That is an unreal property! And I am obsessed with that greenhouse! Also I never thought that someone would be paying taxes on the property to just let it sit until I read another comment. WILD!
Very sad to see this. Norman was a great guy. A gentle giant, who would give you the shirt off his back. A couple of times we sat on those stairs with a drink, or looking over the fields where that donkey protected the cows. You could often see Norm driving around town in his green land rover. Just so sad to see the property in this shape.
This is the first I have watched of your videos. You move too quickly with your camera. Cannot get a good look at anything as you move too fast. Slow down!
I live on the adjoining piece of property and am still good friends with Norman's daughters. I spent a lot of glorious days on the property, horse camps, swimming and helping Norman run the mill. It has hardly been touched by development but it will be happening...
Hi Heather, thanks for your insight! I must have been a beautiful place to see and spend time at in it's prime. Interested to follow it's story and see what happens to the property.
Here is one for you and you can google it , back in 1999 the Trader Vics restaurant that was located at The Bay Shore hotel in Vancouver was barged over from Vancouver to Saanich and is now been sitting for over 20 years. It’s a very cool looking building. I have google earthed it and found it’s location the only issue is that it’s on private land.
What isn't surprising about this video is the extent of degeneracy from infantile human beings. Such cognitive ineptitude and sheer illogical stupidity from those that maliciously create a greater appalling appearance and state of condition to these great although decaying structures. Interestingly, the building's design resembles Noah's Ark or at the very least, a double decker ship. It is also marked (Private Property) if you were ever caught, you would most likely be carried away and charged with trespassing. At the very least, warned of it.
@@dr.wernerbrandes2991 The family sold it while it was still in good shape. The first developer bought it for the lumber, let it go to ruin and then flipped it to the present developer.
Great vid. My daughter has been there because she lives near by. I need to check this one out for sure. We live on SSI. You need to check out the Haunted Butter church in Cowichan BaY. Cheers
Wow its really deteriorated! It was still being lived in when i was in elementary school (around 2007 range). I was friends with Lindas daughter at the time who was living there. The house used to be a 70s wet dream. So much shag, i have a lot of memories of running around it. They also had horses on the property then and we would go out to see them.
Wow, so cool you got to experience it in its prime! I can only imagine how amazing it was. The property is so cool. Too bad it’s been left to vandalism ☹️.
Memories, My childhood I grew up hear following Norman around like a puppy. The very best years of my life. Love to Debbie and Linda I hope life has treated you well.
@@DameUntamed .Never thought of it being a mansion. Just a large house. Not a home. Two kids raised by a single man. I lived there from 3 to 11. The property had more meaning to me.
hey weired where is that like maple mnt area never seen it or anything like it. especially the carport thing there that looks like a&w drive in when you would eat in vehicle . not to mention prob big chunk of land with great views. Thats why cant figure who let it go to shit or have someone buy it tear down and build new there weired
Yeah! Places like this left behind always make me wonder... how? Sad to see such a beautiful property go to waste, but a cool place to explore nonetheless.
@@DameUntamed have you come across any old photos of the place in its hayday? I’d be curious to know if Jim Shockey who owns and runs the Hand of Man museum out of the old Maple Bay elementary school would have any knowledge about it? He has lived in that area for a long time and would likely be someone who would know more about the history of the place than most. I’m tempted to go down and ask him!
This place used to be Stonehill Farm, it wasn't abandoned... it was sold and a large portion of the original property was developed. this was where my best friend lived growing up. this place was amazing

Right, same 😱 Like why??

Hi Peter, thanks for this insight. I can imagine it would be hard to see such a once beautiful place in ruin.

Appreciate the feedback. I’m not an experienced filmmaker so I’m doing my best 👍🏼.

This sounds pretty cool. I wonder if I could contact the land owners for permission to check it out!
@@DameUntamed that would be very cool if you could , I have driven by but you can’t see it from the road I will get the address and send it to you
739 Newton Cross Rd Saanich, if you google earth it you will be able to see it on the property
You are a natural at this. May our travel channels cross paths one day. 😎😎👍👍
Very much appreciate this comment. Hope we do cross paths! :)
Duncan seems like a place to be. I saw you dance, for me thats says everything. Good video.
Haha, thanks for stopping by!
Like the content except for the horrible music!
Haha, thanks for the feedback! I like it... guess everyone has their taste 😜

It's really too bad people vandalize, I agree. Would have been so much better to see this place without all of the offensive words and pictures.
boggles my mind that someone has the $$$ to pay taxes on a place like that and let it sit.
Right?! Like, HOW? 😂

Is this place hard to find? Long walk from a road ?
hey Dame have you given up on the channel
Haven’t given up! Just took a hiatus. Hope to be back soon with fresh videos of recent travels ☺️
Love to go here to pick grapes ♡ always dreamed of living there
Grapes grow there?! Amazing. Will have to go back and forage.

I’ll add it to my list, thanks !!
A little cringey

It's true. Too bad about the vandalism. I wish people didn't to that, but I did still enjoy exploring it!

Abandoned BC ferry on mainland !
I've always wanted to check out the abandoned BC ferry, but apparently it's pretty tough to access :(
Rode through there the other day, crazy property

@@DameUntamed makes no sence does it with that view and everything just doesnt make sence
It needs to be restored to its original beauty
Hi Logan, I agree. What a beauty this property would be 😍
What happened why was this place left like this
Just trashed over time by people who don't care :(
I loved the man. But the idea of trying to give the shirt off his back brought a smile to my face.
Sounds like a good guy!
He showed me how to drink from a hose, eat fresh water crest from the stream, and how to share salt licks with the animals.
Live in Bowser - would like to see where it is on map - can you advise?
Park at the end of Donnay Drive, in Duncan. Coordinates for google maps are: 48°47'27.6"N 123°39'12.5"W. Enjoy!
spent an evening years back
Cool!
I lived in Duncan 45 years never seen this property
I guess it’s a bit of a hidden secret!
Don't for get the saw mill.and horse stables
Dang, I missed those parts! Will have to go back 😊.
It's so sad that this was vandalized so heavily. It was still a cool explore, though. Thanks for the video.
Sad for sure. The property must have been stunning in it's day!
Unfortunately absolutely no upkeep is the real issue.
Is it allowed to fly a drone over this area?
Yep! Just careful to keep away from people and respect the altitude limitations.
So sad to see such an incredible place left to rot.
Agreed! It must have been absolutely stunning in it's prime.

The town of Duncan on Vancouver Island! I try not to give out exact locations in order to protect these areas 😊.
@@DameUntamed but you gave GPS coordinates in a previous comment! Never give out spot info online. It’s urb ex code.
