Great tutorial, thanks! Very helpful. Two small things I found: with a '99 UK 528i, the C pillars didn't have two bolts like yours, but two plastic clips deeper inside, but you still have to remove the light the same - I used the fork trim tool to pull the plastic pin holding the clip to the body out, rather than try to slide the trim off the clips. There wasn't a need to undo the seat belts, leave them in place, pull a little slack though, unfasten the parcel shelf as normal, and then feed the slack belts through and pull the parcel shelf out and down so you can rest it where the seat back would be - same net result, more lazy :)
informative step by step instructions. well done. Did anyone else want to give a thorough cleaning to everything from the seat belts to the wheel wells? Sound dampening under the seat and speaker replacement?
how long roughly would you estimate for all 4 corners? i might end up stripping the interior before going to take it to a ramp. Im renting a ramp for 4 hours to do a service and coilover install, however after seeing how intense this install is, i might be having to buy more time
I have a question the 2 retaining washers on the top and bottom of the rear strut mounts I can’t find those parts I would like to replace them can you help me out
I am in the process of installing on my 1997 540i and my front upper mount is different then the one in the video any idea on how I can get them to work. I already did the back came out great and don’t wanna have to take them out
If you're new to modifying cars, you'll need all of the basics. We recommend air tools as well to make things easier. The E39 is a tough and long install. Feel free to give us a call if you run into any questions.
BUT! In this model you can do it without air tools, but with only your hands. In most 10 yrs old cars you need to cut bolts to remove some suspension parts. I drive e39 almost 8 yrs. Never had any problems with relpacing some parts. No matter what.
Do you know what size pickle fork that you used? I'm going to be installing these coilovers on my e39 tomorrow, and I picked up a 3/4" pickle fork. JW if that's going to be large enough? thanks.
We haven't had the chance to fit test the 528i wagon but we believe that it's the same. If you do order and isn't the same, you can return it for a full refund. Let us know if you have any other questions or feel free to give us a call @ 801.365.1440.
Just wondering if anyone could help me, I’m installing some coilovers on my e39 and I can’t for the life of me get the bolt in the pinch mount out 😩 anyone got any tips or tricks?? Thanks 😄
Ewww, all that dirt under the rear seat!!...clearly thats never been removed before! Looks like theres a few $ of change under there too lol. Clearly BMW designed those rear struts to be as inaccessible as possible! The touring model isn't just as bad because you have to drop the rear subframe to get new springs in!! lol German engineering...
Well, to it's credit- the Germans really know how to compact everything into everything else and still make it work. But that says little when you're the one wrenching on it. How long do these coilover normally last? I saw the lifetime warranty- but at this price... it seems a little fishy. It would be great if you included torque values as well in your videos. How do you know where to set the pinch bolt? Does everything need to be tightened at ride height? And then is an alignment needed afterwards? Questions like this would go great in your videos.
Our lifetime guarantee covers any manufacturing defect or blown shock to the original purchaser, for life. If you ever do have a blown damper, call in with the part number on the side of the damper and we'll arrange to send you a replacement first. Once it is swapped, you'll just need to send in the claimed damper for testing. With regards to the torque values, I will pass along your recommendation to make mention of them but you can reference your stock manual for those values. Yes, everything will need to tightened and I'd recommend having an alignment done within a week of installing the coilovers.
@@racelandsuspension I dont really know how to explain this but when i fold the seats down i still have a piece of the seat on the far right and left side which prevents me from removing the parcel shelf, so my question is how do i remove those seats?
And this, this ladies and gentlemen is the reason why i haven't replaced my rear struts. thanks for that BMW.
Ps: Still love my e39 more than life.
Sal Ar should do it tbh. Not that difficult. Just takes a good amount of pb blaster 😂

Jesus, my rear struts would have to be completely GONE in order for me to even consider this lol. Just did my fronts yesterday.

Excellent how to vid btw. That music is super relaxing!
After this install I better be certified to work at bmw.
Right?!? lol
No, only after you have successfully changed the oil pan gasket with engine in place lol..
Very professional and clean tutorial.. thanks..
Thanks for the Video! I will be tackling this job soon!

