Thanks for the video. Great tips and learning experience You did way more steps than necessary tho.... I did it along with you and managed to get a more realistic look with fewer steps. But your guidance was essential.
Thanks a lot for all your useful tutorials !! I made a trial with another filter (got the name in french, but should be something like filters->map->move with map), where you use a black/white version of the face with the desired contrast. It gives better result, the flag following skin shapes in a more realistic way...
I ran into a problem: I can't select anything more when I applied Layer Mask (Floating Selection blocked me from other layers), so I can't select Mask to Selection option. Give me tips on how to fix these errors, and should I start over or install the new version of the app which is better?
Got there in the end, some terminology was hard to follow (3:45)ended up having to scale and move the flag image as it comes in twice the size of the main image, but he does go over that, so in the end, all is well.
noone can do it better than davies media design, and thats just proven when i scroll to the alternative face paint gimp tutorials. theres like a dozen or so Davies Media ripoff tutorials With worse attempts at putting the exact same american flag onto a face, some of the thumbnails even use the same guy!! If you pay attention to the logo (flag) that these guys are layering onto the face, they dont warp the shape, but most dazzling to me is some dont even bother to change the blend mode from NORMAL MODE which is why it literally looks like someone chucked a transparent photo over some guys face in photoshop or gimp, like i thought blending modes were assumed knowledge for "A person creating an educational channel on compositing images" but apparently not. i mean i feel kinda gross seeing these copycats blatantly stealing 99% of the same video from someone like davies who is actually putting effort into their content, i think i wanna vomit To be clear, this is the better tutorial. My only critique on your video Davies is I do wish i could have combined my image without getting as much high contrast in the end result (my face image is already high contrast) but you still did a good job, this looks pretty realistic and i think you made a lot of clever decisions in your compositing of the flag onto the face. I hope your channel doesnt get drowned out by these other cheap videos
Always glad to see someone doing a Gimp tutorial!
What did the B&W layer do?
Just to be able to see where the flag texture was going to go?
I really like your tutorials and the manner in which you explain what you are doing.
Thank you!
Blurring the displacement map(desaturated part of image) before applying displace filter is very useful. It helps to warp things in a good way.
You pulled off a minor miracle with this one, Mike. Genius. Thank you.
Thank you!
Thanks again, Michael. Brilliant. Clinical. Topnotch. You are truly the dude!
Thanks Neil!
Had so much fun doing my own version on my selfie. Thank you Mike for another quality tutorial. May thanks from england
Great tutorial! This can be very useful! Thanks!
Can you PLEASE do the last few minutes slower / more in depth?
The parts about the modes (grain merge and burn) are the most important steps.
You are welcome to use the video controls on the video, which allow you to speed up or slow down video playback.
@@DaviesMediaDesign not the point, ty

grain merge!! gotta look into that.
Thanks for sharing. This is super cool. I am pretty new to gimp, but I am willing to give this process a shot soon.
Thanks for watching - glad you liked it.

Very cool. Since I body paint, this could come in handy for me. ~Panzik Artistry
Great skills
I tried everything you did step by step from a Mac though and I failed. Once the burn went on it looked separated..i'll try again
Nice!
Great!!! I loved!

the english name of the filter seems to be filters->map->displace
When i get to the displacement it shows nothing it dont show the flag or the man that we did in layers is there something i missing
Thank youu
Wow you can have the tool, but its the experience that counts. - Impressive!
Thanks!
thank you so much

Gr8 love ur tuts
i feel like this could also be done with a displacement map ???

Glad to hear you were able to get the final result you were looking forward. Thanks for the feedback as well.
going to try it with the Canadian flag
