I was so waiting for a Sonu Nigam example explaining Rafi Sahab.
Oh man. They used to put so much effort and dedication into music. You see the passion, like they truly truly worship their art. It's like they lived for their art.
The best part about you is that you don't just hear a song, you listen to them and that also very deeply, enjoying each and every part of the song.
And then you record it on the spot, which I feel.
"aap usko gaake sirf formality karte h nibha nahi re h" this shit hit tight in the heart
Din dhal jaye is my most favorite song, ever! That song has something that just binds me! And the funny thing is, when you hear the song, you feel like you can also sing it like that. But when you actually try to sing that song, you realize how much difficult it is. That song was sang naturally by Rafi Sahab but that song is so slow. Its freakishly hard to sing that slow, with that much emotion. And I have never seen anyone try to sing that song in Indian Idol or any other show. Cz it's impossible to sing that song. Yes there are few covers I think, and not to disrespect them, they aren’t even 10% closer to what Rafi Sahab did with that song.
There is another singer from bengal who was contemporary for this 4 legends is Shri Hemanta Mukherjee. Even though I am a early 20s child still I like this 5 legends along some other 70s, 80s singers very much.

I had listened to both, and we can't compare cuz despite being same song, it is still based on different genres, but if I tell that kishore da had edge over rafi sahab, kishore da was not so much big name that days and rafi sahab was a huge unshakable mountain ❤,but no one would had expected that this will start an millions miles long rivalry, but as a rafi sahab die hard fan❤ i would be some biased but, being honest I should say that kishore da had surpassed rafi sahab in many aspects in this song💀

I know not many people has listen to Bhupen Hazarika. But he has sung in Rudali, but he mostly sang in Bengali and Assamese.
If you can listen to his "O ganga tumi o ganga boicho kano." If you understand that. You will get goosebumps for lyrics and the style of singing.
Bhupen Hazarika had a haunting voice which felt like a wind blowing in the night. Bangali with Assamese roots here, so I've heard him extensively. Good to find you. :)

The fact Sonu Nigam emulates Rafi sahab is a testament to his greatness.
One Singer of modern era according to me who can also pull the same emotians the dynamism and expression in his song Is Sonu Nigam...remember the song ' Accha sila diya tune mere pyaar ka'.
What i think is hapenning with modern singing industry is they dont want the emotions all they want is numbers...
Please listen to Aakhiri kadam Tak by Sonu Nigam if you've not. An underrated masterclass on expressions. The only Sonu Nigam and Mithoon combination unfortunately.

You are right Aye gulbadan song has many variations I mean Mukhda is High pitched followed by low pitched anataras pitch is continuously changing yet the feel Rafi sahab had given to it makes it one of the best romantic tracks sung by him You can also listen jaan e bahar husn Tera bemisaal hai by Rafi
