This guy is a true artist and a visionary. His gift is to interpret things in new and challenging ways. I love the reality that he has created and the juxtaposition of space and gravity. The world could certainly use more tinkerers and thinkers of this sort.
I'm not sure why trolls feel entitled to criticize the presentation, the affect or the sound quality. This film is not about quality of acting or an invitation to comment on personal affect. That kind of negativity must hurt and it serves no purpose.
Kudos, instead, to Mr. Shannon, for having the courage to speak to what he has accomplished. The world is a richer place for what he has done.

Tom Shannon is brilliant. Presenting art and science in it's purest form. It's sad to think he should be nervous by the presence of any crowd. This is just genius.

I have to agree that he seems nervous. I would be so excited to present my work, but I too would be nervous. This work is an art form of the extreme conscience! I agree...BRILLIANT!

Every talk given by an artist has a comments section filled with people complain about how boring the artist's voice is. I wonder if most visual artists are boring to listen to, or if people watching TED videos are just so picky that they would rather have an entertaining vocal cadence than interesting content.

    • @jjaapp18
      @jjaapp18 8 років тому

+Crystal Roseman Shut up. I'm tired of listening to people like you whine about how "rude" other people are. If you don't like it, just ignore it. No one cares that you're more considerate than most people. Gloating about how you can tolerate a boring voice just makes you the annoying one.

I love when art and science and mathematics come together like this. Many people take for granted to beauty of the world around us and things we see everyday, and Shannon does a fantastic job portraying them in hos artwork.

Magnets don't "suck" energy. He clearly said that it was a permanent magnet. That means it requires NO energy to create its magnetic field. That's what makes it "permanent."

I built my own passive solar, energy efficient home in paradise and have extremely small utility bills.

You are right, of course, there are bigger things to complain about.
I was just adding a minor qualification to my approval for this artist's work.
I love what he is doing, and it would be good if it were privately-funded.
All schools should be privatized as well, with needs-based vouchers going only to the bottom 30% based on income and assets.
And I agree that the war is far worse than art spending.
    I'd just prefer neither.
I'd also prefer not to encounter the 'f'-word so often...

Watch David Lynch's video. Art is incredibly important.
I agree that commercial art can be overdone, especially regarding the incredibly high prices put on some pieces (gives an elitist feel to art and relegates it to something that's exclusive to high society), but the pieces themselves have great intrinsic value. I think this is especially so when they are viewed with others.

    Wonderful!
I'm all for it, as long as the funding is voluntary.
That means, NO government/taxpayer funding should be given for these, nor any art project.
We should have a separation of art and state, for the same reasons we favor a separation of church and state.
Power corrupts, and the government tends to corrupt art.
Forcing people to pay for art via taxes is wrong.
But I do hope these projects get lots of voluntary, charitable funding! They are cool!

I have invented a space-and-time-travelling craft that is bigger on the inside than the outside because it exists mostly in the time vortex and is therefore physically outside of the physical universe we currently inhabit. The part of it that projects into our universe can be formed into any shape, so the entry portal may be disguised as a mundane object or piece of scenery appropriate to the time period or environment it arrives in.
It can't actually be built yet, but the concept is amply demonstrated by the Doctor Who series. I think that adequately validates it... o.o

Very intelligent, but by far a gravity defying object.
