where you can get delicious food without having to wait that long. I only went to Penang road famous teochew cendol when interstate travel was banned. That's the only time there's no long queue there.
Very nice places and great food, as I commented already,I have been in Penang many, many times to renew my visa. Every time stayed in George Town,Banana Hotel
Hi Ken 👋🏻 Penang is definitely the best place for food hunting especially hawkers food besides it's so cheap too 👍 from main dish to desserts they have so much to offer , I love Penang food they are the best be it malay dish , chinese or Indian food 👍 thanks for the Penang food vlog , awesome 👍🥰
That’s my favorite Cendul place, I grew up in the neighborhood and used to cycled there to get the cendul, way before it became super popular amongst tourists around the world. Back then it was RM0.80 per serving, so you can imagine how long before that was...
Its skbeebee here...wow I m so hungry watching this video..good job Ken sourcing out the best outlets and choices available..first dish such a comfort food
Is that Char Kuey Teow without chili? My husband always orders it without chili too but for me, chili gives CKT a deeper flavor.😋 You can ask for just a smidgen of chili. Also I think what you had is Tau Sar Pneah. Don’t quote me but if I’m not mistaken, Tambun biscuit is slightly different. Both with a mung bean filling but Tau Sar Pneah is bigger with a flakier, softer crust. Him Heang is my favorite too even though some people may disagree.😅 I enjoyed the video so much. Can’t wait to be back in my hometown Penang!🇲🇾 Edit: My recommendation for fried oyster is from OO White Coffee cafe. As for Bee Hooi, wan tan mee, chicken rice and poh piah are good!😋
Hi Ken! Well done at explaining the details of the food! You did your research - great effort! You are also missing some of the Penang famous food which I was really surprised such as Nasi Kandar Kampung Melayu, Mee Udang, Pasembur, Nasi tomato 😂 Not forgetting their amazingly fresh seafood. There could be more and I will let Penangites tell you more hehe ..
Go Lebuh Cecil Market located near to the 1st Avenue mall. All penang street food inside. Almost half-price / without Q / better taste, than any famous stall u been up there. 1 market can cover all type of food.
Excellent George TOWN CHar Kuey ... WOW... Please do the South iNdian White Refined wheat parotta.. meats and seafood.. Including BANANA Leaf... meal with all South Indian veggies... In the next video...
Didnt really try the penang cendol before haha, the char kuey teow that u waited for 1 hour is crazy long for a waiting time for food. Really craving for the omelette that u had as my place (kuantan) dont really have many restaurants that serve good omelette
So proud of you, Ken...this vlog really good job and hit all the right spot for worth the money paid for as standard and quality maintained..to hear Him Hiang and Ghee Hiang from Ken, amazing.. favourite of many old timers from years ago..the cendol ,char kuey teow, okay throw theng all so we'll pronounced and described...yes, we always remember Greg and Jumi from Food and Footprints when we watch this vlog and how Ken progressing in taste buds ,soon to be Mark Weins 💪🤗😋

Hey Ken wat a yammie good😋there in Maleisië en so cheap i love it.cendol its my favoriete desserts.my mom makes IT at home in the Summers with jack fruit in IT😋.thanks for shoing us the yummie food Ken🙏
The crunchiness of the char koay teow is caused by beansprouts. You don't have to go to the "best" stalls in Penang, as they're over-run with tourists. You can generally get very good hawker food in Georgetown. It's not a foodie haven for nothing.
You can't come Johor Bahru to eat food. In Skudai Johor cendol have 1 old men stall. This cendol very good delicous. In Sri Skudai beside Telekom Malaysia.
seeing that you are having a great time with asian street foods makes me appreciate our street food here more .. hopefully looking forward for you to try some filipino street soon if happens that you can manage to travel here as man we got really a lot of street food to offer & by watching these kind of contents makes me want to try our street food that i haven't been tried before just because of the long line 😹
Ken here's another option for nyonya kuih: Li Er cafe pulau tikus. Also other kuih stalls to check out: "Penang famous samosa" stall, Queen Street and "Mamu kuih" stall outside Taman tun Sardon food court, Gelugor.
I know you didn't get what you're looking for at Batu lanchang food court but there are other food stalls inside the food court that is worth checking out. Next time you're there, go to Tony ais kacang for a bowl of mouthwatering cendol without having to queue.
Wow, now you are in my home state, welcome, and enjoy your food-adventure! If you need home-cooked food, head to my home. Btw, I live on the mainland of Penang. I'll cook Malay authentic food for you! ..hehehe
10 dollars / RM44 can get 10 local foods.. Of course you won't be able to consume it all in a day. Do suggest to have a cup of tea with it when you're having the biscuits dessert. Char Koay Teao in Penang basically good on any store you go no need to Q for that long. In Penang it is hard to list out favourite street foods.... Mostly all are delicious!

Oyster omelette sounds delicious 😋
It is THE dish to have as street food in Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and southern China (and I think Vietnam too). My name non-fish friends find this great as they're not into fresh oysters and sashimi
