We saved our flue cover when we renovated our 100 year old farm house. Our gas and oil man told us a flue cover is called a Thimble. Oh...and we had termites,
Powder post beetles, hornets and mold too! 🤣

If you do renovation, aren't you loosing some of that authentic feel of a 100 yr old house. With the landscape changes and all the house gutting, you could build a new house with the feel and style of the 100 yr old house but with the peace of mind that it will not have the old issues but will last for your lifetime.

Hang in there dad....one day your going to wake up IN THAT BEAUTIFUL home your remodeling. No more termites, no more mold, no more painting, no more prying apart etc etc....you and the fam are going to wake up in that 💯 yrs old home as your sitting on your porch watching the sun rise, chickens doing what they do and so on. Your home will then be Art and Bri’s forever homestead! I know I’m sticking around to see it happen!!
    Love ya all!

Art and Bri the first time i saw you you were staying with Justin and i have to say Art looked so disheartened but now i see love, happiness, peace and pride in his eyes. I’m glad things are moving forward towards the life you wanted to live and that these setbacks didn’t make you throw in the towel. It’s a daunting job but with the support from your lovely wife and children i’m sure you will persevere.

My brother is redoing our old home place. Built in 1920.
The bead board was painted the same color.
We took it down and cut off the tongue with a tablesaw.
Then we ran them through a planer to finish the back side.
    The paint side faces inward.

Be encouraged, the time you are spending on the house is for the family and is appreciated by your family. The children may not be able to express the appreciation in this moment but will when they experience the completed new home.

Did I tell you we had a whole 100 f0t long chicken barn sided with that bead board. It was installed vertical without any treatment so it weathered naturally. It was a very attractive barn for the goat dairy. The North end extended over a valley with horse stalls underneath. we could sweep the uneaten hay to the end of the manger and down a trap door to the horse stalls. The manure went out a Shute at the end and the pile was just 25 feet above the garden.

Kids need to sleep later - it’s their circadian rhythm Take a deep breath! I will be curious as to what your construction “guru” says about the termites. It’s probably a good thing you’re doing this renovation. I’m glad you’re not discouraged!!
Bri - why don’t you cook the pork bellies restaurant style in the oven? Art - you are spending more time with the family - your drive time & you need to provide for them too, so don’t beat yourself up too bad, ok?
This was a beautiful video. Thank you.

I am confident that will keep you going. Cheers and thanks for sharing.

It's so beautiful that kids can do such important things that really help the family. They know the importance of the task and appreciate it's value. It also helps that your children know that their effort is sincerely valued by you and Mrs. Bri. My heart is full just thinking about it.

Art just have to tell you, not that you don't already know it, but you have two of the most wonderful women in your life. Bri & Anna. You can tell that God leads their hearts. They spread love to all that they know. And your relationship with Anna has to pour over to your children. Your children have to know as they watch you and Anna day to day, that loving your sister or brother is a wonderful thing. Bri on the other hand is so many things I can't list them all. Perfect wife, Mother, & friend. I so look forward to every video that Bri is in because she always has great purpose in everything she shares with us. And though I'm 60 years old, I'm learning beautiful things from you all whom are much younger than I am. One reason that I'm particularly interested in you and Anna is, I just as close with my brother Keith, as you are to Anna. So I know how wonderful it is to have a brother like you Art. Just had to say this as I watched this video today. Be safe in your house remodel and Journey On!❤🙏😊

Beast to have found the termites and paper wasp etc. BEFORE building new house additions. Probably need ground treatment and treat all the remaining boards before adding any new wood so you can have a good protection plan in place before you get new structures in place. I don’t know who is up there - but Orkin - down here in Florida - did a complete treat after verifying we were clean and uphold it with a good million dollar warranty. Since all the neighbors have gotten termites - but knock on wood - we have been good! I forgot to add after watching I have tried making the fermented dilly beans, fermented carrots and I made/am making a fermented cranberry dish too - love the beans - they taste like pickles!!Carrots taking a bit longer :) Excited about the cranberrry too - keep tasting but its not time yet!

You know Art as much as the mould appearing and all the upset it caused, it brought you on a journey, it showed you how much you as a Family are all loved by the way your subbies and friends joined in to help, It gave you time to reflect on work as a Nurse, you have seen changes in your Family's Health for the better, it gave you Quality time with all your Family, something as you get older you wish you could have done, Well you are doing it, and if the mould had not shown up and the years went by, Look at the problems you would have had with all the problems you are finding now in your home, and when all of this is done and your new home that Love built is done, How proud you will will be to say You all Built this. Much love as always Dede xxxx

That kerosene space heater would have produced a lot of water into the atmosphere. Probably contributed a lot to the condensation/ black mould growth in the property.

It was vented to the outside. All that was on the inside was the hot air. It just like a normal furnace

@@larrykluckoutdoors8227 unless it’s a totally enclosed combustion chamber and even vented to the outside they give off a fair amount of water vapour

I grew up in a old farm house that had 2 heater like that in the 50s. We never had problems with water vapors, the flames were enclosed. The portable ones that you can carry from room to room you would have problems

Great job on the homestead...both of them (you tearing down one and Brid canning apple sauce for the family). You're really knocking the apple sauce out of that 200 lbs. of apples Bri. That would have been so overwhelming to me. Have a Blessed day.

We've done a lot of renos in our past... and found termite damage, but we always had someone else to fix it. Luckily, you know construction, you can take care of it. Lovely dinner and family time. God bless.

When you get done with the demo get some boric acid and make a slurry put that into a home pump sprayer and spray all your framing. It will inhibit termite activity.
