    Biggest pro for the Fractal is the presets are usable, more so than any other unit.

    Looking forward to seeing your journey with the FM9. I have the FM3 and I love it. With the extra footswitches you could use them as effects on/off switches to make it feel even more like a pedalboard, but I'm sure you'll uncover all the foot switching possibilities soon.

    I've got an AxeFx III and love it. I hate to admit it but it's really replaced all my pedals and most of them are really high end. The quality and reliability is without question much better. You don't have to worry about cables and power supplies. There is so much you can do with the units that it's crazy. I do use Axe-Edit and rarely use the front panel to change things. If I ever start gigging again I'm going to get an FM9.

      @@user-zv7lm8uk7h The pedals will remain nameless because I don't want to cause any rifts. It hasn't replaced any of my amps. I got rid of my tube amps when Quilter went in to business about 9 years ago and I played though one. What I do is run my Axe into the front end of the Quilters.I tried the 4 cable method and I didn't care for it. I do use the amp and cab modeling. I think of it more as a different type of EQ in this instance. Quilters take pedals and modelers really well, something that most tube amps don't do. When Pat Quilter designed his amps he made sure of that. A lot of people don't know that Pat is the 'Q' in QSC. Before he started making sound reinforcement equipment he built tube amps for many years. There's still a few of them floating around. After he retired from QSC (he still has controlling interest in the company) he decided to go back to building guitar and bass amps.

    I went over to Fractal when they first introduced the std 2010ish sold all my stereo rack gear and have never looked back! Had the Axe Fx 2 and now on the Axe Fx 3 with two CLR powered cab and the FC12. I play it live and record with its, so consistent and reliable.
    It does take a little time to get your head around all the options but it’s so worth that investment. I rarely use the front panel and only use the Axe Edit. For live I’ve put all the essential controls on a tab so you can get to level, reverb mix etc quickly but that’s what a rehearsal is for! Most gigs I use one preset and switch between scenes and the effects (stomp box mode)
    I do hope you enjoy the wealth of classic and unobtainable amps as well as world class FX!

      Andrew, Levi and all, I have an AXE FX II XL and I don't get that inspired to use it (home studio mainly).
      I almost always end up on my Neural plugins.
      Do you think that upgrading to an AXE FX 3/FM9 might have that extra something? (I know you would only be surmising here ;-))
      P.S. Sounds fantastic here. Maybe it's my setup (tho the plugins sound great). AXE FX 2 => 18i20 => Reaper => Presonus S-8 speakers

    The Fractal stuff is killer, as is the Neural Quad Cortex, and the Kemper Profiler. I've got a Kemper, I love it.
    The biggest advantage of all of those digital units is how close you can get to the original sounds of things they're emulating, and being able to change entire rigs with the push of a button. They offer unmatchable versatility, they're reliable, and a huge space and weight saving piece of gear.

    Hey Levi... I heard plenty of usable sounds... My only experience with these machines is many years ago working at a music (instrument) store... I know digital modding has come a long way since then... In the end, it's all about what works for you. I knew a jazz cat in Raleigh who gigged all over town using a Zoom 505 - and he always sounded great!

    • @taylormesa
      @taylormesa Рік тому +2

      @@user-zv7lm8uk7h I do prefer ToneX and pedals. In my experience the captures (I use exclusively ToneJunkie captures) have a better tone and more importantly, feel to them. They also clean up better with volume roll off. I’m using the ToneX with the new H90 for fx and Browne Protein for drives. A simple board, but covers everything I need. Downside is there are no dual amps (unless you buy two ToneX pedals) which doesn’t bother me. Also ToneX is still developing, so it may be more difficult to find quality captures of particular amps you may be looking for. Another big part of leaving Fractal was the UI… I just don’t like all the page jumping and scrolling, and don’t want to have to use my laptop to build/modify patches. YMMV 👍

    I have alweays thought Fractal Audio had great sounds, but, having only experience with lots of ARTs, DigiTechs, Korgs, and PODs digital technology, I could never get a feel that made me want to continue playing. I had good sounds, but wasn't anywhere close to amp-like. Only using the preamps with tubes and a real tube power amp made it feel right. When you get all that weight, might as well stick with a Fender, or Mesa/Boogie.

      oh cool! look! It's one of those guys who thinks he knows what "digital" sounds like.... despite the fact that, time and time again, they can NEVER reliably pick out modelling amps in blind A/B tests. And that's before you consider that EVERY amp they listen to (unless they're in a room with it) has been through analogue to digital conversion to turn it into a video/something can can be distributed.
