I just need to say THANK YOU! I looked at the cryptic installation papers that came with my Redshift products and just saw question marks, and hoped for some sort of video tutorial. But this is one of the best-explained tutorials I have ever seen! I also really love your comments about what 1.5-2.5Nm feels like, that’s so easy to understand and useful! 🙌
I just fitted one to my steel-framed Trek 520 touring bike. The difference is astonishing. Prior to fitting the bike would give me huge hand and shoulder pains. It was so bad I thought my teeth were going to fall out on some road trips. Very unenjoyable. After fitting the bike is an absolute joy. It has basically erased fatigue. Cannot recommend it highly enough
I have Multiple Sclerosis and this stem is game changer for me. My nerves don’t take such a beating anymore!!!!!!!

I just installed the shock stop stem using this video. The only tricky bit was reinstalling the preload wedge as it took some force to get the screw aligned. Other than that: the stem combined with the seat post from Redshift are brilliant.

I just installed my Shockstop Stem on my Priority 600 and it’s excellent. This thing really works, it takes the trail chatter out of the bars and is so much more comfortable and smooth, it really is excellent. I decided to install the elastomers for one weight class higher than me as I didn’t want too much movement in the bars and I like how the bike feels. The elastomers should get a bit softer after a few rides and I may re-adjust depending on if they get too soft. Follows the instructions, watch the video and go ride.

Just received mine today, getting ready to set it up. Instead of a beautiful box mine was in a plastic bag that allowed it to get some minor scratches but I get that that's a first world problem. Hoping this thing is as good as it looks.

I was taught NOT to use a torque wrench as a ratchet. I use a "T" style allen wrench.
Next purchase for my off road touring bike... question ? do you get all elastomers ( for all settings) unlike my G4 LT seapost as that adds extra expense !
Yes! You receive all 5 elastomers (2 pre-installed in the stem, and 3 more in the box) to allow you to customize the suspension feel to your liking.
I just got the new ShockStop stem and it has the new install and removal tool for the rubber elastomers. Do you have a video for the use of that?

I bought this and just now saw the warning about swept back bars. I have a Kona HAND Plant cruiser bars on my ebike which have a mild sweep. Would this be compatible with those bars? I really love the seatpost and want this to work so bad!
Hi Benjamin, sorry that it wasn't more clear about the Shockstop not working as well with swept-back bars. That being said, it does depend a lot on the length of stem you purchased and the amount of sweep in the bars. Hi, just fitted the stem following this excellent video. But I switched elastomers and when I put the preloaded back in it has moved the elastomer from the vertical position, is this normal?
Thanks for reaching out! I believe we just responded to your recent email with a few images. That should answer your question but essentially it is perfectly normal to see elastomers 'deform' as you are installing the preload wedge. Let us know if you haven't received our email response. Is there an elastomer #1 and #2 position.....I mean, does it matter if #1 is installed on left or right ?
Not an engineer and just installed mine but: probably not. Orientation and position for both is crucial, which is where doesn’t matter.
@p0ddie this is confusing as the instructions refer to elastomer 1 and 2 with different combinations, eg 70/60 1 and 2 combination for lighter riders than 80/50 1 and 2 combination for heavier riders.. but the totals are the same, so surely knowing what is position 1 and 2 is critical?
Same question, noticed in video he installed higher numbered elastomer on the left side when looking into the stem from in front of the bike, so I guess I'll try that way just in case it matters.

I have a question about the stem, how well does it with suspension forks on my hybrid.
Hi Zeeb - the stem and post will work well on a bike that has a suspension fork. For the stem in particular, it is pretty complimentary if you set it up to deal with the high frequency wide of things. Obviously, the travel is very small compared to a typical suspension fork but it will add to the overall suspension feel of the bike. Thanks

I just installed this stem and suspension work fine. But I found another problem, my flat bar shake right and left, I've tightened the pivot bolt but still no change. What should I do? Thanks

Is this stem compatible with the giant hydrolic brake stem system, what are the spaces between the bolts
Hi Andrew - Unfortunately, the Giant Conduct stem faceplate has a different bolt pattern than the ShockStop Stem. The conduct faceplate has bolts that are 40mm apart vertically and 22mm apart horizontally whereas the ShockStop has the bolts 32mm apart horizontally. So, the conduct faceplate will not mount to the ShockStop stem - but we have had a few customers who have opted to remove the conduct faceplate and have the brakes changed at their local bike shop. So, if you really do want the stem this is a possibility and you can talk with your bike shop to see what it will entail. Thanks!

