Proud to be a part of this video. Thankyou for choosing my video. You have a very dedicated audience I must say as I got many beautiful comments on this video of mine telling how they came from IIP. The amount of research it must have taken to make this video is incredible. Nailed it.
Very poor research. The entire analysis seems to be based on the myth called Aryan Invasion theory (or Aryan migration theory) which has been proven to be wrong by many scientists from different fields. While counting vowels and consonants, they simply ignore the vowel अ so imposing an unscientific method on Indian scripts which are highly scientific. The letter ळ is found in all Indian languages except Hindi and Bengali. Also Sanskrit has the word छुरिका which they seem to have missed.
You are the most underrated Marathi singer at the moment, but don't worry as time will fly you will be recognised as Marathi singing legend. Mark my words!

Marathi is one but the tone of speaking Marathi changes every 60 km in Maharashtra. Like Marathi of Pune sounds different and that of Kolhapur sounds different. And the interesting thing is that if a Marathi man goes to another district of Maharashtra, then it is easily understood from which district or which area he has come.😊 Jai Bharat 🙏🏻🧡

Dude, your content is good. I don't speak for everyone here but I would like to say try to make content in either Hindi or English. I just find this 50-50 Hinglish khichdi off-putting
Very well researched and intriguing video. Wow ! How do you people get such novel ideas of representing languages so beautifully? Just one thing ! In Sanskrit ऋ, ष & ज्ञ (it's ज् + ञ & not ज्य) are very different in pronunciation. Please watch the Sanskrit Channel to clarify their pronunciation.
@wotermelon_ No there isn't. There are very few Indians here (comparative to the UK or the US), let alone Marathis. Growing up I had no Marathi friends and only a handful of Indians ones from all over like Gujju, Malyali, Kannada and Bengali. Anyways outside India people from different states don't really care about the difference and identify as Indian together. You have to absolutely be able to speak French to get around and do the most basic things. Culture-wise my parents say that it's very very different (I haven't experienced everyday life in India firsthand, so can't say). But the main thing is that people here aren't racist at all (mostly!) towards Indians compared to what you'd get in the UK or the US (I know these places don't have head-on proper discrimination, I'm talking about racial micro-aggressions and general attitude) Cannot emphasize enough on being able to speak French. I hope you do proper research before coming here.

19:30 A native Marathi speaker here. What a beautiful video. Just a small mistake. Dole (डोळे) is already plural. Dola (डोळा) is the singular form. There's no word as dolya 😅. Also 19:40 Marathi does use the respectful form for you - 'तुम्ही' You can't use 'तू' for elder people. It's highly disrespectful
"dolyanni jara nit bagha, haa desh attaa, kiti baddalla" You're right, Dola is singular, dole is plural but, dolya is also plural but when it is referred to as subject, I guess. Not a linguist. just a Marathi speaker. Don't know how to explain but I know we use "dolya" sometimes.
Singular is डोळा and plural is डोळे. If the words डोळा and डोळे are modified by using a vibhakti pratyay or preposition, then their root form changes. These new root forms don't exist on their own. Singular becomes डोळ्या(). Examples are डोळ्यात (in the eye), डोळ्यासमोर (in front of the eye), डोळ्याला (to the eye) etc. While plural becomes डोळ्यां(). Examples are डोळ्यांत (in the eyes), डोळ्यांसमोर (in front of the eyes), डोळ्यांना (to the eyes) etc.
The "respectful" form of the word differs by place and family. For example, in most parts of Maharashtra, "तू" is used to refer to all female relatives regardless of age. However elder male relatives are generally always referred to by the respectful form, "तुम्ही". Of course you can use the respectful form to refer to women too. It just isn't used by default for elder female relatives. Guess our patriarchy is obvious. However, I have seen "तू" being used more and more frequently in the cities to refer to elder male relatives, like "बाबा, तू कसा आहेस?". I wouldn't dream of saying "तू" to my father, lol.
İ am super excited to share this story. So my dad is a proper konkani Marathi and i grew up speaking marathi with him. But my mom is turkish so i speak turkish with her. The amount of words and cultural sounds that marathi and Turkish gets overlapped is unlimited and shocking. For example, Bagh means to see, both in marathi and turkish. There are many more, but i felt like to share this with y'all. Have a nice day.
Konkani/Malvani are on the sweeter side but the Marathi from the ghats and Pune side is a little harsh, sometimes if you conversate with a normal speaking adult on pune, he would sound a bit strict and harsh but as we know pune is a large city, you may find people speaking the Mumbai type Marathi, which is again on the sweeter side

