I can understand partial segments, I studied it for a few years but it became displaced by other tasks. I think German is a beautiful and underappreciated language. People think it is abrasive but I think it is complex, and highly expressive... Most pleasant to listen to in the right context - a context which you very much provide. A beautiful reading, thanks for sharing.

So, now I'm studying german for 1 year and a half. The lied doesn't make sense to me yet, but a lot of words do, which is enough to make me happy :)
Learning a language always takes a long time! Don’t give up and happy to hear some words sound familiar 😉 toi toi toi 👍🏻
I wouldnt recommend learning German with poems because most vocabulary is very old and the grammar is different than nowadays or false from the beginning. I think learning poems of a foreign language in general should only be done after you learned at least the basics of the language.

Don't know the language.. would definitely love to! The rendition of the poem is just as it should be.. sounds great!! Tried to understand the poem through English translation.. Well written! Would like to translate it in Hindi.... 💐
As a German, the English translation is almost its own separate poem. I've never read it in English but the translation was shockingly different. I wouldn't call it inaccurate but it's not the same at all

Yes! Actually there are no rules but lots of styles referring to meter and rhymes :)

This is lovely, but the English translation is hidden behind the red line UA-cam puts to show how far you've got. And the yellow text is almost invisible against the pink background.
I'll be listening to more, but I wish I could read the translation more easily.

Another tip that might be useful - you're using an English version of the poem as your translation, but I would actually find a direct translation of the German words to be more useful.
When a poem is translated into poetry, words get moved between lines, and sometimes a whole phrase has to have major changes in the words, in order to make it rhyme and scan. So it is no longer an exact translation of the original line.
I want to understand the German and feel the meaning when I listen to your voice.
A German friend of mine got me interested in German poetry - I find it the most interesting and beautiful way of learning your language. Thank you for these videos.
