For context with that last woman, Montessori is not any old daycare. That is ultra-high-end education that has an extremely good reputation for one-on-one attention and care. They provide the best of the best hybrid when it comes to caring for children and extensive education. They cannot be compared to absolutely any other daycare out there. They are world-renowned. It's not even about California. It's Montessori all over. It's very, very good and worth every dollar.
i went to montessori!! it was right next to my current school lol (and by right next to, i mean there is literally a gate separating the two, you could jump the fence and literally just be in the kindie...)
Depends on the school and teachers. I went to Montessori until 6th grade. With the right teacher, learning was great. With the wrong teacher, learning was not happening.
They pay minimum wage in MO. I toured multiple facilities. One reeked of bleached and was set up prison style. The others were cute and welcoming BUT I noticed that the daycare providers just sat on the floor and scrolled on a tablet with the kids. The managers giving the tours didn’t even act like that was a problem.
You would think, but nope. Back when I worked at a daycare I made maybe $9/hr. Maybe. The center I worked at charged based on their age. They started at $400/week for 6 weeks to a year. That’s $20,800/year. We had one family that had triplets in our care. This by the way was almost 15 years ago.
There's a cat daycare!? That would be my dream job to work there, lol. I have cats too. Children are absolutely not in my budget. The cats are barely in my budget.
14 years married and people kept asking; no kids? My hubby always said; too expensive. It is! Luckily we have no desire to have kids and are old anyway.
Same here. We see how much our friends struggle. In addition to that, I wouldn't want my child to miss out on things the way I did because my parents really couldn't afford to provide much.
@ what you say is so true! Almost all of my friends have kids and if you dare to say they are cute they would jump on the remark and be like; wanna babysit? Way too eager to give their kids 😇😅. I also saw my sister struggle and noticed she doesn’t like kids + these kids are smart and manipulate. My mother divorced my father and jumped into a marriage with my stepdad for the money yet never had enough and struggled too. My husband and I are both from poor backgrounds and it is hard to built a normal life with no backing; let alone bring kids into this strange, crazy world 🤪

People used to get so mad at me when they'd push for me to have kids and I'd turn around and tell them that when they paid to feed, clothe, and educate them I'd have kids. 😂
The first lady didn’t mention for how many hours they’re watching her children. A relative of mine and her husband are both working and in a serious amount of debt. They have 2 children and were gonna pay $4,000 a month at a 24hr daycare. They were complaining about the price but they work from 6:30am to 6:30p meaning they’re with their children from early morning to late evening. That’s a lot of work for those daycare employees, Monday - Friday.
God, that's just embarrassing. Imagine being fine with your kid seeing childcare workers more than they see their own parents. Like the celebrities that use nannies for maybe 1 or 2 kids.
A lot of children in daycare are there full time, seeing the daycare workers more than they see their parents. If you think of how exhausted parents are with one baby, imagine up to 8 babies with 2 teachers to care for them (10+hrs a day) Any young kids for that matter. It is a taxing job and the burnout is real. It seems a lot of people are having kids without researching what that would mean for their finances. Doing research after the child/ren are already here isn’t good enough. By that point you just have to try your best to survive even if you’re not making enough to pay for it. I feel bad for the struggling parents, but I also feel bad for the daycare workers who are raising these kids and still don’t get paid enough despite parents paying what they are.
I don't get how a mother could be fine with her baby seeing daycare workers more than they see her. Same for fathers obviously, but the mother literally carries and gives birth to her child, just to hand the child off to strangers and barely see her own child.
@ It’s usually because they want or need to work (mothers and fathers). Nothing is free.🤷🏾♀️ I’ve also found that “maternal instinct” is a myth, so mothers aren’t necessarily more likely to feel more connected to their children after birth than the father. Unfortunately we can see this by looking at the people who turned out to be not so good parents.
I think having four kids that need daycare is an absolute insane amount of young kids to have. If you don’t like the price, someone else wants to charge then just stay home and open your own daycare.

Yeah it may be multiples, twins etc. $500 for a day is a ridiculous price. That daycare is just trying to get the same out of her that they would from a full-time kid.
Montessori isn't daycare🤣, they are literally training and teaching your kids from a very young age fully-immersed in a very controlled setting, like everything is thought through, they are teaching your kids basically how to tidy up after themselves, manners, English, maths, etc etc, all from a very young age. Montessori is a specialised school that very young children can attend as well, not 'daycare'.
I was a preschool teacher for 12 years. I quit 4 years ago. I was making $11.25 an hour. I had to get 10 hours of unpaid continuing education a year. I have a bachelor's degree in education. The money isn't going to the teachers.

Imagine your the person taking care of a child and getting paid only $125 a week. Alot wouldn’t do it. So many people are out of touch about child care. As someone who worked at a daycare, let me tell you, it’s not for everyone and a HUGE responsibility. If anything daycare workers are under pay. Don’t forget you are still paying them for their time to be there. I would also say, there is people who SHOULD NOT be working at a daycare but they do. (maybe be because there’s a shortage idk) Not everyone has patience for every child. There’s children with disabilities that daycare workers are not trained for. Not to mention there parent who are in denial and refused to get help. I had a coworker had to do CPR on one child once, had to call an ambulance. If she didn’t just random check the child while she was napping, at that exact moment, who know what would have happened. That responsibility would have falling over my coworker. Point made is it’s a huge responsibility. We are talking about little one here who cant defend themselves and most still can’t talking. One or two adults taking care for many of them at once. I have a 4 year now and I refused to go back to work till I knew he can communicate with me and is independent enough. By the grace for God we made it work. Sacrifices had to be made but it was worth it. I understand it’s hard out there but please concern if it’s hard for you out there, it’s hard for daycare workers as well.
Yeah…I had a hard time watching this video. I worked in daycare for about 8 yrs and it is so much work. I saw those babies way more hours than the parents did, felt like I was raising them myself. The prices are that way in order to pay daycare workers a living wage and usually they still live paycheck to paycheck. Not to mention the burnout. It seems that people are just having kids without researching what that means for their family financially. I feel bad for them, but that’s not the daycare’s fault.

