Thank you so much for considering this, it really does mean a lot to me.
Hi Mark, you are so right about the weather & struggles with our plant growing too. I've never experienced this before, sane as the rest of us too. Your garlic isn't too bad and at least you can use it too. Mine is,all chopped up and in ice cube trays. I get rust every year, but I still grow it. Great video. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊
Very nice information thanks
Hi Mark. In the same club unfortunately. At least I didnt fork out for expensive bulbs (mines supermarket bought). Fortunately mine split. It was just a trashy winter. Your onions are looking fab though. Elaine 🌱
I have been growing Czechmate for about 4 years and save cloves to replant. Have had amazing harvests every year, this year slightly smaller but still bigger than supermarket stuff. Jo Devon 🙂
Hi Mark my garlic was good this year but the onions was a wipe out ,
Think everyone is in the same boat this year with the garlic, did you have any of your cloves sprouting as over 50% of ours did that before we took them up.
Hi Mark, my garlic and onions were the same, can’t even say they are pathetic , if there another adjective to describe some worse than pathetic, I would have used that. However my shallot harvest was fantastic. At least I have that good news on allium front
I agree growing conditions. I get mine from the garlic farm-solent wight and I always get a good crop, not this year, it was pathetic!
Gave up on the garlic, tried many varieties. Only grow elephant garlic now, always get good crops.
My allotment is in South West Hertfordshire on the edge of the Chilterns and this has been a poor year for my garlic. It was planted in mid October 2024 and the dreadful weather this year resulted in poor growth and rust on the leaves has been the worst in my twenty one years growing Garlic.
Think I started my garlic off at around the same time as yours Mike.
Here's hoping next years crop is a lot better and the weather is a little more normal 👍🌱👍
I grew Czech Mate garlic three years ago and the crop was amazing. I have saved some and resowed each year since. The crop this year wasn’t great. I also tried Carcasonne this time and they didn’t even germinate. Not a good year for garlic all round I would say. My cucumbers are pants but my onions are doing well. Maybe we will get an Indian Summer and have a lovely sept 🥴
First time growing garlic for me, zone 8b in Washington state, US. It was a crazy wet spring here and my garlic all look about the same Mark. I agree on the weather, but like I said, rookie here so I don’t know. I’m trying not to lose faith. 🤣
I’ll try again next year.
Just pulled my Kingsland garlic and same as you pitiful, we had ours in buckets at home, but onions at Plot 82 are looking good....😃
Been a bad year for the garlic Graham, thankfully the onions are on track.
There's always next year for the garlic I guess. Us allotmenteers are ever the optimists 👍🌱👍
Disappointed with the garlic I pulled up week. Really small compared to last year.
All my garlic from the IOW were the same. Some didn't even germinate. I'm hoping its the weather and not the bulbs.
Mine were exactly the same Mark 🥺 but 2 supermarket cloves were alot better???? Maybe all the preservatives 😂 ordered from isle of wight last month so 🤞 for next year 😊,🧄
At least youve not got allium leaf miner. Thats a bugger! Ive had it last two years. Garlic and leeks affected. I had to burn all my leeks!
My missus told me my garlic mistake was putting it in the ground. She says Tesco has a reliable crop everyday and you put it in a basket for a perfect outcome. But where is the fun in that?
I had similar results. I figured it was because it's my first time growing garlic, but it seems I'm not alone lol. I had maybe 2 turn out average sized, the rest are tiny and pathetic.
Fantastisch Good work Mark you the best te moostiun te oogsten te planting thans te video Top week 🙏⛅🥒🌻🌰🧤
Cheers Luc 👍🌱👍
Mine came out the same
I don't feel too bad with my first growing of Garlic when I see yours, mine were pitiful, however they were tasty. My daughter calls them baby garlic and loves them.
Some you win, some you lose 😊
Hoping it'll be tasty, and I guess there's always next year 👍🌱👍
Better small than none at all! Great oions, raspberries and cucumbers. I grew burpless this year, hoping, tht at long lst i might be able to et cucumber once again. Alas no_ I am still reacting to them. I had one slice last week and I was fine, so this week I ate 4 slices. Noooo! I was ill for 4 days, only just better today so I guess that I can never eat cucumber again. I love salad but can't really eat much but lettuce and raw beetroot now, and a lice or 2 of tomato, providing I remeove all the seeds. makes me so frustrated! Hey ho, that's life. Happy gardening 🙂
Sorry Mark I bought czeckmate from dt brown 4 yrs ago n still using them as seed ever since n hey am not sticking up for dt brown I binned them 2 yrs ago as there seeds are shite. Gd luk mate.
Fantastisch Good work mark🥔🥒🌤✌️🧤🌻🧅🧄thans te video Top week fried
Thanks Luc 👍🌱👍
Hiya, Mark, try Globo from seed, you wont be disappointed!
Just when I thought I had enough seeds 😂
Globo added to the list 👍🌱👍
My garlic was terrible. Worst rust ever plus allium leaf miner got through the nets 😢
Seems to have been a bad year in a lot of places for garlic this time round.
Guess there's always next year 👍🌱👍
I thought you weren't supposed to harvest garlic until a month after the scapes appear (and are removed)?
In the UK I have always tied to sow on the shortage day and harvest on the longest day. An old gardeners tale I stick to.
🧄 🥖Garlic bread is good 😋😁
Happy onion growing🧅👍👍👍👍👍
I might just have to make some garlic bread. Will have to be small slices though 😂😂😂
There's always next year 👍🌱👍
