What are Splitters? What are Taps? What is the difference between Splitters and Taps? What do Splitters do? What do Taps do? Can I use more then one Splitter?
Splitters and Taps come in many variations and often look the same. The main difference is, Splitters will send the incoming single through each output port evenly; while a Tap applies different amounts of loss to individual output port. This allows for the same amount of signal to reach the Antenna on a longer run of Cable verses a shorter run of Cable.
Splitters are used is Signal Distribution Systems to Split the Amplified Signal with little signal loss. It sends equal amounts of signal to the Antennas in areas of the same size. When using a Splitter you want the Cable runs coming out of the Splitter to be, more or less, the same. You do not want one run to be much longer or shorter then the others.
When signal passes through a Cable the signal weakens the further it travels. When the Signal reaches a Splitter, it splits off and travels down the separate runs of Cable. Splitters and Taps inevitably introduce loss.
If all the Cable Runs in your System are the same length, then the Splitter will distribute the Signal equally to each Antenna and will cover the same amount of area. If one Cable Run is shorter however, it will still get the same amount of Signal as the others, but with less Signal Loss. That means it will rob the other Cable Runs of Signal, outputting more Signal from the Antenna.
This is where a Tap comes into play. A Tap will apply a specific amount of loss to the shorter Run of Cable. Allowing for more Signal through to the longer Run of Cable with minimal Signal Loss, thus allowing for equal amounts of Signal to be emitted from the Antennas. You can also Daisy Chain Taps to repeat this process, as long as there is enough Signal.

Quick, accurate and concise, ergo, great video. Many years ago there was a distinction between two models of splitters; some worked well but a more powerful one could be used to power 4 or 5 TVs, etc. I'm guessing that "added power" splitter is no longer in production, maybe due to "Taps" which I've never heard of since watching this? Thanks.

I have a 6GHz dummy load. How can I get a proportional sample into the TinySA from the transmission line to get an accurate power measurement?

The splitter box (I have the old one) it has one “in” and 4 “out”. The in opening opening is for cable or antenna. The 4 out opening’s are in case I want to duplicate in TV #1 to TVs 2-4. Accessory units such as DVD, speakers, sound bar, (hopefully you have converted to wireless/Bluetooth speakers) Video games will go directly into TV 1.

SO do you typically put a splitter before connecting a single antenna? Just a question.

Does the signal pass backward the splitter or tap?
Like: if I modulate an DVR circuit to the antena, if I put the signal before a spliter, will it pass through it and reach the other rooms and etc?
