Hi good video, when you say the electronic plate are you talking about the black plastic piece with the wires attached under the metal plate with the 3 screws? As i have just changed over my wooden steering wheel from my 2013 E400 sedan to an all leather 2016 AMG wheel? but didn't change the black plastic piece with the wires on? Is it necesary to change this for everything to work properly? As i have noticed sometimes the ilumination lights under the buttons on the new wheel come on by themselves but then turn off? Also my airbag warning light is coming on?
hey Graham, yes, i by electronic plate i mean the steering wheels "motherboard" that is located where you described. If your steering wheel controls(buttons) are working fine that means you don't need to replace it . as far as button lights working intermittently, cause of that must be an imperfect connection so i would advise you to check all wires are connected properly. re the airbag warning, that could light up when if you don't disconnect the battery before unplugging the airbag wire. go to a local garage that has a mercedes star on any other diagnostic tool to delete the error and that should do the job. if the warning lights up again than that means you will need to install your "old" electronic plate/mother board just like i did . trust this helps

If you have a monochrome instrument cluster, I assume your E class is a 2010 year? At least mine is 2010 and it is also with monochrome cluster. Later models, I think 2012 and up are with multicolor displays. I think it is possible to swap them.

@@AyyJays yes mate ...I got it to work......but it was not easy as the video...took it to a Mercedes specialist...he had to get a chip from a different model/car and swapped them around....the physical steering wheel works itself but the functions were not working...hence why he had to swap the chip/circuit board in the wheel....where are you based

Thanks for your work putting this interesting video together. I recently had the original battery replaced on my 2005 E350 W211 after about 13 years. My problem is that although my clock does the same as yours and syncs to the GPS satellites, the DATE does not. After the battery change the date reverted to the original issue date of the vehicle operating system (sometime in 2003) and I am unable to reset the date via the COMAND System menu. Does anyone have any experience with this issue? Thanks very much for reading and all help offered :-)
hello Denys. i am not entirely sure to which colour you are reffering to . the only thing i upgraded on my ntg system is that i've added a rear and front camera module. soon, i'll be making a video on how i've done that .
Arpad Kemeri well normal 5 pod cluster is usually brown and yellow colored in the menu. Yours is dark blue and silver those colors usually come on 3 pod menus

Hello! I am not sure what you mean. To delete an airbag error you’ll need a diagnostic tool. To avoid having an airbag error when replacing a steering wheel, you need to remove the battery plug

Nuraldeen Khalaf it is doable but it is slightly more complicated, it’ll need some wiring welding. Send me an email with pics of your old & now steering wheel and i’ll send instructions

hi Ricardo. yes, in some scenarios that could be required. ie. if on your current/stock steering wheel the electronic plate aka the circuit board is located on the airbag itself & NOT on the steering wheel part. ( in my case, both old & new steering wheels had the circuit board located on the steering wheel & not on the airbag hency why the wiring/cabling was the same so after swapping the circuit board it was just a plug&play job really). So when that is the case(when the circuit board is different you will need some soldering job as the wiring is slightly different. if that's the case drop me a note & i'll explain how to do it, it isn't that difficult as it might appear. hope this helps

I had to swap the chip between both steering wheels, chip size and connections were the same and everything works, buttons , illumination, horn. etc. So glad I didn't have to do any cutting or soldering like I've read elsewhere.
@@1ahozz After I swapped the steering wheels, nothing worked either. Then I examined the circuit boards in each steering wheel. The shape was the same so I swapped them (unscrew the torks, unplug everything from the old board, take it out of the old steering wheel, then removed the board from the new steering wheel and put the old board in the new wheel and reconnected all the plugs making sure that each plug goes where they should). The boards were shaped the same, so I did not have to do any cutting and the controls were the same so i did not need to do any soldering. After doing this everything worked. My board swap was like 5-10 minutes. Now, I've read a lot on this and if the new wheel isnt compatible, the boards and or controls can be different, when this is the case it gets more complicated and people do 1 of 2 things. 1. Switch the boards by soldering/cutting or 2. Replacing the steering column multi-switch unit (the thing that is directly under the steering wheel with all the levers/sticks). If there is incompatibility, it means the electrical signal from the buttons/horns etc travels to the small circuit board but is then unable to hand off to the steering column connection due to hardware or software (hence why switching to old board OR switching the steering column works). This is a mod worth doing! I still look forward to grabbing the steering when sitting in my car lol
Hello! As i stated in the video, depends a lot on the specs of both cars. Ie. if your new steering wheel has the multifunction ball and the old one doesn’t(actually more than sure it doesn’t as w212 do not have multifunction botton in their steering wheel) . Than it will not work as coding will be different even if you replace the circuit board

My car has the exact same steering wheel as your one, its just without the paddle shifters.

Now, I've read a lot on this and if the new wheel isnt compatible, the boards and or controls can be different, when this is the case it gets more complicated and people do 1 of 2 things. 1. Switch the boards by soldering/cutting or 2. Replacing the steering column multi-switch unit (the thing that is directly under the steering wheel with all the levers/sticks). If there is incompatibility, it means the electrical signal from the buttons/horns etc travels to the small circuit board but is then unable to hand off to the steering column connection due to hardware or software (hence why switching to old board OR switching the steering column works). This is a mod worth doing! I still look forward to grabbing the steering when sitting in my car lol

Hello! As i stated in the video, depends a lot on the specs of both cars. Ie. if your new steering wheel has the multifunction ball and the old one doesn’t(actually more than sure it doesn’t as w212 do not have multifunction botton in their steering wheel) . Than it will not work as coding will be different even if you replace the circuit board

the clusters you have are standard or you changed it to be in colour?
Hello William, yes it is standard. mine is a manufactured in 2012/12 so it's a pre-pre facelift. hence the multicolor cluster & satnav

@@cawsli2 hello William. yes it can be changed but, it's not as simple as swapping the unit, you'll need star coding done to match the mileage of the car, etc... if you go to mercedes they won't be able to help as they never do any retrofit, you better look for a 3rd party mercedes specialist..... ua-cam.com/channels/hGJisRUKXh7mmMGxFEfUGw.html check out this channel, these guys do a lot of retrofit , they are over in China but they may be able to help you remotely with the coding. hope this helps