If you do the interior work first, 4 hours may be fine. It is an intense install though :(.
Surely you have to test drive the car and adjust the coilovers in order to get the set up correct?
Correct. The springs will have a settling period then you'll make your final adjustments.
Very good explained. Thank you. :) Regards Bent from Norway.
the rear is very complicated
Yes it is. Thank you BMW! lol
is all of the rear steps necessary, i have just gotten a 2001 525i m sport? this seems like a ton of work
Unfortunately they are all necessary :(. This install is by far the most complicated that we've run.
Do you know if its just as bad with the E39s that have foldable rear seats?
I believe that the process is almost identical.
yep. the rear is the most involved I have ever seen.the fronts are a piece of cake compared to the rears....
it's simple and straight forward. just a bit time consuming.
I have a question the 2 retaining washers on the top and bottom of the rear strut mounts I can’t find those parts I would like to replace them can you help me out
Those are OEM parts that would come with the upper strut mounts.
I am in the process of installing on my 1997 540i and my front upper mount is different then the one in the video any idea on how I can get them to work. I already did the back came out great and don’t wanna have to take them out
Unfortunately, our kit won't fit the 540i. :(
well done guys ,my next upgrade!!
Just did this but put in Sachs Shocks and new coils.... and cleaned it up.
What are some of the tools i would need for this? I only got into cars not long ago and i want to install coilovers on my e39 soon
If you're new to modifying cars, you'll need all of the basics. We recommend air tools as well to make things easier. The E39 is a tough and long install. Feel free to give us a call if you run into any questions.
@@racelandsuspension thanks for the help
Wow, just Wow, Bmw.. really?? xD
Right?!? Most complicated install EVER! lol

Man I’m surprised no one is talking about how much of a pain reinstalling the fender liner is I’ve been trying to get it in for hours lol

Yep. 3/4" will work.
Can you adjust the height after it’s installed or do you have to take everything apart again?
Yeah, you can adjust them after they are installed.
What upper strut mount is in the video? I have a 540i sport and it is different.
Sorry. The 540 is different and our kit won't fit properly. Sorry :(
Hey Martin I’m goin threw them same issue how did you get around this?
damn thats alot of work for the rear lol. are the wagons the same complexity?
Unfortunately, we haven't had the chance to run fitment testing on the wagon so we wouldn't be able to confirm.
no, they're not. most wagon have air in the back otherwise they have seperate spring and damper
Where is the video for how to install e36 coilovers
We haven't done one yet but feel free to give us a call with any questions! Our number to call is 801.365.1440.
Does this go for e39 528i wagons too???? Plz asap thinking about buying soon real soon

its not the same for the wagon because is doesnt have struts in the rear, the wagon have a spring and a shockabsorber seperate.
Can you guys please do a 6th gen accord coil over install? :)
+iLLuSiOnZ915 We are working on it now. Sorry that we don't have it now.
+Raceland thank you so much, will be looking forward to it
Just wondering if anyone could help me, I’m installing some coilovers on my e39 and I can’t for the life of me get the bolt in the pinch mount out 😩 anyone got any tips or tricks?? Thanks 😄
Hammer it out with a screwdriver and hammer
You probably got it off by now, but heating the bolt with a torch helps.

I was hoping someone here would say...Actually, you don't have to remove the rear seat.
You dont if you dont have rearspeakers
I hate suspension work so much...
That car especially. It's a joke! lol

How do i make this with folding rear seats?
If it is a sedan, you can just fold the seat down but if it is the wagon, unfortunately this kit will not fit.
@@racelandsuspension I dont really know how to explain this but when i fold the seats down i still have a piece of the seat on the far right and left side which prevents me from removing the parcel shelf, so my question is how do i remove those seats?
you just pull them out@@hazu3271
Does this Fit a BMW e39 535i?
Yes. They will fit without any issues on the 535i.
BMW really fuck up rear shock mount.
Excellent video
do these coilovers work on the 540i or just 6 cylinder models?
Unfortunately, they won't fit the 540i. Your suspension shares the same upper mounts as the M5.
Raceland so raceland dont have coilovers for the 540i?
We don't. Sorry :(
that is one dirty car. I wan them coilovers though.
Anyone have these coilovers, how are they?
they arent too bad they have been holding up fine but they dont like to go all the way in, in the front. he makes it seem so much easier than it is
@@damieng4243 what did you end up doing to get them all the way in?
Perfect
And that’s why I’m going to pay someone to do it
Right?!?! Lol
What is the estimate time to do all for?
The install isn't challenging but there are a lot of steps. We estimate 6-8 hours.
Raceland mines getting installed as we speak
Let us know how you like them!
No wonder I got quoted 500 for installation lmao
Yup! lol
