Careful on cheap benches. I had one break while benching. Went from flat to decline in split second. Almost died. Don’t use clips at home. You can always dump the weight.

I have always had the basics in my basement. Squat rack, (where I pretty much do everything with), resistance bands, and my wife has a bowflex treadmill to go with it. My gym membership was just for a change of scenery and environment. Now that it's closed, I'm reminded of how much more intense my workouts are at home when I'm alone in the zone. I will probably cancel my membership.

The unexpected bonus of this rack is the holes on the pull-up bar which I use to put a carabiner for the DIY cable pulley setup I installed thanks to Garage Gym Review's other video. Note that if you're over 6' tall, this rack might be on the short side for you.

Brandon Huynh I’ve had no problems with metal flaking off. I know another comment in here brought up that they wished there was knurling in the middle but, I find the matte finish creates enough friction that it’s not an issue for me. I’ve squatted with the bar too and was never worried about it rolling or slipping off my back.

Everything was secure and in good shape. No weird smells. The weight changing mechanism is really smooth and straight forward. Changing weight is really fast and easy. Though the handle is plastic, I don't think it will be breaking anytime soon. So far pretty impressed after my first session with them. Got to haunt the thrift stores regularly man! Many years ago I got 385 pounds of standard cast iron plates ranging from 20 lbs down to 1 1/4 lbs sizes with three standard straight 25lb bars and two sets of dumbbell bars all complete with all their collars to put the plates on for $30 for the collection. They were all rusty and dirty. They cleaned up like new with a wire brush, some spray primer and paint. Have since painted them again after 35years out on my back porch. Got a Sears or JC Penny bench with incline capability, leg attachment and squat rack back in the mid 1980s to go with those free weights, not sure what I paid for that...maybe a couple hundred bucks tops. It was new at the time. Bent curl bar was about $10, and a few years ago I picked up a complete Total Gym 1000 (a very base model but still great) in virtually perfect condition with all its attachments AND the book and poster for $25. Can't beat that with a stick! A pile of pairs of small 1lb to 15lb cast iron dumbbells and 4 sizes of kettlebells from the local second hand sporting goods store for maybe a $1 a pound rounds it out. Got a used magnetic resistance trainer stand for my bicycle off ebay for about $17 so I can ride indoors in bad weather. Got a 75Lb canvas heavy bag for about $30, cover was old and shredded, bought a couple yards of canvas and some seat belt material at the fabric store and sewed a new cover myself. Welded up my own Thor's hammer dumbbell bar with collar out of some scrap in my welding pile. Glorious for forearms. Getting ready to weld up a stand for the heavy bag, new house doesn't have a porch to hang it from... And some new racks for all the weights and bars. Scrap steel goes for about $1.89/lb around here.
Yard sales are good too!! And moving sales! Got a monster big multi stack home gym station one time for FREE for helping a friend move. He had to move in a hurry and didn't want it anymore. Was probably about a $1200 unit new back in its day. Used it for a couple years off and on, but it was a little too big for me (I'm a 5'4" woman and a lot of the equipment out there just has too wide a stance or reach for my size) and ended up giving it away to a friend. He used it for a few months and dropped 50lbs right away! You would be amazed what you can get second hand for dirt cheap. Some people will just give you stuff if you can haul it away for them.
And then I got a nice recumbent bike free a few years ago for my 15year service gift from the company I was working for. That was a definite upgrade from the little lapel pin I got for my 3 year gift...
Now, if I would just get off my posterior, uncover the pile of stuff in my workshop and actually start using it all again... :/

I train (weighted) calisthenics + squats this is what I bought over the years:
    1. Pullup Bar €50
    2. Dip Bar €50
    3. Weighted vest €50
    4. Squat rack €250
    5. Barbell €150
    6. 2x 10kg adjustable dumbells €30
    7. Home made concrete weightplates €20 startup cost then €5 per 20kg
The squat rack is the highest expense but they are just really expensive where I live.

You can also do calisthenics for free! And buy a weight vest to add more weight. The ThenX UA-cam channel is one of the best out there

I want at least 6 45 Olympic plates and even choosing the cheapest plates, them alone are already $450. So the idealistic range is really around 800-1000.

I dont really have enough money for most of this, I'm planning to make cement plates with a bar from a building site and build the rack out of scrap wood

I absolutely LOVE Amy adjustable dumbbells from Nordic Track ❤I even splurged for the stand ( it was my Birthday Present to myself) I’m 42 and I can wear my cute summer tank tops and feel sexy with my arm NOT flapping in the wind 💨 😂I have a jeep and I have wanted for years to take the hard top off in the summer and not think about what style top I had on !!! I always had this irrational fear that my batwings could be seen by other drivers going down the high way 😮 Lol ❤🤣I Love my dumbbells

I ended up building a squat rack and just bought up anything I could for a home gym. Cost about 1000 bucks so my stimulus check is stimulating the gains.
