A very eye-opening review, Kathi. I actually have to thank you for putting a lot of things in this book under a different spotlight that i wouldn't have caught on otherwise (most likely due to me not reading a lot of fantasy books). I personally enjoyed the book and will at least give the 2nd book a chance. One thing I want to specifically point out is the maxims at each chapter start; I do not have any background in law and therefore their origin flew completely over my head. Thanks for the review!
Oh dear, and you bought all 3 - not good! I'm such a newbie to fantasy and have so many series that I want to continue by Hobb, McCaffrey, Sullivan, Butcher and Pratchett that Swan will now be way down in my PoP. And I am loving Red Sister so the rest of the book of the ancestor series is going on my TBR!! Thank you for the review. Take care and enjoy your reads!!
I agree with you 💯 Nonetheless, I enjoyed our buddy read together and thanks for reading with me! I think I will continue with book 2 just to see if it does get better
Hi Kathy I just couldn't finish this book, I tried three times and just gave up. The reasons you pointed out were the same for me. Shame as I was looking forward to reading this one.
I actually liked the first one, looking at it as a fantasy Sherlock kind of story, with the Watson character who narrates being Helena. But each sequel became progressively more disappointing, becoming more cliche and messy. Their relationship throughout never worked well for me.
Hi Matt! If Helena hadn’t irritated me so much I too might have enjoyed the mystery aspect. And she is much more irritating than Watson. I’m considering at least starting the 2nd book since I own it. Just to see if I can like it. However, you have convinced me to push it back down on my read list. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts.
I didn't finish this one. The VP character was too annoying. I just couldn't buy into her. A medieval setting where she acts like a modern horny teenager. Other people seem to like it so I thought it must just be me

Thank you so much for your kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed the review and that you enjoyed the book though I may not have loved it.

I've been wanting to read Red Sister for ages, and I bought all those as well. 😂 Hope I love them.

I loved doing the buddy read with you. ❤ I think I will also try the 2nd at some point.

I nearly DNF’d it as well. Yes I too am disappointed that I didn’t enjoy it. Thank you for sharing Sharon.

No not just you, I didn't finish the book either. I was bored most of the time.
I considered DNF’g it but I wanted to know how it ended. Glad it wasn’t only me who didn’t like Helena.
Same.
Good review. Definitely tells me this series isn’t for me. I would find the same things irritating.
Thank you. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea obviously.
Yeah, this was unfortunately a disappointing series for me as well. I decided not to continue the series after I liked book 2 even less.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who didn't enjoy it. I still might try book 2 at some point. Thank you so much for watching. 😍
I've been watching a lot of your past videos recently. Really enjoy your channel and the way you talk about books. You got a new follower with me. 🙂
@Coleton2573 Thank you so much for the kind words.
