  • A satirical look at the British way of life. The song was written by Brendan Behan for his play - The Hostage. The song was first recorded by his brother Dominic Behan but the definitive recording is probably The Dubliners recording from their album Revolution. This video features Ronnie Drew on vocals and was filmed in 1979.

    Outstanding amazing talented gentlemen singers, songwriters, and musicians. Real treat for St Patrick's Day. I could listen to the Dubliners every day or night. I am a mature lady. All various music, especially Irish older and young generation helps me with my mental health and emotional well-being issues. 0:40 ❤ from my hometown Derry Northern Ireland 🇮🇪 x ⚘️🌈🌎👏🙏

    Again a very awesome raw footage of Ronnie Drew. I saw it on a Facebookpage earlier together with 'The Town I Toved so Well. With that one to and mandolin piece, we have all the songs available of that part of the concert (first part is lost, I heard). 😢
    Was there no speaking available before the song?
    We want more! 😊

    Why does it say 'featuring Ronnie Drew' ? Ronnie *was* a member of The Dubliners !

    • @Mortimer50145
      @Mortimer50145 Місяць тому

      Maybe it was simply meaning that of all the Dubliners, he was the only one to sing on this song - no passing of the solo from one band member to another for each verse, and no chorus.

    Daft question. Did Brendan Behan write the melody as well as the words, or does it use an older melody? I'm asking because the title music (written by Carl Davis) of the 1970s WWII documentary series "The World at War" uses a very similar theme. Who copied from whom?

    Is that Luke Kelly on the right, with the banjo? It must have been recorded 40 years ago, then! May they all rest in peace and John Sheahan be in good health!

      Yes it is Luke. It was filmed in 1979.