You cannot get away from loving marathi culture. Same flows with the sweet-sour filled language, really a unique flavour of our incredible India. Love from Bengal
We lovingly call it Ambat-god (आंबट गोड) which basically means the same thing as sour and sweet but has a lot relevance in not just food or language or this combination is highly familiar to a maharashtrian
I am bengali, but once accidentally a Marathi movie appeared in my UA-cam feed, Sairaat, I watched that and fall in love with the language. Kept watching other movies and serials available on youtube. Now I can say that i can't speak or write but clearly understand Marathi. If bengali is sweet, marathi is chatpata like a chat. ❤❤
Sairat has a different accent of Marathi. I am also marathi, but I didn't even understand the accent which they have used. There are about 42 marathi dialects which use like kokani, malvani, ghaati, ahirani, aagri, varhadi and so on. I especially like aagri, malvani and varhadi.
The language of the Movie Sairaat is a village dialect of one of the Southern region of the Maharashtra, Solapur district. I am surprised you understood the difficult dialect and the accent. Standard version of Marathi (Shuddha Marathi) spoken by Upper Casts Marathi including Marathi Brahmins, is more closer to standard Hindi, with lots of Sanskrit words, Std Marathi is a gentle , simple and sober, speakers have different accent. You can try sentences on Google Translator.
@@SoulfoUniverse I am not a Marathi speaker but in contact with Marathi Speakers. I can speak Marathi which may not be of high level or fluently but it is good enough. I did not say Marathi is lexically and grammatically similar to Hindi. Since there are many common Sanskrit tatsam words and even Urdu words are common in both and many Verbs are similar or with some differences and some are different. I have noticed non- Marathi speakers like Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati and others can understand Marathi, if they are interested in learning and in contact with Marathi speakers for enough time, even they can pick up grammar and words and talk simple Marathi. Those who are not interested or not in a contact and willing to learn are out of question. There are many examples I know Non Marathi speakers, picked up Marathi very fast. Even from this video comments, one Bengali person from Bengal, understood the Marathi Movie named "Sairat' which was in some village dialect of Marathi Which I could not understand well, I was surprised. I know the Hindi was originated from Shaurseni Prakrit evolved through Khari Boli and Marathi from Maharastri Prakrit and evolved through Old Marathi over 1000s of years.
Listen to 'Sagara pran talamalal' song of Veer Savarkar ji, sung by Lata ji. That's a 100% pure Marathi language song. Nowadays, in movies, pure Marathi language is not used, it has become quite distorted. Btw, as you are a Bengali, let me tell you that Kishore Da (Bengali) had sung a superhit Marathi song, 'Ashwini ye na', you can listen to it. My favourite Marathi movie is 'Ashi Hi Banwa Banwi', a superhit classic comedy in Marathi cinema.
Although ౘ and ౙ are absent from modern Telugu alphabets, my mom made sure that I use them occasionally at least. I still use them for Chaapa (mat), jola (lullaby) etc. Now I feel good to be connected to Marathi and Prakrit through them. Thanks for the video, much love.

There is a unique Diwali culture with Marathi people which I had not found in any other Indian subcultures and that is "reading some literature" on the day of Diwali. These are called "Diwali Ank", Diwali edition Marathi literature magazines that celebrate novice, amateur and established writers works in the form of short stories, poems, and philosophical articles. They are published just a week before Diwali and many Maharashtrian families would buy them and on the day of Narak Chaturdashi and Lakshmi puja, Marathi folks would read it after the morning bath.
Great to know that.. Bengalis also have a historical and ongoing culture of publishing many Durga puja special magazines, which are bulkier and content heavy than it's regular counterparts. Those are called "Pujo Shankhaa". All the major publications for kids and adults publish pujo shankhaas well ahead of Puja season and are widely consumed by readers of all ages across the world till date and that culture is here to stay for generations!! So.. great to know Maharashtrian also share a similar culture for Diwali. Thanks to all these channels.. creates such an interesting platform for sharing our diverse cultures !!

As a Marathi speaker and a fan of this channel I love the amount of effort you have put into this video. As many have already pointed the mistake about डोळे I'd not repeat it but the rest of the video was perfect. I think the very existence of Maharashtra and Marathi proves that India is continuous spectrum of cultures rather then divided into separate north and south identities. Also the point about च, ज and झ - I personally support the use of nuqta to distinguish the distinct sounds. There does actually exist at least one Marathi text that does use the nuqta for this purpose. It was used in the Geetai (गीताई) by Vinoba Bhave which is a Marathi translation of the Bhagavad Gita though not every printed version may include it. The one I read had it that's why I know about it. Another slight pronunciation difference is that Marathi speakers tend to pronounce व like English W while Hindi speakers tend to pronounce it like English V. In Marathi we use व्ह for English V. For example - व्हॅटिकन, व्हिक्टोरिया, etc. Also similar to ऱ्य (rya) we also have ऱ्ह (rha) but it is much rarer. Also another fun fact: Just like other major Indian languages Marathi also had its own script called Modi (मोडी, not मोदी 😅). But it was discarded in favor of Devanagari for printing purposes and gradually fell out of use. I am trying to learn it though and wish it would be revived. Anyways thanks for this video one again. लाभले आम्हास भाग्य बोलतो मराठी जाहलो खरेच धन्य ऐकतो मराठी! ❤ Jai Hind Jai Maharashtra! 🇮🇳 Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Ki Jai! 🙏
We have soft ळ and hard ळ too. पळ has soft ळ खळखळ and कळकळ has hard ळ. Similarly गच्च आणि गच्ची ,कच्चं आणि कच्ची , words are similar but pronounced in different ways. New learners will have to learn about ज,झ,च by practice. We can't use nukt ,jer janar like arabic. It will be too formal and burdensome for marathi readers and printer. We pronounce hindi correctly so same is expected from other Indians. Our अं in खातं ,जातं is unique. Very similar to German language. Like Irma Grese is prounced as इर्मा ग्रेसं
Hi another native Marathi speaker here. Your reference about Modi script is sad but true that we lost it. My grandmother used to read literature in Modi script. It was in a way similar to gujrati as there was no line on the akshar or shabda.
@@brother-iu9qb I support the use of nuqta to make the pronunciation more consistent. Hindi also uses it for that purpose. For example - जान (jaan) and ज़िंदगी (zindagi). But I can understand why some would oppose it in order to maintain the purity of the language. However we have already adapted ॲ and ऑ for English sounds so I personally don't see a problem with using nuqta.
@@chinmayeebirulkar5234 Yes Modi script is somewhat similar to Gujarati. I don't personally know anybody who knows it. My great-grandfather apparently knew it but I never saw him so I don't know.