I was excellent at my job, but it was slowly deteriorating my mental, emotional, and physical health. You know what’s crazy also, the Child Tax Credit is only $2000! The refundable portion is $1700! This country wants us to have children, but there isn’t anything affordable for working parents. If you are in a two income household, 1 parents entire salary could go just towards childcare. I’ll also like to add, THERE IS NO MORE FEDERAL/STATE CHILD CARE ASSISTANCE! A coworker of mine, who qualifies and got approved, still have to pay full price out of pocket due to there being no funds!
@ I didn’t say that taxpayers should, however we do! I pay taxes and I’m a parent, I don’t qualify for anything. If you have a problem then tell the politicians so we all can stop paying taxes that go towards social programs such as Medicaid, food stamps, child care. And why you’re at it, tell them to stop using property taxes to fund public schools. I would LOVE to have more money in my pocket to feed my family.
18:53 the thing is the hit that your career takes for staying home makes it very difficult to get back to when you're ready. I'm grateful I was able to work remotely and keep my baby home.
Daycare honestly sucks in general. My son was in one of the best daycares in the area when he was 1 and we pulled him out after 5 week. He wasn’t even there half the time because he was sick. He cried and cried and cried all day. One of the days he went through WHOLE DAY without eating or drinking anything and they didn’t even tell us until we picked him up. Got sick 3 times in those 5 weeks. He just wanted us or his grand parents. Thought it would be beneficial that he would have other kids to play with but most kids under 3 don’t even play with each other. Complete waste of money, time, and tears. We paid 220 a week for 2 days a week. CRAZY. If you can keep your kids out of it definitely do so.
Another thing that's screwing people is the rapid inflation we've been going through since 1999. So like people think things will go back down or stabilize then all of a sudden another market crash, rapid inflation and stagnating wages. I do contract work for the government and my pay has been the same for the past 4 years. 34$ and hour but the price of food has sky rocketed within the past four years. Imagine if I had had an unplanned pregnancy during that time.
My child was very planned in like with finances but then the pandemic hit and inflation went crazy. We manage but there are many of us that knew the cost to raise a child but no one expected a global pandemic to hit and then wars and politically instability...raising the costs of everything.

Then people want to be angry at the reasons women opt out of having kids. I'm too cheap, they're expensive. I am selfish why would anyone like myself have kids, and I enjoy my sleep and I don't have to share anything with anyone if I choose not to. I can get up and go without worry. When you choose to be a parent this comes with it.

Early childhood educator here 🙋🏽♀️. I help run an in-home daycare. We only have 1-2 infants at a time with 5-6 toddlers/pre-schoolers. We can have 14 kids in our facility but keep it small. All our parents know each other (friends or coworkers), so the kiddos become family and grow up together. We only close on major holidays or if there is an emergency and are open from 7am-530pm with meals included. We offer a learning curriculum and prepare the kids to enter t-k or kindergarten. We don’t cost over $1400.00 a month and according to our parents we are the cheapest that they could fine.
so i use to work at a day care where some students were either part time or full time. i think if i remember that the prices go up the older your child got by the year or developmental stage ( i think it's the age though) an for an infant to start was 500 or 800 till they were in Pre-K and then it was 1200 or 1500 a month. As far as i know teachers only got paid 10-13 an hour and those were 9 hour shifts, sometimes more since teachers would constantly get sick due to being exposed to so many germs and the stress did not help. i was only getting 10.50 an hour and i was working Preschool, Pre-K, and after school students and had to buy my own supplies for most of the stuff i was teaching or get creative and use a lot of scraps. somedays a i had almost 25 student's in a cramped room where it only took one child who was uncooperative to get the whole group crazy. i can honestly say its insane and the teachers are definitely underpaid for what they have to do work with daily. if a teacher has a child enrolled in the school they at least got half off but just like everyone else, a down payment had to be put down to save a place in a waiting list. it wasn't even guaranteed that your child would be enrolled in the time you want. oh i thing it was a 1200 downpayment to save your place if I'm correct which i think was nonrefundable. ps don't take this too seriously as i just wanted to go on own tangent for a bit about my experience of daycares.
i’m just confused about why these people didn’t look into this before having kids. like did they not see the pattern? the pattern of prices increasing each year? some people really just see kids as an access to post online and it’s disgusting
We live in a capitalist system so worrying about your pockets is worrying about your kids basically. SAHM isn’t really a possibility for most people in the USA
Where I live here in north east Scotland, there’s nothing. No after school clubs, no childminders. In my case, if you don’t have family you’re on your own! Even nurseries are part time (unless they have additional support needs, they get more). Basically I’m stuck working part time while the kids are at school so my husband can work full time 🤷🏻♀️
To avoid paying daycare, I worked overnight while my husband stayed home with our 2 boys. Then he worked in the daytime. They're 12 and 9 now, and nothing has changed. I still work overnight 😂
People say childcare is expensive, but.... I'm just doing the math and if a nanny watching one child in the family home makes $766 per week - 5 days a week, 8 hours per day.... that's $19.15 an hour. Let's even make it 9 hours to account for the fact that a) you would arrive before the parents leave for work to receive any updates about the child's health ('baby got an ear infection overnight and needs meds on a schedule.'), any planned itineraries, etc. and b) if the parents have a 30 minute commute, they need a few minutes to themselves to unwind and start preparing dinner before they can dedicate undivided attention to baby. So a 9 hour day would be $17.02 an hour. This $766 per week does not state whether it's pre-tax or post-tax. I"m going to assume pre-tax, and that the sitter is self-employed, and therefore on a 1099, so... in my state of MD after all deductions for taxes (state, fed, local, social security, and medicare), you are left with $597. Per month, you can expect to make $2,388 post-tax. If you're not a live-in nanny, you are paying rent. In order to be within the safe bracket where you would be approved for rent, you would need to find housing that is no more than $860. So, a 1-bed/1-bath or a studio. Rent, transportation, basic food staples, utilities... never mind private health insurance, or contributing to a ROTH IRA or brokerage. That's out of reach. $2K doesn't stretch far in a HCOL area. I would bet you my last dollar that none of these parents complaining would voluntarily do the job for that pay if they had to live alone and didn't have a 2nd income to bolster them.
No one in the video complained about a nanny since it's obviously the most expensive option that most can't afford. They are complaining about their understandable hard situation, not working to stay with the kid and only depending on one parent income (I this economy?) or to work, and barely being able to afford it. Especially that daycare is only one of many needs, and the fact that single parents won't be able to handle it. The issue is with the country as a whole to be so pro childbearing while not assisting with any of their needs.
@@JJ-gi1dimy aunt and uncle had live in nannies for $100 a week. Why? Because they provided the housing (which is still rich, I'm not saying it's cheap to house someone for free) but they provided all the utilities and everything. This enabled them to have a regular nanny that loved being there for their kids. Sometimes providing a room for a nanny just takes a little shuffling around. It's hard when renting or not having enough space, but it can be done cheaply if you're smart about it. Most European families do it this way. I'd highly recommend it!
As someone who doesn’t have children and doesn’t live in the US, I am aware of how expensive childcare is, so why haven’t these people done their research? Also, they get some of it back in taxes, it happens here where I live too. Tired of this particular subject because a) no one does anything about it and b) they aren’t telling the whole story! I also find it really strange that people have babies to put them in a strangers care 🤔
That lady who leaves her 2 under 3 with someone 12 hours a day just sounds wild to me so what she spends like 2 hours a night with them then go to sleep? Lol
These prices are insane!!! I was born in 91 In Texas so I remember both me and my brother being in daycare with a local church and I don't think my parents paid any more than 500$ PER MONTH! My mom didn't work at the time and my dad worked in maintenance for Mary Kay and he could afford daycare for two kids and have a stay at home wife and we were not rich. This is insane!!!! And so unfair!!! Me and my husband don't have a child yet and I'm grateful for social media and parents sharing their stories because it really has helped us reevaluate our situation so we can prepare and plan better. With that said my husband is Chinese so we have family to help us care for a child in those early stages. A lot of Americans don't have that family structure so that drives up the costs and difficulty in raising children. Edit to add child care workers absolutely deserve a comfortable liveable wage for their area. The problem is th insane cost of living/inflation/stagnating wages all around for us normal working people.
I am so blessed to have family members who don’t mind watching my son. My fiancé and I recently had baby (10/13) thankfully I’m still off work until January (without pay cause i took an extra month off) and we have coordinated it where we would have opposite days off and very little overlap in our working hours so we can have care for our child. It’s crazy to know how much childcare cost in this country. I guess if you really break it down it makes sense the price some people are charged. But then again like we heard in Morgan’s explanation, the childcare workers are not paid a wage that is livable. So where is the money going? Especially if it’s a facility that is watching like 20+ kids. Most daycares around me don’t even teach the kids anything they just “watch” them. Idk it’s crazy to me and I feel bad for people that are in a situation where it’s either you gotta work or you gotta stay home. Not only that but there are very few (entry level that is) work from home jobs that allow you to have your child be at home with you. Something has got to change!
I don’t know if this is still the standard,however,if you are a registered day care provider,you are giving a stipend per child for providing food,basically W.I.C. from the government. I use to help out my friend who took care of 8 kids a day and that was 39 years ago and she received X amount of dollars per child each month. Flip side of that coin,if you truly desire to have a family then you’re gonna have to suck it up and pay,it’s your choice. Being a day care provider is not an easy job,they’re not doing it for their health,their providing a service and deserve a living wage as much as the women who are going outside to have a career.

