  • A purchase made from Mathewsons classic car auction. This lovely Wolseley 18 85 is finished in the colour of 'Wild Moss' with brown leather interior. Mechanically identical to the Austin and Morris 1800 variant's but with distinctive grille and luxurious interior finishing. Thank you for watching :)

    Love these cars. A mate of mine in Greenwich had one when we were all youngsters about 40 years ago. One of the first cars I drove and I’ve always loved them. Thanks for sharing.

    Very nice looking car. I learnt to drive in my Dads Wolseley Six and i always fancied owning one. I knew someone as a child who had a 72 (very late ) 18/85 in Wild Moss. Its a rare colour and a long time since i have seen the colour.

    Absolutely love the 18/85 and could never afford one,had several Austin/Morris 1800s and they all did mega miles without any major failure’s. The last one had done about 150,000 miles but the bodywork was suffering from the rust bug which was a thing with them. If they were made today I would order a Wolseley 18/85 S immediately even if I had to wait until it was built,fabulous vehicle probably the best car British Leyland ever built but not according to the motoring press but we all know how knowledgeable they were.

    When cars had style and identity, you could line cars up now take the badge off and they all look the same.

    They were good cars only real issue I ever encountered on them power steering rack leaks.
    Automatic version was better than the manual. The chain driven BW35 autobox was well matched to the engine.

    Well done. I saw this car on their video and thought it was a very good example. Love these. I live in Tasmania Australia and have an Austin 3 L, very rare here. So many things inside your car are also on the 3 L. Same seats, door cards, wood cappings on doors but dash is different. Yours is nicer IMHO. Thanks for doing video. Have subscribed so I can follow progress on it although I suspect not much will need doing.

    Lovely old classic car you have bought yourself there. Enjoy every mile in it.
    These cars were known for being very comfortable & roomy inside.
    I do like the nice wooden dashboard, real wood of course & may I ask what is gauge above the driver's vent on dashboard please? Is that an ammeter & does it work?
    Take care in that car now. When cars were cars back then & not computers on wheels like they seem to be nowadays!

    • @iDayno
      @iDayno  10 годин тому +1

      Thank you. You're correct, that gauge was an ammeter although I'm not sure if it ever worked. Looking at older photos of the car, there used to be a cigarette lighter in place of it so probably something that's been changed around by previous owner's. Agree with you there, they're a completely different experience to newer cars but more enjoyable I think. Thanks for watching :-)

    • @matthewvwuk
      @matthewvwuk 10 годин тому +1

      @@iDayno you can check to see if ammeter works by switching on the headlamps & you should get a negative reading on ammeter. When you start the engine you should get positive reading as generator charges the battery.
      If it doesn't work maybe gauge has gone faulty or not wired in at all, just for show as such.