Any Konkani speaker would quietly listen to a Marathi guy speaking and understand what he/she is saying. Goes to show just how much related these 2 are.
You karwari bro? Never forget bro , Konkani was always a chad language originated in Goa , and these Mumbaikar and punekar tourist who often come to Goa heard our language and started to use it in thier language

The version of Marathi that’s prominently featured in mass culture is the Puneri version that’s really sweet and truly fun to speak bbc and hear too. But there are multiple flavours to Marathi as you travel across Maharashtra. Thank you for this, And please make a video on Konkani as well if you can.
Dude this is just amazing. I come from the most popular (..cough..accurate..cough..😂) Marathi speaking region-- Pune. I often felt that Marathi felt sharper than Hindi. It flows like a sinosidal curve but has sudden anomalities, but i never could explain this, happy to see, what i experienced has proper explanation in Linguistic Science. Kudos to you great video!!!
I appreciated this video as a Marathi speaker. Even though I am originally not from Maharashtra, I have been born and brought up in Maharashtra and have grown up to speak Marathi with a native fluency. As I speak Manglorean Konkani (Mangaluru, Karnataka) which is my mother tongue, it is very easy for me to think and speak in Marathi. जय हिन्द! जय महाराष्ट्र!

Marathi is one but the tone of speaking Marathi changes every 60 km in Maharashtra. Like Marathi of Pune sounds different and that of Kolhapur sounds different. And the interesting thing is that if a Marathi man goes to another district of Maharashtra, then it is easily understood from which district or which area he has come.😊

Every language has accent difference like UP people speak differntly than delhi and rajasthani people. And british speak different accent than Americans.

The Mahua Moitra who sponsors your videos, is she the expelled MP??
When I was younger I only spoke French and Marathi, and all my friends were quite intrigued by the language. Proud to be Marathi in France
But the main thing is that people here aren't racist at all (mostly!) towards Indians compared to what you'd get in the UK or the US (I know these places don't have head-on proper discrimination, I'm talking about racial micro-aggressions and general attitude)
Cannot emphasize enough on being able to speak French.

@@sumukhbhanushali95 ‘Dolya’ is both singular and plural…’mazhya davya dolyat kahitari gela’ is also used, along with the example you gave.
@@JK-no1fr yeah true

My favourite Marathi movie is 'Ashi Hi Banwa Banwi', a superhit classic comedy in Marathi cinema.

Wow 😲
this reading tradition is also practised in UP (specifically east)
my mother also insists me to read something on diwali
Yes. My grandma always had Diwali Ank and we all grandkids enjoyed that after eating Diwali Faraal!! (Sweets and savory snacks)
दिवाळी पहाट आणि दिवाळीचा फराळ सुध्दा
Great to know that.. Bengalis also have a historical and ongoing culture of publishing many Durga puja special magazines, which are bulkier and content heavy than it's regular counterparts. Those are called "Pujo Shankhaa". All the major publications for kids and adults publish pujo shankhaas well ahead of Puja season and are widely consumed by readers of all ages across the world till date and that culture is here to stay for generations!! So.. great to know Maharashtrian also share a similar culture for Diwali. Thanks to all these channels.. creates such an interesting platform for sharing our diverse cultures !!

Rangdepana is definitely not creepiness Marathi has a LOT of words which just can be translated as you said ashreesh it's the language of heroics the feel is more important than the meaning
Also another fun fact:
Just like other major Indian languages Marathi also had its own script called Modi (मोडी, not मोदी 😅). But it was discarded in favor of Devanagari for printing purposes and gradually fell out of use. I am trying to learn it though and wish it would be revived.
Anyways thanks for this video one again.

Another thing is the word ए and its form were used to be written like अे. I don’t know exactly which form of Marathi used it tho if its recent or old
@@chinmayeebirulkar5234 Yes Modi script is somewhat similar to Gujarati. I don't personally know anybody who knows it. My great-grandfather apparently knew it but I never saw him so I don't know.