The system isn't built for single and childfree people, people with disabilities, you name it. I've always found it odd to be aware of systems and systemic issues at play and yet, people STILL choose to reproduce and then blame the government. I hate the government too, the system, all of it. However, I don't understand how "the system"/government is at fault when the two people in question decide to lay down, "do the do" and reproduce as a result (*NOT including SA victims!*).
If I were younger, I'd also use another method too. Double up the protection!!! Glad my tubes were blocked and now I'm perimenopausal!!! 😅 Sadly loads of physicians won't let a woman get sterilized until a certain age. 🤔I know i tried, I finally found a wonderful physician that did the Essure procedure on me in my 30's (no children) most still wouldn't do it!! $500 for one day of daycare for 4 kids doesn't sound unreasonable. $125 is just over 8 hours being paid minimum wage. Maybe a discount could be given for multiples of kids but daycare workers deserve to be paid. Edit: I should've waited, the second woman is even worse. So she's complaining about paying $350 a week for someone to watch her lids from 6am to 6pm, with breakfast and lunch and snacks provided... $350 for 36 hours of work is $9 an hour if we don't include the food costs The son is older so he's cheaper, but like... do these people just not want childcare workers to be paid??
@@BabyKush420 It's really 50/50 whether dinner is provided or not. It's not uncommon for people to have dinner at 7pm or beyond, so.... I mean these parents can give all the "I think daycare workers should get paid!" disclaimers they want, but ultimately what they're saying is "I don't wanna be the one to pay them" I mean maybe we can discuss taxes being put toward a national childcare system, because this IS the next generation and if people (men) want to complain about the falling birthrates, then they can put their money where their mouth is and fix the issue by paying their taxes to help raise the next generation.... Oh... Oh, no, they want women to foot the bill because they know having a kid makes women financially vulnerable to her husband. The fact that women cannot financially survive with kids without a husband is a FEATURE, not a bug. But these women gotta take their frustration out on those who are actually responsible. the internet be bagging on single mothers so much lately (mostly from bitter lonely men) but I seriously feel so much for them. Imagine having no choice but to put your kids in childcare because you need to work but most of your cheque if not ALL goes towards childcare? also don’t come at me with the child support bs. I have a friend who has 3 children from 3 different baby daddies (yes I know, she had a rough past) and none of them pay child support, and they face no legal consequences. A lot of these single mothers are on their own while the fathers screw off and live their lives. This shit ain’t fair.
I lived in Manhattan. The daycare where my job gave me a 20% discount for my baby was $3200/month for 5 days/week and $2k for 2 day/week. Out of my income after taxes! No, each kid didn't get a unicorn and a stack of cash. It was a regular ass daycare. No backyard bc Times Square. While I could pay, yeah... NOPE! I ended up moving to a big city in Europe and let me tell you: DAYCARE IS FREE! And I'm talking about the kind of place that the crunchy wealthy moms from brownstones in Brooklyn or the Upper West Side would gladly pay 5K/month for each kid. Huge yard, parks, cooking, art, music classes etc My child is only 2 yo so i don't even know everything they do there yet. Only con is it starts at 1 yo but guess what? Maternity leave is 1 year! Sure the salaries here are lower but we are talking about $50k for chilcare PER CHILD. I have a new baby now that would be 100k per year (before income taxes)! No the 2k per child you get back for child credit from the IRS doesn't do ish! My neighbor had a home daycare for 1k/month/child. That would still be ~25k/year and she was doing it in a 500sqft 1 bedroom apartment. We have the same floor plan so I know how tiny it was and her apt wasn't even renovated yet like mine. But that would still be the best/most affordable/convenient option for me had I stayed in NYC. I was lucky, I could move. When Americans will understand how much they are getting screwed over... I hope it won't be too late for the country.
All I got out of this is that people are dumb as fuck and make kids before they even research how much it costs to have one so now they're crying on the internet for sympathy about a choice THEY made themselves.
Don't have kids that you can't take care of (childcare, food, healthcare, etc). Why are people so surprised at how expensive children's are? I don't agree with how much they're being charged, especially when most of these childcare places/caregivers are not even qualified to look after children/ the number of kids they accept. If anything, this is a good reason to make sure you can take care of your kids.
Idk how to fix this issue, I was a day care teacher for 2 years and when I say the pay is unfair, I mean it. The amount of work your expected to do for basically minimum wage is other worldly. The owner basically made no money at all and all the teachers were either college kids doing it as a summer job or retired older women who picked up the job for fun. The entire thing top to bottom is unfair. Daycare workers need a salary too.
I have a 2 yr old and currently expecting my second in March. I stay home and work part-time remotely while my husband works full-time. It was honestly the best decision we could have made for our family. I would have been working full-time just to pay childcare for my 2 yr old I couldn’t even imagine with 2 children. I also love being able to spend all day with my child/being a mom!
The city I live in doesn’t have enough childcare facilities. I wanted to go back to work a couple of years ago, but the waitlists were forever long. I’m a social worker with a masters and would barely make enough to be worth the tuition in the first place, but I felt like I needed to go back to stop stalling out my own career. We finally found a preschool accepting when he was 4 this year. They had 3 days/week available for 4.5 hours on those days. It costs $375/month with no food included. It is not enough time to work… the other families sending their kids are splitting which shift each parent works and barely sleeping. I cannot go back to work with those hours. We gave up. He’s attending for education purposes, making this even more of a strain. We live in a mid sized city and this is happening. It’s really scary. We’re lucky that we’ve been able to make it work, but we have been very concerned for other families. Our family has obviously taken a huge hit financially too. There’s also the fact that I am a well-educated professional that cannot be in the workforce, which effects the economy as a whole when this is happening to all families with kids.
My partner is a state college teacher, we have free daycare. Also, these daycares are top notch with pediatrician, nurses, nutricionists, psychologist etc on site. They're provided by the state for people that work for the state which is a lot of people.
This will likely be an unpopular opinion but…. Many of those moms were sitting in NICE looking cars. How much are those nice car loans/leases costing you per month? I guarantee it’s 500-1000K per month…. And some of the homes they are in also look nice. How expensive is the rent or mortgage? What are these people’s priorities? Why not move to a low cost area and stay home with the kid until it is old enough to go to school? All I’m saying is, unless you are filthy rich, you cannot have it all. Nothing in life is free. Also - childcare costs are high because they are literally raising your children, not just babysitting them. They are being the children’s proxy mother for you! Also, think about all the regulatory hoops they must jump through and how high their insurance costs must be. But I for sure can see them also taking advantage of parents…
How in the insanity do people in the USA afford children?? I can't afford children and I live in Australia... Childcare cost here: South Australia is roughly $115-$130 per child per full day. However, depending on your income our government gives a subsidy. The subsidy can range from 50-90% based on your household earnings - if you earn $40,000 a year you may receive majority of your costs back. It is not a good as some countries but I am greatful people have this here.

