Monk Solves the Case in his Sleep | Monk
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 бер 2023
- ... this is maybe the most chaotic episode ever?! Not only did Monk solve the case, but the main suspect died of a heart attache and the worst part about it? Monk is being held hostage and none of the team know where he is! Yikes - this is definitely one for the history books. Certainly that, AND the fact that Monk managed to solve the case in his sleep too!
Season 3, Episode 11 "Mr Monk vs the Cobra": Despite supposedly being dead for six years, a kung fu movie star is implicated in the murder of the author of a controversial tell-all biography.

Monk Synopsis: Adrian Monk (Emmy®-winner Tony Shalhoub) was once a rising star with the San Francisco Police Department, legendary for using unconventional means to solve the department's most baffling cases. But after the tragic and still-unsolved murder of his wife, Trudy, the devastated Monk becomes obsessive-compulsive. His psychological disorder has caused him to develop an abnormal fear of virtually everything: germs, heights, crowds... even milk. Monk's condition costs him his job, but he's back as a police consultant despite the unique challenges he encounters in his everyday life. These challenges lead Monk to hire a personal nurse, Sharona Fleming (Bitty Schram), who is always there to offer her assistance, even with the simplest of tasks (like organizing his sock drawer). Her less-than-subtle prodding keeps the "defective detective" on track in his investigations, as well as in his efforts to convince Captain Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine) to allow him to return to the force.
The Official Channel devoted to the brilliance of DI Adrian Monk; the defective San Franciscan detective, whose OCD is both a blessing and a curse. We'll be posting the very best moments from the show so, like Monk, you'll never miss a beat.

"He's got 40 minutes of air, if he's not panicking. We've got 15 minutes." It's funny, but Leland kept it real.
My personal thought process was "okay I know this is a serious moment and everything but that was funny"
Less if that candle keeps burning.
and if he's not claustrophobic
Everytime
@@DaveFisher-cq2drwhich he is, but thankfully he was in a dream at the time, so he was happy instead of panicking
I just noticed that the three of them, Randy, Leland, and Natalie, all had a hand in helping to pinpoint Monk’s location. Randy noted the graveyard’s expansion, narrowing it down to an acre and a half. Leland noticed the cut power cable to the traffic light narrowing the search down to a straight line where the line would be. And Natalie heard Monk talking through that machine, narrowing it further to that one spot in the dirt.
It really gives each of them a big part to play instead of just having one or two of them solving it.
Exactly, it’s a brilliant moment letting them all shine, and show their relative competencies.
@@JF-um3wz Monk is a glorious show because it is rare to see incompetent characters, and when we do they're usually the fall guys or patsies of the episode's villain. The cops are competent, Natalie's competent-what makes Monk special isn't that he's merely _competent,_ it's that his mind is working so differently from the norm that the way he sees the world is just... *Different.* And that's why I'll always love Monk.
Psyche is fun, but it relies way too much on Sean being the smartest or most observant guy in the room, and others only get time to shine when Sean lets them, or isn't around in the first place, and the only character who is an exception to the "Sean's better" effect is his father, because we totally need strained family drama in a goofy crime show.
Something I love about this episode is that we see how much people truly care about Monk. I mean, you can see the urgency of Leland and Randy to find him and the fear of not finding him on time.
Yes, that incredible
Everybody - the moment Leland realized where he was buried, everybody rushed to save him 😊
@@ChandraMigina it's very touching to see Leland so worry about Monk when we see his attitude towards him in some episode
Such a precious scene with him and Trudy. And her asking him to close the office and pay her what she needs... I cried...
Poor Monk just clinging desperately to keep seeing her for as long as possible even though he’s dying.😭
I love the continuity. "I should have taken more pictures" >> 4 years later >> 300 pictures in one day of SPOILER.
I think Leland and Randy went a little faster after Monk said “I love you” is because they know that Monk’s talking to Trudy
The last scene was heartwrenching. Monk was ready to die if it meant being with Trudy again but as it was in his mind he imagined her saying that he must go back and continue living as it´s something Trudy would have said to Monk.
