  • In this video series I want to see if it's possible to buy, recomission and daily drive a classic car for under £1000. I've chosen one of my favourites, an SD1.
I'll keep a track of all the expenditure, what parts I replace and why, and hopefully get it done under budget!

This one is a keeper ! I replaced my shocks with Koni back in the day ..transformed it ..they still look space age !! Cant wait to see the transformation and if you can make it reliable enough for a daily D

Excellent! Great to see you back with another SD1. Definitely worth buying for 500. Looking forward to the next update and the Metro video

You've obviously done well there Phil. Cleaned up and running that's probably worth at least 2 bags. I could easily go for something very very similar myself but I'd say that one should be a keeper... Don't want to badger you about it too much but if you want a hand with it just let me know. Not after UA-cam stardom, just want practice at trying to get them up and running and electrical know how always very handy.
    Will.

The rear doors can be opened after removing the door cards. Yes, it's a faff to do, but they can be removed with the doors closed. Then, be prepared for scratches, they're part of the struggle to free the door latch mechanism. Armed with a good torch, some WD40, plus screwdrivers. While the door latch mechanism will put up a good fight. You'll win, eventually. And your scars will only take a couple of weeks to heal. Been there, done this, got those scratches. And yes. I did get both rear doors opened. But it wasn't easy. Shane. :-) p.s. Mine was similar in silver, a 2.6 auto, with a VDP dash added, and Vit. wheels as well. No rear spoiler. All told it was seriously good fun, and then some. Wishing you well. (p.p.s. New dash tops are fairly cheap and easy to get, from Rimmer Bros.)

@@Classic_and_Retro Glad to see you read my comment. If there's anything else that you need some SD! advice on, feel free to get on touch with me on here. Plus I believe I've got some new bits and pieces here and there. FREE to a good home, like yours. Just post costs and they're yours. Of the top of my head, I know that's I've got some, some hah, lots of suspension rubbe.. well they're the nylon ones, or is the word, Nyloc? ..and not rubber ones. Where they are for, and how many, lord knows ten yrs or more since parting with my 2.6. If you don't take them, then the chances are they'll all go in the bin. I've got door mirrors, kept for their great stainless steel. Which believe it or now, damaged ones can be removed, and good s/h replacements put on in their place. Without having to touch the complete door mirror assembly. With a partly dismantlement Scimitar SE6a in my stable now. So I'm unlikely to own another SD1. My but, it's a great fun, flying machine you've got, but be warned, you'll need your own fuel tanker beside you. There's certain to be other bits, you'd like, or need. Plus I used to have contacts of SD1 specialist breakers. If I can help, just ask. (I also have my own UA-cam channel. Under, Reliant Scimitar SE6a.) Shane. :-) (Wish I could volunteer to help re rear doors - there!) And I would to, honestly!

'You're an idiot for buying another SD1'!! Lol, sorry couldn't resist that.
No seriously, looks a good one and for £500...bargain in this day and age. Looks like it just needs a light recommission and a tidy up. Hopefully. Look forward to seeing the progress.

Love driving a classic on a budget! Been doing it for years. Had a video series getting my 1975 Jaguar XJ6 back on the road on a very tight budget and then use it as a daily. Needs a new engine now but it will be back soon.
Love the SD1! Should be a good driver
Is it alright if I share this video with my subscribers? I think they'll enjoy it!

@@Classic_and_Retro I have shared the video now. I hope you're able to film a part 2 soon.
I've never driven an SD1 but it's on my bucket list
