I have three pots of carrots on the go and will get another one done this weekend I think. Loving your bed lid 😊
I do pots over winter I tried summer time but they dry out so quick
There's the wind that can being carrot root fly into your carrot bed but also I would assume carrot root flies can also walk once they are close to the bed. I bet they can easily walk up two feet of raised bed and get in to where the carrots are.
2 litre pop bottles. Cut off the top section. Drill holes in the bottom. Sink into end of raise bed to try and maintain heat and moisture. Last year I did half "Starts" from the garden centre which went down about 2 inch the stretched out. The other half where 2 seeds in each bottle, did mean to remove the weakest seedling but never got round to it. Ended up with 2 perfect carrots in each bottle. I have 36 bottles so this year I am planting 2 seeds in each bottle again but doing 4 bottles each weekend so hopefully I will get 9 weeks worth of carrots...
I'm trying a slight different way but similar, I got a pint plastic cup cut the bottom off. And then filled with soil
Sounds like a good technique.
Did you find the compost in the bottles dried out quickly or was it easy to keep on top of?👍🌱👍
@@marksallotmentplot Very easy. I do struggle getting in to the rhythm of regular watering and a couple of health issues did cause a couple of spells where I didn't get out watering. Think digging a trench so the bottom half of the bottles where buried helped to regulate the temperature. Other option was it was luck as the first year of doing them like this so ask again after this years harvest :)
@@marksallotmentplot it dried out pretty quickly, I was copying a you tuber called (allotment gardening on a budget) he put bottles over his carrots as well, so might try that and see if it helps
I have started broadcasting seeds the same way you get more produce and coverage stops a lot of weeds definitely works.
Must admit first time I tried it I was a little sceptical and thought it'll never work.
Pleased to say I was wrong and think the broadcast method is deffo the way forward!👍🌱👍
🌱👍 have carrots in buckets on the go, hoping I can actually get some kind of harvest this year 🤞
Hope the carrots work out well for you in the buckets.
If I've got any spare left over after all the spuds are out think I'll get them planted up with some carrots 👍🌱👍
Hi Mark, im going to grow mine in 30L buckets, tried it last year & my carrots were perfect 😊 great video on how you see carrot seeds with recommendations, too. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊
Hi Christine, think I'm going to get some planted up in the buckets as well if there's some spare after all the potatoes are out.
That reminds me I must get the last of them done this weekend 👍🌱👍
Sowing more this weekend Mark! In pots I think but love a wonky donkey too 😂
No matter how hard I try I always end up with a few wonky donkey ones as well 😂
If I've got some buckets left over from the spuds think I'll sow carrots in them to see how they go 👍🌱👍
@@marksallotmentplot no harm in trying is it 👏🏽🥕
Good luck 🌱👏🏽
I found insect net bags with a draw string that fit over 30L buckets, buying 20 worked out at £3 each, took a bit of ebay mining to find them at that price but they are on there, via the slow boat. I do maincrop after the first earlies come out of the tubs, worked a charm last yr.
That's a great idea to use the insect bags on top of the 30L buckets. £3 each isn't too bad at all either 👍🌱👍
Smashing it again mate 👍
Thanks 👍🌱👍
Quality content as always. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks John 👍🌱👍
My carrot bed is 4 pallet collars high and find it just about the right height.
I grow Stromboli similar to Sweet candle but not as sweet.
🥕🥕🥕🥕🥕
Never tried Stromboli before Rob.
Every year I say I'm not going to by more seeds but here's another one I need to try now 😂😂😂
@@marksallotmentplot I get them from Moles seeds
We think they’re great 👍
Formidable vidéo bravo 😊
A bientôt
merci beaucoup 👍🌱👍

I’m planning on this, just getting my bed set up so perfect timing. Would I be able to use coir or do you suggest compost? Is there a difference btn the type of sand too? Thanks Mark 🎉
Hi Vanessa, I'd avoid coir for carrots tbh.
Any decent peat free compost should do the trick but I'd deffo recommend you sieve or mill it before it goes in the bed. There's so many lumps and bumps in compost these days that will cause problems with carrots growing straight.
On the sand front sharp sand is the go to for mixing in with compost 👍🌱👍. Most places like B&M or a B&Q will sell it pretty cheaply.
@@marksallotmentplot thanks Mark, just managed to buy a few bags from Homebase with their 15% off

Thanks Luc 👍🌱👍
I do love a carrot 😊 have you combated the bunnies?
I'm hoping I've seen the end of the bunnies for now 🐰
I've had the sweet peas out for a couple of weeks and they haven't been nibbled at all which is a good sign.
Need to get the trail cam setup again just to make sure 👍🌱👍
@@marksallotmentplot fingers crossed! We’re battling a muntjac right now!