It’s so telling how much he really loved Trudy. In his fantasy with her by his side, she’s touching him, holding him, even going so far as skin contact.
All of his issues started after she died, makes sense.
Not all his issues, he always had phobias and compulsions, but Trudy’s death worsened them all significantly.
@@DrEpicPhDhe had the issues even when he was a child but he was able to manage them and function. When Trudy died he had a total breakdown and all his issues not only came back but got so much worse
Bless whoever is keeping this channel alive
❤ totally, bless them.
Yes - it’s a great channel. Thank you so much, to whoever is doing the work to share moments from the brilliant ‘ Monk’ episodes. 😁
Good to see them back with the movie
@@emilianoxtz4387 Yes ! 😁 I found out only yesterday. 🎉🎉
True...
I love how Natalie lunged at the crook before Stottlemeyer stopped her. It was partly to prevent her from getting in trouble and partly because he wanted a piece of that guy first.
Monk was so calm and brave, being buried alive is every human being's worst fear, good thing Captain Stottlemeyer had lots of people digging to find him
This is literally the definition of "I could do that in my sleep"
Leland wasn't drunk but he was still sharp enough to save Monk.
akskkdkd like kogoro mouri XD
"I've never seen anyone smile in there," that shook me. What a man Mr. Monk... What a man.
Lol they open the coffin, and the look on Monk's face, as he's dreaming of Trudy and smiling 🤣Natalie "He's smiling" Stottelmyer "I've never seen this"
"I've never seen him look happier"
Which hits a lot harder than just "ive never seen this"
I know, you'd think he'd be panicking and gasping for air, being buried alive is every human being's worst fear
@@DaveFisher-cq2dr It was all thanks to Trudy. Call what Monk experienced a dream, a mental breakdown or a supernatural occurence, but in one way or another, he met Trudy again and she kept him calm.
@@Greendalewitch she sure did
Crowley being Crowley across universes 🤣🤣🤣❤️❤️
Such an emotional and heartwarming scene
Fun bit of trivia, originally the writers wanted to use a real world celebrity (either Jerry Garcia or Audrey Hepburn) to be assumed as the murderer having faked their death. They didn't get permission, tried to go with Bruce Lee, were denied the use of his name as well, and created Sonny Chow as a Lee expy.
I can understand why they said no.
Only downside of the entire thing is the end shot when they open the coffin. His hand is covered in wax from the burning candle. When they zoom in more on his face, his hand has absolutely zero wax on it.
If you notice its also not even the same hand. When the coffin is opened the hand with the candle wax has the pocket right above it. When they show him the second time it looks like the same hand but pocket is on the left side. They used his right hand in first shot and flipped the image backwards and used his left hand.
@@3C-Racing okay Monk
@@3C-Racing nice catch
I was going to comment on the same thing...
@@3C-Racing That's correct, I was about to point that out. Also notice that when the image was flipped, it would have shown the opening of the coffin on the right side as opposed to the left side in the first shot, so they had to cover the right side with additional white lining. I also feel the pillow is missing in the last shot, as well as the pen in his pocket. Another point is a very subtle difference in the colour of his blazer/coat which is a bit more brown in the first shot as compared to more of a deep grey in the last shot. :)
The candle would have consumed more oxygen much faster, and the candle would have gone out first before he died of hypoxia (lack of oxygen).
I agree. Unless without the candle he would panic, hyperventilate and use the air faster than the candle burned it up??
His eyes are closed he didn’t need it, only reason why he had the candle was so they could have that one shot of him at the beginning of the clip. That’s tv for ya
This may be my favorite scene in the series. Monk is eccentric to the point of annoyance to others, hes so good they put up with him, and the Captain thinking like Monk is able to save the day
50 cubic feet of air in a coffin? What? That's not a coffin, that's a pharaoh's tomb
not really...i mean its a bit of an exaggeration but, not an insane one. 7x3x2 ft is enough to get nearly 50 cubic feet (42).
again, obviously an exaggeration, but not as big as you imply
I love how this was a team effort in everything related to finding monk. Its great to see everyone's perception and quick thinking also being highlighted in life-or-death situations.
