It's not only that, as a pop singer they do not know how to work with a soprano/tenor, they do not have wide options for songs and presentantions, Is mostly because public itself does not choose opera singers over pop (as popular cultures) singers

They are not just judges, they are coaches. They know that they cannot coach classical singers like Divina because they, as non-classical musicians, cannot teach her anything she doesn't already know.

@@natehan it's not so much that she wore it a lot and more that she wore it on this and once on all together now. Probably the highest profile things she'd done before Drag Race. She does have other looks and as she said she hasn't actually worn this one that many times.

+hililala321 The person would only be chosen as a filler since it is doubtful that type of singing would do well on I-tunes. The last classic star singers were around in the early1990s and then they were in their twilight years.
A little late, but: If they were actually well trained musicians they could tell by the sound of the voice - male and female falsetto is quite easy to tell apart.
@@orlock20 Well the classical charts are still around its just a bit of a Niche genre nowadays but you have people like Andrea Botticelli, Hayley Westenra, Katherine Jenkins of that ilk who are keeping it going. There is a misconception that to be successful you have to be in the mainstream charts but that's really not true, like jazz opera and classical music might be struggling to stay relevant but there is an audience out there its just not as in your face as pop music it depends on people's tastes really. Besides modern chart music is crap anyway.

Once again the judges miss a golden opportunity to gift the world a new megastar! If anything demonstrates that this show is all above board it is this performance, because on reflection all four judges must regret not turning. Is this effectively a castrato performance? No doubt someone will know the technical details better than me, but if anyone was made for Boy George it was Divina (real name Owen??), but once again the show (and the viewers) miss out. His performance was mock-opera rather than the real thing. perhaps that's what the judges were hearing, but Divina has a personality that I already miss. (But it's all about the Voice, yeah?)
It is all about pop voice this year. Someone who will do covers for one album and doesn't detract attention from judges.

They didn't turn because it was something that they *probably* had no experiencing with handling, the wouldn't know what to do or what direction to go with such a voice or style of signing. :P
@otakurocks I mean having artists direct you is beneficial or can be. I mean, not all singing is technique based or applies to music standard to sing in said style or to get a specific sound that the artist has as a goal in mind. An artist can also help said vocalist zone in further on their desired genre.
Yeah someone might come in as a rock singer, but rock is so broad and wide of a spectrum with so many lanes and directions of sound. You can't compare Joan Jett to Janis Joplin or Paramore to Florence + the Machine.

I was yelling at the TV when no one turned around, anyone that sounds too old, or is old, opera singing or is singing muscial... they won't get through. I use to love this show, but it's lost it's touch this year.

They didn't know her 7 octave singing capabilities because she only showed that she can sing opera. If she started with pop, or something most people could vibe too, then blew us away with her opera and skill, we'd have ALL wanted her to win.

I've learnt this piece, it's grade 8+. 'Poor Wandering One' from The Pirates of Penzance by Gilbert and Sullivan. Divina didn't do it perfectly, but she did it better than me, better than most people I've seen in fact, and the fact she's a man makes her execution of it incredibly impressive. Hats off to her.

I too immediately thought of castrato performances and wondered how this performance compared. Of course we'll never know as the practice faded out in the 1800s - well before recordings were made.
I also remembered 'Tiny Tim' who did incredibly well with arguably a far weaker voice than that of Divinas.
The judges are missing out on a lot of quality 'alternative' voices this season (particularly on the edition televised 14 Feb.) and have become very narrow vis a vis genre.
That's sad as we certainly won't have a rounded final in 2016.