Many many Brompton riders are suffering from wrist pain.
I think it is not difficult.
Modification of connection between column of brompton and suspension system is enough, considering length and position for folding.
Bromptons don't have stems so I don't see how this would be possible. The bend in the handlebar serves to flex a little bit. I find the P-bars to have the most flex followed by the M. Try changing to Ergon grips with the wing if you don't have them already.

The stems come in two different lenghts 80 and 100 mm, each of them can be used in two positive positions +6 degree and + 30 degree (negatives are not for me). Is there any difference in effectiveness between +6 and +30 degree?
Hi @Marke-bv6lf - the stem actually comes in a number of lengths/angles: we have the +/-6 deg which is setup to default to +6 and that comes in 80, 90, 100, 110, and 120mm and then the +30 deg comes in the 80 and 100mm lengths. The +6 versus the +30 is only a matter of how you want your handlebar setup and the stem is just as effective in both orientations. What torque wrench are you using?
I believe we used a Tekton Torque wrench but any high quality torque wrench will work. Thanks for the interest!
How durable are the elastomers? Does it make sense to purchase an auxiliary set with the stem?
Hi @Marek-bv6lf - the elastomers are super durable. You do not need to get any spares. In fact, I think the only elastomers we have replaced are ones that get misplaced. The stem is designed such that it never compresses the elastomers beyond a safe level and the material we use is very robust and holds up really well. We have many many riders who are using the same elastomers since 2016. Thanks
His instructions regarding that the top of stem should be 2-3 mm above top of steerer tube seems inconsistent with written instructions that “the top headset spacer (or top of the stem if all spacers are positioned below the stem) is slightly above the type of the steerer tube.” My steerer tube is slightly higher than top of steerer tube, but I have two spacers between stem and top tube cap for a 2-3 mm space between cap and the top of stem. Is that acceptable?
Hi David - you have done it correctly and sorry for any confusion. As long as there is space between the top cap and the top of the steerer (either the stem clamp is above or spacers are slightly above) you are doing it right and will have things correctly setup. Is a torque wrench required for proper installation?
We highly recommend using a torque wrench to get all the bolts tightened to the exact tightness specified in the instructions and on the products.
Might want to include the need to go back and tighten the wedge after a "busy" gravel ride...I cant imagine using locktite on the screw though
Hi Robert - thanks so much for the great feedback. Regarding loctite you can definitely use that on the wedge bolt if you are looking for a semi-permanent hold just select something that is a step below permanent. Thanks
Hi there, 2 questions:
1: In the video the elastomers are below the preload wedge at first. Referring to the manual, the elastomers need to be always above the preload wedge, regarding if the stem is mounted in +/- 6° - super confusing.
2: Out of factory, the elestomers/stem is shipped in +6° for a rider weight between 135-155lbs, if that fits for me, is it save to just install the stem without touching the preload wedge/bolt/elastomers?

You are correct that the elastomers always need to be in the top - and good eyes noticing they were on the bottom at first - that was because we installed in the -6 deg and needed to swap them from default.
The stem is ready to ride out of the box and we actually recommend everyone give it a try if they want the +6 deg orientation and see how it feels and then adjust from there. Thanks

I just stripped my preload wedge bolt. Has anyone had this problem and found a way to get the bolt out? Or after the elastomers wear down, is the stem done? Thanks.

Which elastomers do i used for heaviest riders on paper says 60&50 which to me makes no sense whent it comes with 70,80&90 options
HI Juan - thanks for the question. If you are using the stem with a flat bar then using the 50/60 combo is pretty stiff. But you are right you could make the stem even more stiff going all the way to 80/90 but with a flat bar that is pretty much rigid. Most flat bar riders will be using a single elastomer which is why you don't see the bigger combos called out for a flat bar. For a drop bar you can see in the chart that the stiffest combo is 80/90. Can you install 2 utility mounts safely?
Hi Jeffery - thank you for checking the Stem out! You can certainly use 2 utility mounts safely on the Shockstop Stem! We have also seen customers use our Computer mount in the upper position and the utility mount in the lower. Take care!
Is it safe hide an AirTag in the open space in the stem body?
Great question. I would be cautious because the mechanism for the suspension is inside the stem body so if you didn't secure the tag to a spot that was not touching anything else it might get damaged - and if it got loose it would almost certainly get caught in something and might damage the stem and the tag. Can I use this with a carbon steerer tube?
Yes, you can use the stem with a carbon steerer tube. Make sure to in follow the torque specs and consult your frame manufacturers instructions as well.
Instructions say to apply down force to remove wedge which you didn't?
The bolt that secures the wedge comes with a small silver screw do you need to fix it with the large black bolt that comes with the pack ??