Yeah the cost is insanely high while our wages don’t reflect it. Here in Dallas they are still offering 9-15 an hour for most daycare jobs. It’s slavery.
As someone whose worked with kids the whole price of childcare goes towards the building, insurance for broken or damage items, cover if there's an accident (which never covers anyways but you need it or you can get a legal issue and business tax. You also need to account for the children's food, drink water costs or sanitary items if it's in a day care not just at home people. In a day care they also need to pay the workers too on top of that if your a single working career they get pretty much less because they get paid cheaper and without help so they can't take as many children.
I don’t believe they’re factoring in the fact that people are tired of dealing with their kid’s bad temperaments as well. It’s well known the younger generations are HORRIBLE and their parents don’t care.
My child was in day care for only 4 hours 3 days a week and it was over 1500 a month. I live in Orange County CA so that’s probably why, BUT for a Kiddie Academy it was TERRIBLE! Kids spit in my daughters food, teachers would ignore her and have her raise her hand for 5+ minutes while two teachers are having conversations next to her, and the last straw was seeing my daughter getting attacked by boys and then seeing her crash out and start to chase one boy and attack him. I saw all this on the live video that was provided within their website. But we were only allowed to watch for 30 minutes. No more.
What is actually insane is how much these facilities charge for child care yet pay their employees $8 an hour (I’ve worked in childcare for eight years)
14 years ago I had my son. I was great full that I didn’t need to choose daycare. The company I was working for closed their doors and we were layed off. I wasn’t pregnant at the time , but I wanted to go back to school so July of 09 I started school and the day before I found out I was pregnant. I had enough unemployment that I was able to stay home with my son once he was born and take care of him for at least a full year. By the time I went back to work my mom was gracious enough to care for him when I was. The prices for daycare is unbelievable and didn’t realize the prices today are shocking. Times has changed since I had my kid.
Child care subsidies. The income levels are a lot higher than your normal government assistance and it is absolutely worth it. If you are in a bind and you need help with that, do not feel embarrassed or ashamed to access that resource because that is why it's there.
The cost of quality daycare is crazy. My son did full time pre-K in 2016, so 8 years ago. It was $20K for the year. 😳This was a public daycare that did accept CCDF (childcare assistance) but was probably the top rated daycare in the city that wasn’t a private or parochial/religious program. My parents helped me pay for it. I realize I’m very lucky I had that option. Otherwise he wouldn’t have had any preparation for kindergarten, so I don’t regret asking them and they didn’t regret doing it. However, the crazy part is that I made $7 too much to get public childcare assistance. Seven whole dollars. 😆 Like, I understand there’s a cutoff, but come ON. 😆 Before that, the abuelita next door watched him for like a few dollars per hour and raised him like her own child. Honestly, looking towards your families and communities can often be the best way to find reliable childcare. The only reason I sought a fancy pants preschool was to prep my kiddo for kindergarten. Otherwise he could have stayed next door while I worked. Best of luck to parents trying to work with kids. It’s been amazing since my kiddo started full time school!
In the UK, childcare is like £150 a week...and by age 3, you are entitled to free childcare for a number of weeks in the year. If you can't afford it, there are schemes. My school had a free childcare centre attached to it for parents under a certain income. Eventhough our salaries are much much lower, I didn't realise how much I take for granted the bare minimum welfare we have since my siblings live in other European countries that have a way better system. (Things like compulsory paid leave, maternity AND paternity leave, Healthcare service, pensions, etc...etc...are so important as a _mandated_ national norm. Why live in a society if you have no protections of one?)
I lived in Massachusetts with 3 kids. And that’s how I became a stay at home mom 😂 It was cheaper to stay home with the babies than go to work and pay for childcare.
I’m from Connecticut and although I don’t have kids CT has very wealthy towns like Darien, Greenwich, Fairfield, Farmington/West Hartford, and plenty more. That’s probably why they’re up there for nanny costs.
My advice for people would be to check if your city has neighborhood centers that offer childcare. The rates they have are usually more affordable, and they do take into account income driven rate options.
Is that per week or per month? I send my twin 3.5 yros to Montessori FT in NY for $2700/month/kid. Doing that as a single mom means I don’t have to grapple with the choice whether to leave my job.
I live in FL right now. During a topical storm a driver took out a tower. It cut off data and internet for my area for 3 days. They prorated off 3 days worth of cost. If my internet can take off charges for day they didn't give me service a daycare has zero excuse to close for a week but charge you for it.
I’m in Cleveland Ohio I pay $860 a month for one child but I was quoted $1400 for my daughter just up the street from where she goes now. But I really love it and she is thriving. They go on field trips every week
Why isn't anybody applying for daycare assistance through their state? New York State is giving subsidies to almost everybody if you're a family of 4 and you make less than $108000 you Qualify for daycare assistance they are just giving away the money like I pretty much pushed my families who are principles teachers managers district managers all to try for it and they all are getting full subsidy they qualify for it! It alleviates the stress of having to pay the bill You may have to pay a little portion of it one of my families pays $9 a week for child care! Check into getting child care assistance through your state it is not a shame anymore believe me I run an in home day care it is not a shame to get state assistance ITS FREE MONEY and it helps the day care provider out because they get paid a livable wage per New York State Or your state... Get into it people I promise it will alleviate the stress of having to pay for day care it is not a shame any more to get help from your state when child care is apparently outrageous in other states!!
My goodness, what is wrong with America? Here in Germany you get PAID maternity/paternity leave for up to 3 years (depending on where and your job type). But daycare is about 220€ a month and you get childcare support of 250€ a month from the government until your kid is 25 years old. Having a kid is stressful enough, additional financial burdens shouldn't be one of those stresses.
15 an hour is standard. I’m a babysitter and I also work as an exec assistant for a preschool business and all these prices are insane compared to mine and the business I work for
It’s difficult with childcare because good ones cost more, that’s just how it is. I know in the UK, they’re expensive but the workers aren’t paid very much at all for all the work they do. They are the first part of your child’s schooling and they don’t just play with them all day. Everything has a purpose and they review and report everything they do and what areas it’s teaching your child etc. it’s sad they don’t get paid a lot as they’re so important and the worst combination you can have, is an underpaid caregiver. If you don’t HAVE to work, don’t. Stay with your children, they’re only little once but childcare is very good for socialising and independence and the start to their school life so even a little time here and there is beneficial.
These prices are insane!!! If a person watches 5 kids a day they should be getting $600 or $800 a day between all of them. Roughly 3,500 for those kids alone for basic service. But the more upscale the service the more the person should charge. Basic service is safety, lunch, and playtime with a few learning activities throughout the day.
I am from The Netherlands.. I refuse to pay so much for child care that I have to work more for it 😅 I work in child care myself, but my kids can go home with their father and one day their grandmother takes care of them. Next to this job I work freelance and am in city council, which mostly is in evening hours while the kids sleep. With this I can be at home for my own kids 3 afternoons a week... When they are at school I do the freelance work and preparations for the city council. I work 2 days in the child care... This was the best option for our family, I want to raise my own kids ❤ (My husband works 4 days a week). So one day he is at home for the kids. To add, when they didn't go to school jet, I didn't work in childcare, I only worked the evenings and some freelance work at home. Our daughter went to daycare once a week (I now work for this company). This was about 300 euro a month. The Dutch government refunds a bit depending on your income.
It’s really hard to keep working at my daycare, I barely get $200 a week. But it’s amazing for experience when I’m a full time education major. But learning that parents are paying $500-$800 per kid every week when I make $12 an hour was hard
I wasn't planning to be a mom (beyond the fur mom I am) but this is making me want kids even less. I love my career, no way I'm giving it up for a child and these prices expect that of me.
Child care basically led me to homelessness, one thing that helped me find stability was when they started school and I taught them independence very young. Single parent programs and income based programs exist though so don’t let your pride keep you from using that option

