The detective placed his own badge to the dead body, since that would assumably make whoever discovered the body think that he (detective) was dead, helping him stay undercover. Although it didn't quite pan out that way, that was his initial motive. And, by the way... the VIP's are not supposed to all be Americans. It's easy to go unnoticed, but there are several different accents that are using English to communicate, but one is definitely Chinese, and another is supposed to be someone from a European country, since the games take place internationally... just FYI.

Cut or uncut... I'll take you both however I can get you. 😈
As for the horrible acting by the VIPs, it did not go unnoticed. A few of them were interviewed after the show and they explained some of the difficulties they themselves had with the script and with the show.

I actually don't mind the bad acting of the VIPs, for me it kinda adds to their evil antics and their overall shitty behavior being "otherworldly" (if that makes sense). as for the glass shattering, I agree with Luke in that I think it was there in case anyone was still left on the glass panels after time, but also to add spectacle for the VIPs. it's similar to what happened when they glass manufacturer started using his skills to win the game. the VIPs started becoming bored so the Frontman lowered the lights making the game fun for them again. the whole point of the games while the VIPs were there was to add entertainment for the VIPs. which begs the question: was anything the Frontman said in Episode 5 even real? did he truly believe in a fair world or was that all bullshit? are the games meant to give the contestants a fair chance, but only if it's also entertaining for the VIPs? I love this episode because it opens up a lot of discussion about the purpose of the games and the parallels one can draw between the games and real life.

If the Front Man left earlier before they found out #13 knew how to tell the difference between tempered & ordinary glasses, there would've been 4 left after this episode.

Agree with that prolonged smashed glass sequence...unnecessary and thought the same thing while watching it. Anyways, I've thoroughly enjoyed your commentary throughout.

Thought that glass thing at the end was Bs too. It makes more sense since you guys made me realized they were supposed to explose, but it's still weird...

How could they not like that bridge blowing scene? It served a lot of purposes. They lost me with that one lol

It served a couple purposes, arbitrarily, for the plot. It didn’t seem to make sense beyond needing a way to hurt the girl. We understand that the idea was that anyone left on the bridge when the time ran out would lose and die, but them needing to violently explode like grenades going off didn’t really seem to make any sense, again, beyond being an arbitrary plot device; “Well, we need her to die in the next episode, but we don’t want one of the guys to kill her, so what should we do?” “Oh I know, let’s have the glass on the bridge explode and one shard cuts her deep and ends up killing her”. I can think of at least 3 different ways they could’ve achieved that without exploding the glass. And then it being so dramatic and in slo-mo for so long just felt out of place with the rest of the pacing and editing of this episode (and the whole show, really).
But, to each their own, so we’re glad you enjoyed it. It didn’t subtract from the episode, just felt a little out of place at that stage in the show.

I’m thinking he hoped the body would wash up on mainland. The cops would know he’s missing.

The Korean actors were top notch like you said and American actors were bad because its hard to get quality American actors in korean show thats being taken in Korea and this is true vice versa, but they go ahead with it because they are not main characters.

I agree. Anyone left on the glass when the time was over , they had to fall. I wasn’t crazy about how long they did the slo-mo and YES the American actors were very terrible. lol. Not sure if they were trying to make Americans sound so one note compared to the Korean actors but it was a tad cringe worthy lol I don’t know if you tried to watch the English dubed in version but if you wanna hear terrible. It was 10x worse ( In my opinion ). It really took away from the great acting these Koreans did here. Can hardly wait for season 2 😀

I believe the Americans were meant to be as cringe as possible. Because they chose such quality people for the Korean roles. They know how to select talent. I think they wanted to portray the behavior of the vips as cringe and choppy and awful and heinous. I personally feel that it invoked the feelings we would have if we met people like this for real.
And I also think they blew up the glass in case anyone was on it. It was probably set on a timer to do so when time runs out.

I think it has more to do with this actually being what Koreans image of American Assholes is. I've read on Korean blogs that they did not think their acting was cringe at all. It's difficult to judge the quality of acting in a language you're not fluent in, so pretty sure the casting department wasn't able to see how cringe they would sound to English speaking audiences.