Hi there - I am guessing you have the 80mm version which includes a 2nd tool for installing the wedge - this tool is used to seat the wedge in place and then it is secured with the silver bolt and the install tool is removed. Why only 1 elastometer for flat bars, what would happen if you use two?
Since flat bars don't have the same leverage that drop bars do, the stem doesn't require as much resistance. If you used two elastomers, you might not notice the suspension travel.
Can you set the stem at 35degree angle
Thanks for the interest! The Shockstop Stem is not adjustable but we do have two angle options, +-6-degrees and +30-degrees! It sounds like our +30 degree could be a workable option for you. I had no success with installation. My model is a 110mm one, used in +6° position. I am trying to put it on a flatbar handlebar (hybrid bike), using a single 70kg (blue) elastomer. I weight 92 kg. I found no problems in insering the elastomer into one of the upper slots while pulling the stem up. I made sure I did push it to the bottom of the slot. Thereafter I insert back the wedge and start screwing it back while keeping downward pressure. The issue is that I reach 2.0 Nm torque only after about 10 turns, and not about 30 as expected. I am afraid to apply more torque and damage the thread. Assembling everything back using such torque ends by leaving the handlebar loose, with no resistance at all to vertical movement. I suspect using another elastomer will make no difference, since the issue seems to be the absence of precompression. I believe I reached 2 Nm by only countering the thread resistance, before even starting to compress the elastomer. I would appreciate hints on how to proceed here.

Thanks for reaching out StephanRay - ultimately it depends on what kind of riding position you are looking for. The +/-6 deg stem is a more suited for someone who wants a neutral stem angle and a more aggressive race type setup while the +30 is perfect for someone who wants to have a more upright type riding position. My bike has a +7 degree stem (touring bike). Will the 6 degree stem be ok or do you provide one at a steeper angle?
Hey, that should be no problem. The difference is so small you probably won't even notice it.

@@darrenprior6339 Yea, after my initial test ride I'm sold! Although the suspension travel is quite small, it really takes off the edge from cobblestobes, protruding tree roots, rocks and all kinds of small bunps. It also doesn't flex too much that it would feel sluggish when sprinting out of the saddle. I installed it on my gravel bike that I use for bikepacking. I believe it will increase comfort considerably during long days in the saddle.

If you have a +/- 6 deg stem if you happened to flip it to run in the -6 deg orientation you do need to flip the elastomers inside (as indicated in the instructions) but there could be other reasons as well that you are not feeling any motion and we can definitely help you get it sorted out right away. This is an older Specialized Roubaix that came out before they started equipping them with the future shock.
Max bar sweep?
Thanks for the interest! That is somewhat dependent on the length and angle of the stem you choose but in general, if the area where you grip the bars is level with or behind the pivot, you won't feel as much travel. Drop bars and flat bars work great but there can be some incompatibility issues with "cruiser-style" bars that have an excessive amount of rearward sweep.
why not provide equal amt of elastomers it we use 2?

Hmm - just bought and this does not fit on the headset for my Canyon. Looks to be 1-2mm short to fit. Anyone else come across this?
Hi Stuart - it is possible that you are trying to install the 1-1/8" steerer tube version on your canyon which has a 1-1/4" steerer tube diameter. It’s not a 3mm Allen wrench but a 2.5 torx for elastomer. Almost drove me to drink. Well after all done I notice the included torx wrench, lol. Still the video is wrong saying 3mm.

Hey it’s all good. Love the product. Ordered a second one for another bike. Just curious why you switched to torx from 3mm. Seems a thing now. Liked it better when all bike stuff was hex.

The switch to torx was actually just practical - we were trying to do as much as we could to ensure that it was hard to strip the internal wedge bolt - on the whole hex is a little easier to strip so we made the change and included a tool to make sure everyone had the right one. Please note that for newer stems the bolt is a torx not a hex and you can see this in the instructions that came with your stem. I've watched this and I'm non the wiser... As an instructional video is fairly poor, the camera should of been pointing inside the stem when you was working on the elastomers