I had to go to work to spend all my wage on childcare (8 years ago in the UK). It was part-time work. I can't remember how much it cost; I just remember I was on plus maybe 20 pounds weekly. I was sending my daughter to have a better and easier transition from work to school.
Childcare is very expensive and the more kids a family has the more it will be and depending on the state the cost will vary. Some facilities/in home centers have daily rates that families can pay by the day which can be cheaper. I work for a childcare subsidy program and the prices are wild . The cost for an infant needing full time care vs a school age child is drastic . You will def be paying rent times 2 with childcare these days .
100% why I only have one child. We asked our current daycare how much of a discount we would get for a second child and it was like maybe $10 off 😭 they wonder why no one is having children and the population is declining 🤔

For context with that last woman, Montessori is not any old daycare. That is ultra-high-end education that has an extremely good reputation for one-on-one attention and care. They provide the best of the best hybrid when it comes to caring for children and extensive education. They cannot be compared to absolutely any other daycare out there. They are world-renowned. It's not even about California. It's Montessori all over. It's very, very good and worth every dollar.

You would think, but nope. Back when I worked at a daycare I made maybe $9/hr. Maybe. The center I worked at charged based on their age. They started at $400/week for 6 weeks to a year. That’s $20,800/year. We had one family that had triplets in our care. This by the way was almost 15 years ago.
And this is why I have a cat. Although, daycare for him is about $40 a day. It’s a good thing he can stay home alone most of the time 😂

A relative of mine and her husband are both working and in a serious amount of debt. They have 2 children and were gonna pay $4,000 a month at a 24hr daycare. They were complaining about the price but they work from 6:30am to 6:30p meaning they’re with their children from early morning to late evening. That’s a lot of work for those daycare employees, Monday - Friday.

A lot of children in daycare are there full time, seeing the daycare workers more than they see their parents. If you think of how exhausted parents are with one baby, imagine up to 8 babies with 2 teachers to care for them (10+hrs a day) Any young kids for that matter. It is a taxing job and the burnout is real. It seems a lot of people are having kids without researching what that would mean for their finances. Doing research after the child/ren are already here isn’t good enough. By that point you just have to try your best to survive even if you’re not making enough to pay for it. I feel bad for the struggling parents, but I also feel bad for the daycare workers who are raising these kids and still don’t get paid enough despite parents paying what they are.
I don't get how a mother could be fine with her baby seeing daycare workers more than they see her. Same for fathers obviously, but the mother literally carries and gives birth to her child, just to hand the child off to strangers and barely see her own child.

Nothing is free.🤷🏾♀️ I’ve also found that “maternal instinct” is a myth, so mothers aren’t necessarily more likely to feel more connected to their children after birth than the father. Unfortunately we can see this by looking at the people who turned out to be not so good parents.
I think having four kids that need daycare is an absolute insane amount of young kids to have. If you don’t like the price, someone else wants to charge then just stay home and open your own daycare.

Montessori isn't daycare🤣, they are literally training and teaching your kids from a very young age fully-immersed in a very controlled setting, like everything is thought through, they are teaching your kids basically how to tidy up after themselves, manners, English, maths, etc etc, all from a very young age. Montessori is a specialised school that very young children can attend as well, not 'daycare'.
This is exactly why my husband and I worked opposite shifts. It was a sacrifice. It sucked. But it was a temporary solution until preschool
I was a preschool teacher for 12 years. I quit 4 years ago. I was making $11.25 an hour. I had to get 10 hours of unpaid continuing education a year. I have a bachelor's degree in education. The money isn't going to the teachers.

Imagine your the person taking care of a child and getting paid only $125 a week. Alot wouldn’t do it. So many people are out of touch about child care. As someone who worked at a daycare, let me tell you, it’s not for everyone and a HUGE responsibility. If anything daycare workers are under pay. Don’t forget you are still paying them for their time to be there.
I would also say, there is people who SHOULD NOT be working at a daycare but they do. (maybe be because there’s a shortage idk) Not everyone has patience for every child. There’s children with disabilities that daycare workers are not trained for. Not to mention there parent who are in denial and refused to get help.
I had a coworker had to do CPR on one child once, had to call an ambulance. If she didn’t just random check the child while she was napping, at that exact moment, who know what would have happened. That responsibility would have falling over my coworker. Point made is it’s a huge responsibility. We are talking about little one here who cant defend themselves and most still can’t talking. One or two adults taking care for many of them at once.
I have a 4 year now and I refused to go back to work till I knew he can communicate with me and is independent enough. By the grace for God we made it work. Sacrifices had to be made but it was worth it. I understand it’s hard out there but please concern if it’s hard for you out there, it’s hard for daycare workers as well.
Yeah…I had a hard time watching this video. I worked in daycare for about 8 yrs and it is so much work. I saw those babies way more hours than the parents did, felt like I was raising them myself. The prices are that way in order to pay daycare workers a living wage and usually they still live paycheck to paycheck. Not to mention the burnout. It seems that people are just having kids without researching what that means for their family financially. I feel bad for them, but that’s not the daycare’s fault.