Perfect timing, they announced a Monk Special
I was like what are you talking about and I looked it up. I can’t believe it’s true
6:52 Monk has candle wax on his hand.
7:01 The candle wax disappears.
hmmm.... magic
But from 6:49 to 7:05, I see a moving glow like a flame, so the candle must still be in his hand. I call this a good camera angle.
Theres also no soot on the coffin lid
The candle would have consumed more oxygen much faster, and the candle would have gone out first before he died of hypoxia (lack of oxygen).
If you notice its also not even the same hand. When the coffin is opened the hand with the candle wax has the pocket right above it. When they show him the second time it looks like the same hand but pocket is on the left side. They used his right hand in first shot and flipped the image backwards and used his left hand for second shot.
"Heres what happened..."
Netflix added the series an im hooked. Haven’t seen this show in years. Brings back good o times. This episode got me on tears how much it shows everyone cares.
Technically, Monk solved the case before he was knocked unconscious. He just explained it while he was asleep. Sorry to nitpick but...this is Monk. A little nitpicking feels appropriate. 😉
Cool for a show in real life touch grass.
Before crowley was taking souls to hell he was burying the bodies like monk
I’ve never seen him so happy
If you notice its also not even the same hand holding the candle. When the coffin is first opened the hand with the candle wax has the pocket right above it. When they show him the second time it looks like the same hand but pocket is on the left side. They used his right hand in first shot and flipped the image backwards and used his left hand for second shot.
I wish we'd have whole episodes, that is one of the best shows.
They are available
4:37 Leland's Voice Breaking 😢
Honestly I'm not surprised. Burying somebody who's afraid of dirt a live is totally something that Crowley would do.
Hahaha I was just thinking "Oh nice, Crowley's in this one" XD
Must be the same casting agency for Monk and Supernatural. A surprising amount of people appear in both shows.
Lovely Episode! So great they are all coming back!
I wish they had stottlemeyer shouting "Where's Monk," on a 10 hour loop. complete him punching or slapping Downey in the face.
Probably one of my favourite “Here’s how it happened” because he told it to Trudy
Also I couldn’t hold back any tears when Monk handed the ball back to the little girl, who I think he imagines is his child and when he said “I should’ve said yes” and “I should’ve taken more pictures”
It just shows how much he truly loved Trudy and how much of a good man he is. This is easily one of the best and emotional episodes, the credits even play Trudy’s theme.
The wax on his hands disappears during the last cut.
Thanks love watching this. ❤
I don’t think the candle helps with lack of oxygen
It doesn't, in fact Trudy mentions it in his imagination with her. Just goes to show how smart Monk is and how it is seen in his unconscious state
They messed up the shots. When they open the coffin, the candle is melted. In the final shot, it's a different candle and there's no wax.
This is really Trudy, you can’t convince me otherwise!
There's just one problem in this scene, the candle in the end of the scene, in which when the casket was open, a piece of the candle melted, and then when it comes back to another shot the candle's wax is not melted anymore...A detail that can be spotted so easily
The guy who dies of a heart attack in this video, Mark Sheppard, really had six heart attacks in real life recently.
Such love.
4:33 - "Should we bring in the cadaver dogs?"
Wait, what? Dogs? You have dogs that can smell a dead body? Can't they smell a live body? Can't you give them a piece of something of Monk's and have them find that scent?
My exact question, I googled it and it seems theyre used to find human remains or dead bodies. Im not sure if they can be used to find alive people
@@chasmkek yeah they are trained to find human remains, not really used to find live bodies
and the question just showes Randy's naïveté as...they're in a cemetery, the dogs would be barking non stop from the smell of all the other bodies so theyd be useless
@@mrroboshadow the part of the cemetery they suspected Monk was in was recently dug. There weren't supposed to be any bodies there yet, so dogs that can sniff out corpses is a totally reasonable suggestion.
