They are not all running, probably just 2 or 3. There are limits on how many powered axles can be used. The extra engines are most likely dead in tow, they must be on the headend with the other locomotives.

That was a smart thing for that pedestrian to do - smack the last car as it passed like he was punishing the train for making him wait to cross the street. Good thing his hand didn't get caught on something....it would have been a real drag.

You guys have so much power on your consist’s up here on a manifest we have maybe four locomotives. Shoot the other day I was by the yard by my house and the manifest leaving the yard had one loco on the head and they stuck one on the back cause he was complaining he didn’t have enough power.
How exactly does CSX route it's trains leaving Baltimore heading north? I've looked on Google maps and can't figure out where they have to go through in order to leave Baltimore for their journeys north or vice versa.
I think when you say Baltimore, you mean at this spot? About 1/8 mile before this train came into view, it emerged from a tunnel. That tunnel goes under the whole downtown area of the city, and comes out on the other side of town somewhat near Bayview Yard (which is also in Baltimore). To continue north from Bayview, the Philly Sub goes north, sort of following parrallel to I-95.
It is not uncommon to have a train with this many locomotives for one reason. It is a power move. Only the first 2 engines, maybe the third are online and pulling. The rest are moving for a variety of reasons. Power re positioning, heading for maintenance, heading for storage, heading for inspection etc etc.

@trainboy647. It’s a Nathan K5HL horn. Pretty standard for most railroads but commonly used on BNSF and CSX trains.