Daycare honestly sucks in general. My son was in one of the best daycares in the area when he was 1 and we pulled him out after 5 week. He wasn’t even there half the time because he was sick. He cried and cried and cried all day. One of the days he went through WHOLE DAY without eating or drinking anything and they didn’t even tell us until we picked him up. Got sick 3 times in those 5 weeks. He just wanted us or his grand parents. Thought it would be beneficial that he would have other kids to play with but most kids under 3 don’t even play with each other. Complete waste of money, time, and tears. We paid 220 a week for 2 days a week. CRAZY. If you can keep your kids out of it definitely do so.

Another thing that's screwing people is the rapid inflation we've been going through since 1999. So like people think things will go back down or stabilize then all of a sudden another market crash, rapid inflation and stagnating wages. I do contract work for the government and my pay has been the same for the past 4 years. 34$ and hour but the price of food has sky rocketed within the past four years. Imagine if I had had an unplanned pregnancy during that time.
My child was very planned in like with finances but then the pandemic hit and inflation went crazy. We manage but there are many of us that knew the cost to raise a child but no one expected a global pandemic to hit and then wars and politically instability...raising the costs of everything.

I am selfish why would anyone like myself have kids, and I enjoy my sleep and I don't have to share anything with anyone if I choose not to. I can get up and go without worry. When you choose to be a parent this comes with it.

Early childhood educator here 🙋🏽♀️. I help run an in-home daycare. We only have 1-2 infants at a time with 5-6 toddlers/pre-schoolers. We can have 14 kids in our facility but keep it small. All our parents know each other (friends or coworkers), so the kiddos become family and grow up together. We only close on major holidays or if there is an emergency and are open from 7am-530pm with meals included. We offer a learning curriculum and prepare the kids to enter t-k or kindergarten. We don’t cost over $1400.00 a month and according to our parents we are the cheapest that they could fine.
so i use to work at a day care where some students were either part time or full time. i think if i remember that the prices go up the older your child got by the year or developmental stage ( i think it's the age though) an for an infant to start was 500 or 800 till they were in Pre-K and then it was 1200 or 1500 a month. As far as i know teachers only got paid 10-13 an hour and those were 9 hour shifts, sometimes more since teachers would constantly get sick due to being exposed to so many germs and the stress did not help. i was only getting 10.50 an hour and i was working Preschool, Pre-K, and after school students and had to buy my own supplies for most of the stuff i was teaching or get creative and use a lot of scraps. somedays a i had almost 25 student's in a cramped room where it only took one child who was uncooperative to get the whole group crazy. i can honestly say its insane and the teachers are definitely underpaid for what they have to do work with daily. if a teacher has a child enrolled in the school they at least got half off but just like everyone else, a down payment had to be put down to save a place in a waiting list. it wasn't even guaranteed that your child would be enrolled in the time you want. oh i thing it was a 1200 downpayment to save your place if I'm correct which i think was nonrefundable.

Where I live here in north east Scotland, there’s nothing. No after school clubs, no childminders. In my case, if you don’t have family you’re on your own! Even nurseries are part time (unless they have additional support needs, they get more).
Basically I’m stuck working part time while the kids are at school so my husband can work full time 🤷🏻♀️

To avoid paying daycare, I worked overnight while my husband stayed home with our 2 boys. Then he worked in the daytime. They're 12 and 9 now, and nothing has changed. I still work overnight 😂

I'm just doing the math and if a nanny watching one child in the family home makes $766 per week - 5 days a week, 8 hours per day.... that's $19.15 an hour.
Let's even make it 9 hours to account for the fact that a) you would arrive before the parents leave for work to receive any updates about the child's health ('baby got an ear infection overnight and needs meds on a schedule.'), any planned itineraries, etc. and b) if the parents have a 30 minute commute, they need a few minutes to themselves to unwind and start preparing dinner before they can dedicate undivided attention to baby. So a 9 hour day would be $17.02 an hour.
This $766 per week does not state whether it's pre-tax or post-tax. I"m going to assume pre-tax, and that the sitter is self-employed, and therefore on a 1099, so... in my state of MD after all deductions for taxes (state, fed, local, social security, and medicare), you are left with $597. Per month, you can expect to make $2,388 post-tax. If you're not a live-in nanny, you are paying rent. In order to be within the safe bracket where you would be approved for rent, you would need to find housing that is no more than $860. So, a 1-bed/1-bath or a studio. Rent, transportation, basic food staples, utilities... never mind private health insurance, or contributing to a ROTH IRA or brokerage. That's out of reach. $2K doesn't stretch far in a HCOL area. I would bet you my last dollar that none of these parents complaining would voluntarily do the job for that pay if they had to live alone and didn't have a 2nd income to bolster them.
No one in the video complained about a nanny since it's obviously the most expensive option that most can't afford. They are complaining about their understandable hard situation, not working to stay with the kid and only depending on one parent income (I this economy?) or to work, and barely being able to afford it. Especially that daycare is only one of many needs, and the fact that single parents won't be able to handle it. The issue is with the country as a whole to be so pro childbearing while not assisting with any of their needs.
@@JJ-gi1dimy aunt and uncle had live in nannies for $100 a week. Why? Because they provided the housing (which is still rich, I'm not saying it's cheap to house someone for free) but they provided all the utilities and everything. This enabled them to have a regular nanny that loved being there for their kids.
Sometimes providing a room for a nanny just takes a little shuffling around. It's hard when renting or not having enough space, but it can be done cheaply if you're smart about it. Most European families do it this way. I'd highly recommend it!
As someone who doesn’t have children and doesn’t live in the US, I am aware of how expensive childcare is, so why haven’t these people done their research? Also, they get some of it back in taxes, it happens here where I live too. Tired of this particular subject because a) no one does anything about it and b) they aren’t telling the whole story! I also find it really strange that people have babies to put them in a strangers care 🤔

These prices are insane!!! I was born in 91 In Texas so I remember both me and my brother being in daycare with a local church and I don't think my parents paid any more than 500$ PER MONTH! My mom didn't work at the time and my dad worked in maintenance for Mary Kay and he could afford daycare for two kids and have a stay at home wife and we were not rich. This is insane!!!! And so unfair!!! Me and my husband don't have a child yet and I'm grateful for social media and parents sharing their stories because it really has helped us reevaluate our situation so we can prepare and plan better. With that said my husband is Chinese so we have family to help us care for a child in those early stages. A lot of Americans don't have that family structure so that drives up the costs and difficulty in raising children.
Edit to add child care workers absolutely deserve a comfortable liveable wage for their area. The problem is th insane cost of living/inflation/stagnating wages all around for us normal working people.
There are state regulations. I doubt it's legal to have a newborn and 8-10 children in the care of a single person.