@@weneedaladder8384 its still near enough to the rest of the bodies to confuse the dogs
You forgot that Monk doesn't have a scent
Mark Shepard having a heat attack.... and now this shows up on my feed.
not the wax melted on his hand DISSAPEARING at the end... lol
Can't wait for the new Monk movie.
The old master was right, that candle did come in handy.
They needed Monk for continuity direction... The candle in the last 2 scenes.
His wife hears the digging from beyond the grave....
Jan from office was monks wife? Crazy
Funny how that candle DIDN'T eat up all the oxygen in the coffin OR burn the soft fabric lining the inside of the coffin....
Don't forget the wax mysteriously disappeared in the final shot.
You wonder where that came from - did Monk really talk with himself or with Trudy - especially seeing as he was against closing the office 🤔 😅
The first shot when they open the casket, you can see all the wax on his hand from holding the candle, but in the next shot his hand is clean. I thinkit's a shame they didn't keep the wax, I think that adds a very powerful element to the frame.
I wasn't crazy, I've seen that actor in Doctor Who, he's the FBI agent from the impossible astronaut!
Badger Sighting!
one shot has him with candle wax on hand then no wax in the last
Crowley's Meatsuit before Supernatural 😮
Is that jan from tbe office lmao
So, no one is going to mention how those cops weren't really digging?
Crowley!
the continuity error with the candle always bothers me
How did that candle not even scorch the silk above the flame?
2:40 im assuming that the criminal who buried monk must have died since putting a large white drape means death correct?
Honestly....WHY HAVE A LIT CANDLE IN A SEALED COFFIN?
You're not paying attention
You can hear the actor who portrays Downey's accent slipping.
Leyland pulled a Monk!!!😊
I love when he figured it out via the downed traffic light 🚥
Which season is this?
It's Crowley from Supernatural!
Anyone notice the blooper with the candle?
Crowley as always
y'all can go back and check this😂😂😂 but when they open the coffin there's wax all over his hand. However, when they cut cut back to him there's no wax on his hand🤷🏻♀️🤣🤣🤣
Wait is that crowly from supernatural?
Trudy is Jan from the Office
Crowley vs Monk
*MONK* (S3, Ep11: _Mr. Monk vs The Cobra_ ; January 28, 2005)
_Chris Downey_ (Mark Sheppard)
_Trudy Monk_ (Melora Hardin)
He should of just used his ability as Crowley
The most shocking episode !!
You cut the part when the murderer hits Monk with a shovel before to bury him alive while Monk is trying to escape himself, stuck under the ground 😳 To be buried Alive is the worst worst worst thing a human can live.
But this was a very good episode, and the movie which will be shooted in may is a very good new!
Move The Monk?
And this wouldn't even be the only time it happened to him
I know, being buried alive is every human being's worst fear
And the murderer's own heart betrayed him
Crowley!!
He wasnt sleeping. He was in a hypostate induced by stress. Its a coping mechanism. And definitely not sleeping.
6:53 The wax is melted. 7:03 the candle is whole.
Leave it to crowley to bury monk. He didn't die he just smoked out
0:07 Spook - I just watched an episode of Battlestar Galactica and that actor (Mark Sheppard) was playing a lawyer...
Medium!
Here’s what happened this guy stole somthing but almost got caught so he put the grave on a actor but didn’t realize it’s a famous one. So he had to make it look like he resurrected. They would want to check if he’s alive meaning to redig the coffin
Burning candle to burn some of that nasty oxygen away. Smart.
is the 35-40 accounting for the candle using oxygen? I hope so
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Crowley?!
If I had a nickel for every time monk was buried alive I’d have two nickels.
That's not a lot.
@@nickdejager8873 yeah but it’s weird that it happened twice.
Crowley shouldnt have messed with monk
Jan?
Anyone else excited for the new Monk movie?
Crowley. Before he was a demon.
He had a heart attack died went to hell and became the king then met 2 boys.
it's too bad they didn't find Paul Conroy who was buried alive in that movie "Buried"
Crowley ?
No.., YOU'RE crying!
