Indeed, his character had some childhood pain and so humor was his outlet. Very equipped to be a comfort character for all of us. Phoebe seemed similar with her past and free spirit/new age stuff… but given Matthew is considered most like his character it felt more real.

Matthew was such a terrific actor on friends
Chandler's characters helped me to find humor even when I've been put through the ringer. No one else couldve played that role as perfectly as matt perry he will be truly be missed ,but his legacy will never be forgotten 🙏🏾❤.
I'm just feeling so sad that I've lost a friend. Chandler was my favorite too and Matthew Perry just lived in that character so well. Rest in Peace, you certainly brought joy to many.

Chandler might as well have been tailor made for Matthew Perry. In real life, he still essentially was Chandler - quick, charming, sensitive. Even his previous shows before Friends mostly seem like we're watching some earlier version of Chandler. I will always love his role in the very underrated movie Two to Tango.
Last year it was the amazing Kevin Conroy who passed away long before his time; today it's Matthew Perry. I was born in 87' and these two Artists were the sole reason I got into acting. It's this different kinda pain when someone who was there during your formative years is gone so suddently.
To anyone who's ever battled an addiction or been a victim of violence: DO NOT ever let a hateful notion 'there's something wrong with me' sink in. Trust me, it's a recipe for self hatred and compulsive anxieties later on. When we suffer and we need a break, it's only natural to think: maybe if I wasn't 'different', if I was 'normal' I would be accepted. No, we all struggle with our own demons, addictions or anxieties in the same way the haters will always find something else to prey upon. For ex; I've always had kinda androgynous look, which was a fuel for bullies when I was growing up. I embraced it, used it to my advantage in my acting / modeling career, I was almost the face of Leon in these new Resident Evil games :)
Thank you Chandler bing for making world better place to live for us and what a brilliant sense of humor you had

Horrible how one freak accident can ruin someone’s life. In Matthews case it was a skiing accident that caused him to have an addiction to pain killers for the rest of his life. Not to mention his alcoholism. All those things contributed to his death. I hope he’s at peace now though. RIP Matthew. Thanks for the laughs!
Thank you Matthew for putting yourself in all of that and giving us Chandler, you will leave a long time after us all, sorry your life hasn't been easy on you.

I'm in America and FRIENDS is on MAX. I've been streaming it since Sunday morning. I need to see and hear him. Usually when a celebrity I love dies, it's hard for me to watch their movies, etc. But with Matthew's, I want to see and hear him. 😢💔
There are just no words to describe what a great actor Matthew was. He was hilarious and always spot on. Im sure a great person too, I never met him. A part of me is still in denial. You are already missed Matthew, but will never be forgotten. Thank you for all the laughs and more to come, because I always watch the reruns.

THe show is rerun endlessley here in australia, 4-5 episodes every night so every 10 weeks it goes through the whole series then starts again, I try not to watch it because I see it too much, but often it's the only thing on and having suffered a brain injury and unable to watch docos or movies anymore they are too taxing, it's been a familiar comfort to know the show is there and I can just leave it on and still catch a line to laugh at. So this has hit surprisingly hard, I see and hear and laugh at that guy every night and he seems very similar to his character. It's really hit everyone at a personal level.
I am definitely forcing my future kids to watch ‘Friends’ before any other TV shows

I’m Belgian and have ‘followed’ Friends forover 25 years. Chandler Bing was a very special personality, magnificently performed by Mr. Perry but during intervieuws you could see he was suffering. RIP Matthew. ❤

Was so sorry to hear the news about Mr. Perry's passing. Watched 'Friends' at least thrice having all spectrum of emotions every time. Probably, I've got the reason now to rewatch it once more. Or it least some movies with Matthew like 'The Ron Clark story', 'The whole nine yards' or 'Serving Sara'.
One of my best friends reminds me visually of Matthew: similar face, hairstyle, smile. He was the one who sent me this news