I am so blessed to have family members who don’t mind watching my son. My fiancé and I recently had baby (10/13) thankfully I’m still off work until January (without pay cause i took an extra month off) and we have coordinated it where we would have opposite days off and very little overlap in our working hours so we can have care for our child. It’s crazy to know how much childcare cost in this country. I guess if you really break it down it makes sense the price some people are charged. But then again like we heard in Morgan’s explanation, the childcare workers are not paid a wage that is livable. So where is the money going? Especially if it’s a facility that is watching like 20+ kids. Most daycares around me don’t even teach the kids anything they just “watch” them. Idk it’s crazy to me and I feel bad for people that are in a situation where it’s either you gotta work or you gotta stay home. Not only that but there are very few (entry level that is) work from home jobs that allow you to have your child be at home with you. Something has got to change!
I don’t know if this is still the standard,however,if you are a registered day care provider,you are giving a stipend per child for providing food,basically W.I.C. from the government. I use to help out my friend who took care of 8 kids a day and that was 39 years ago and she received X amount of dollars per child each month. Flip side of that coin,if you truly desire to have a family then you’re gonna have to suck it up and pay,it’s your choice. Being a day care provider is not an easy job,they’re not doing it for their health,their providing a service and deserve a living wage as much as the women who are going outside to have a career.

I've always found it odd to be aware of systems and systemic issues at play and yet, people STILL choose to reproduce and then blame the government. I hate the government too, the system, all of it. $125 is just over 8 hours being paid minimum wage. Maybe a discount could be given for multiples of kids but daycare workers deserve to be paid.
Edit: I should've waited, the second woman is even worse. So she's complaining about paying $350 a week for someone to watch her lids from 6am to 6pm, with breakfast and lunch and snacks provided... $350 for 36 hours of work is $9 an hour if we don't include the food costs

I lived in Manhattan. The daycare where my job gave me a 20% discount for my baby was $3200/month for 5 days/week and $2k for 2 day/week. Out of my income after taxes! No, each kid didn't get a unicorn and a stack of cash. It was a regular ass daycare. No backyard bc Times Square. While I could pay, yeah... NOPE!
I ended up moving to a big city in Europe and let me tell you: DAYCARE IS FREE! And I'm talking about the kind of place that the crunchy wealthy moms from brownstones in Brooklyn or the Upper West Side would gladly pay 5K/month for each kid. Huge yard, parks, cooking, art, music classes etc My child is only 2 yo so i don't even know everything they do there yet. Only con is it starts at 1 yo but guess what? Maternity leave is 1 year! Sure the salaries here are lower but we are talking about $50k for chilcare PER CHILD. I have a new baby now that would be 100k per year (before income taxes)! No the 2k per child you get back for child credit from the IRS doesn't do ish! My neighbor had a home daycare for 1k/month/child. That would still be ~25k/year and she was doing it in a 500sqft 1 bedroom apartment. We have the same floor plan so I know how tiny it was and her apt wasn't even renovated yet like mine. But that would still be the best/most affordable/convenient option for me had I stayed in NYC.
I was lucky, I could move. When Americans will understand how much they are getting screwed over... I hope it won't be too late for the country.

Don't have kids that you can't take care of (childcare, food, healthcare, etc). Why are people so surprised at how expensive children's are? I don't agree with how much they're being charged, especially when most of these childcare places/caregivers are not even qualified to look after children/ the number of kids they accept. If anything, this is a good reason to make sure you can take care of your kids.

Idk how to fix this issue, I was a day care teacher for 2 years and when I say the pay is unfair, I mean it. The amount of work your expected to do for basically minimum wage is other worldly. The owner basically made no money at all and all the teachers were either college kids doing it as a summer job or retired older women who picked up the job for fun.
The entire thing top to bottom is unfair. Daycare workers need a salary too.
I have a 2 yr old and currently expecting my second in March. I stay home and work part-time remotely while my husband works full-time. It was honestly the best decision we could have made for our family. I would have been working full-time just to pay childcare for my 2 yr old I couldn’t even imagine with 2 children. I also love being able to spend all day with my child/being a mom!

The city I live in doesn’t have enough childcare facilities. I wanted to go back to work a couple of years ago, but the waitlists were forever long. I’m a social worker with a masters and would barely make enough to be worth the tuition in the first place, but I felt like I needed to go back to stop stalling out my own career. We finally found a preschool accepting when he was 4 this year. They had 3 days/week available for 4.5 hours on those days. It costs $375/month with no food included. It is not enough time to work… the other families sending their kids are splitting which shift each parent works and barely sleeping. I cannot go back to work with those hours. We gave up. He’s attending for education purposes, making this even more of a strain. We live in a mid sized city and this is happening. It’s really scary. We’re lucky that we’ve been able to make it work, but we have been very concerned for other families. Our family has obviously taken a huge hit financially too. There’s also the fact that I am a well-educated professional that cannot be in the workforce, which effects the economy as a whole when this is happening to all families with kids.

My partner is a state college teacher, we have free daycare. Also, these daycares are top notch with pediatrician, nurses, nutricionists, psychologist etc on site. They're provided by the state for people that work for the state which is a lot of people.
This will likely be an unpopular opinion but…. Many of those moms were sitting in NICE looking cars. How much are those nice car loans/leases costing you per month? I guarantee it’s 500-1000K per month…. And some of the homes they are in also look nice. How expensive is the rent or mortgage? What are these people’s priorities? Why not move to a low cost area and stay home with the kid until it is old enough to go to school?
All I’m saying is, unless you are filthy rich, you cannot have it all. Nothing in life is free.
Also - childcare costs are high because they are literally raising your children, not just babysitting them. They are being the children’s proxy mother for you! Also, think about all the regulatory hoops they must jump through and how high their insurance costs must be. But I for sure can see them also taking advantage of parents…

Childcare cost here: South Australia is roughly $115-$130 per child per full day. However, depending on your income our government gives a subsidy. The subsidy can range from 50-90% based on your household earnings - if you earn $40,000 a year you may receive majority of your costs back. It is not a good as some countries but I am greatful people have this here.

As someone whose worked with kids the whole price of childcare goes towards the building, insurance for broken or damage items, cover if there's an accident (which never covers anyways but you need it or you can get a legal issue and business tax. You also need to account for the children's food, drink water costs or sanitary items if it's in a day care not just at home people. In a day care they also need to pay the workers too on top of that if your a single working career they get pretty much less because they get paid cheaper and without help so they can't take as many children.
They had the kid(s) so can’t say I fully sympathise. Especially the first mom, with 4 kids!

My child was in day care for only 4 hours 3 days a week and it was over 1500 a month. I live in Orange County CA so that’s probably why, BUT for a Kiddie Academy it was TERRIBLE! Kids spit in my daughters food, teachers would ignore her and have her raise her hand for 5+ minutes while two teachers are having conversations next to her, and the last straw was seeing my daughter getting attacked by boys and then seeing her crash out and start to chase one boy and attack him. I saw all this on the live video that was provided within their website. But we were only allowed to watch for 30 minutes. No more.
What is actually insane is how much these facilities charge for child care yet pay their employees $8 an hour (I’ve worked in childcare for eight years)
14 years ago I had my son. I was great full that I didn’t need to choose daycare. The company I was working for closed their doors and we were layed off. I wasn’t pregnant at the time , but I wanted to go back to school so July of 09 I started school and the day before I found out I was pregnant. I had enough unemployment that I was able to stay home with my son once he was born and take care of him for at least a full year. By the time I went back to work my mom was gracious enough to care for him when I was. The prices for daycare is unbelievable and didn’t realize the prices today are shocking. Times has changed since I had my kid.
Child care subsidies. The income levels are a lot higher than your normal government assistance and it is absolutely worth it. If you are in a bind and you need help with that, do not feel embarrassed or ashamed to access that resource because that is why it's there.
I hope one day I can stay home with my kids at least part time and thankfully I have a very willing and excited mom to help me out
The cost of quality daycare is crazy. My son did full time pre-K in 2016, so 8 years ago. It was $20K for the year. 😳This was a public daycare that did accept CCDF (childcare assistance) but was probably the top rated daycare in the city that wasn’t a private or parochial/religious program. My parents helped me pay for it. I realize I’m very lucky I had that option. Otherwise he wouldn’t have had any preparation for kindergarten, so I don’t regret asking them and they didn’t regret doing it.
However, the crazy part is that I made $7 too much to get public childcare assistance. Seven whole dollars. 😆 Like, I understand there’s a cutoff, but come ON. 😆 Before that, the abuelita next door watched him for like a few dollars per hour and raised him like her own child. Honestly, looking towards your families and communities can often be the best way to find reliable childcare. The only reason I sought a fancy pants preschool was to prep my kiddo for kindergarten. Otherwise he could have stayed next door while I worked. Best of luck to parents trying to work with kids. It’s been amazing since my kiddo started full time school!
In the UK, childcare is like £150 a week...and by age 3, you are entitled to free childcare for a number of weeks in the year. If you can't afford it, there are schemes. My school had a free childcare centre attached to it for parents under a certain income.
Eventhough our salaries are much much lower, I didn't realise how much I take for granted the bare minimum welfare we have since my siblings live in other European countries that have a way better system.
(Things like compulsory paid leave, maternity AND paternity leave, Healthcare service, pensions, etc...etc...are so important as a _mandated_ national norm. Why live in a society if you have no protections of one?)

I lived in Massachusetts with 3 kids. And that’s how I became a stay at home mom 😂 It was cheaper to stay home with the babies than go to work and pay for childcare.
I’m from Connecticut and although I don’t have kids CT has very wealthy towns like Darien, Greenwich, Fairfield, Farmington/West Hartford, and plenty more. That’s probably why they’re up there for nanny costs.
My advice for people would be to check if your city has neighborhood centers that offer childcare. The rates they have are usually more affordable, and they do take into account income driven rate options.
My husband and I pay $1460 for our 3.5 year olds Montessori school for full time care. They provide snacks but we pack a lunch from home.
Is that per week or per month? I send my twin 3.5 yros to Montessori FT in NY for $2700/month/kid. Doing that as a single mom means I don’t have to grapple with the choice whether to leave my job.
I live in FL right now. During a topical storm a driver took out a tower. It cut off data and internet for my area for 3 days. They prorated off 3 days worth of cost. If my internet can take off charges for day they didn't give me service a daycare has zero excuse to close for a week but charge you for it.
I’m in Cleveland Ohio I pay $860 a month for one child but I was quoted $1400 for my daughter just up the street from where she goes now. But I really love it and she is thriving. They go on field trips every week
Why isn't anybody applying for daycare assistance through their state? New York State is giving subsidies to almost everybody if you're a family of 4 and you make less than $108000 you Qualify for daycare assistance they are just giving away the money like I pretty much pushed my families who are principles teachers managers district managers all to try for it and they all are getting full subsidy they qualify for it! It alleviates the stress of having to pay the bill You may have to pay a little portion of it one of my families pays $9 a week for child care! Check into getting child care assistance through your state it is not a shame anymore believe me I run an in home day care it is not a shame to get state assistance ITS FREE MONEY and it helps the day care provider out because they get paid a livable wage per New York State Or your state... Get into it people I promise it will alleviate the stress of having to pay for day care it is not a shame any more to get help from your state when child care is apparently outrageous in other states!!

My goodness, what is wrong with America? Here in Germany you get PAID maternity/paternity leave for up to 3 years (depending on where and your job type). But daycare is about 220€ a month and you get childcare support of 250€ a month from the government until your kid is 25 years old. Having a kid is stressful enough, additional financial burdens shouldn't be one of those stresses.
15 an hour is standard. I’m a babysitter and I also work as an exec assistant for a preschool business and all these prices are insane compared to mine and the business I work for
It’s difficult with childcare because good ones cost more, that’s just how it is. I know in the UK, they’re expensive but the workers aren’t paid very much at all for all the work they do. They are the first part of your child’s schooling and they don’t just play with them all day. Everything has a purpose and they review and report everything they do and what areas it’s teaching your child etc. it’s sad they don’t get paid a lot as they’re so important and the worst combination you can have, is an underpaid caregiver. If you don’t HAVE to work, don’t. Stay with your children, they’re only little once but childcare is very good for socialising and independence and the start to their school life so even a little time here and there is beneficial.

These prices are insane!!! If a person watches 5 kids a day they should be getting $600 or $800 a day between all of them. Roughly 3,500 for those kids alone for basic service. But the more upscale the service the more the person should charge. Basic service is safety, lunch, and playtime with a few learning activities throughout the day.

I am from The Netherlands.. I refuse to pay so much for child care that I have to work more for it 😅 I work in child care myself, but my kids can go home with their father and one day their grandmother takes care of them. Next to this job I work freelance and am in city council, which mostly is in evening hours while the kids sleep. With this I can be at home for my own kids 3 afternoons a week... When they are at school I do the freelance work and preparations for the city council. I work 2 days in the child care... This was the best option for our family, I want to raise my own kids ❤ (My husband works 4 days a week). So one day he is at home for the kids.

To add, when they didn't go to school jet, I didn't work in childcare, I only worked the evenings and some freelance work at home. Our daughter went to daycare once a week (I now work for this company). This was about 300 euro a month. The Dutch government refunds a bit depending on your income.

Child care basically led me to homelessness, one thing that helped me find stability was when they started school and I taught them independence very young. Single parent programs and income based programs exist though so don’t let your pride keep you from using that option

I had to go to work to spend all my wage on childcare (8 years ago in the UK). It was part-time work. I can't remember how much it cost; I just remember I was on plus maybe 20 pounds weekly. I was sending my daughter to have a better and easier transition from work to school.
Childcare is very expensive and the more kids a family has the more it will be and depending on the state the cost will vary. Some facilities/in home centers have daily rates that families can pay by the day which can be cheaper. I work for a childcare subsidy program and the prices are wild . The cost for an infant needing full time care vs a school age child is drastic . You will def be paying rent times 2 with childcare these days .
