Heroes in History: Highlander

- [NOTE: Normally I open the video with the trailer of the hero...but for some reason, the good folks at Ubisoft decided to COPYRIGHT their trailer, and I wouldn't get monetized for showing it. Yeah...yeah, for real. What's your deal Ubi? This is literally the 3rd time I've had to try uploading it.]
The Highlander is one of my favorite heroes in For Honor and easily one of my favorite Vikings based on weapon and appearance alone. I just wish I were better at playing him. Good thing I have all of these stock images to cover up how bad I am as Highlander. XD
I hope ya'll enjoy this historical video finished WAY later than I planned, about the Highlander and his contribution to history as the Gallowglass. You might just learn something. And to all of you about to come down on me about the "accuracy of the claymore vs the sword Highlander uses" please know that I did EXHAUSTIVE research to find the truth, and the matter is still topic of debate among historians. What is known is that the word claymore translates to large or great sword, and whether or not it initially referred to the basket hilted swords of Scotland or the large long swords is still debated. What I also know is that the great sword Highlander uses IS still too long to be an average claymore, so I will agree with that.
Also, note: that orochi in the meme video? One of the biggest light spammers I've ever fought. His entire strategy revolved around hitting with a light spam and then rolling away before I could hit him. It was so painful.

Thanks for watching!
you missed so many opportunities to quote berserk"it's far too large to be called a sword"
I'm not gonna say it
When David was fleeing Saul he forgot his sword so someone handed him Goliath’s sword I like to think he was like Guts
Massive, thick, heavy, and far too rough. It was far too large to be called a sword, indeed it was like a heap of raw iron.
I see what yah did there
Berserk reference
HAAAAAIIII YAAII FORCES!
I knew there's gonna have a scotland meme here. The moment I see Highlander, I knew at some point there's gotta be a meme somewhere about Scotland
As a Scottish lad myself I do say I am happy my kin are being "accurately" represented.

Claymore simply means great sword, so anything that can be considered a great sword is a claymore. The German zweihander and the Japanese nodachi can both be called a claymore. I'm Scottish so I would know. 🙂
I believe you. I’m just tired of people freaking out in my comments about me “not knowing what a claymore is,” when even they don’t all agree on what it is, so I researched the name and historical usage so there could be no mistake. But, as far as I’m concerned, it’s just a big sword. :)
@@RavenKnightYT alright 🙂
"Orange" simply means "orange", but that doesn't mean every orange fruit is an orange
I am very happy you not only did the "There can be only one" line, but also the "SCOTTLAND FOREVER" line too.
"What do you think of that, Mr. Pajama- Wearing, Basket-Face, Slipper- Wielding, Clype-Dreep- Bachle, Gether-Uping-Blate-Maw, Bleathering, Gomeril, Jessie, Oaf- Looking, Scoonet; Nyaff, Plookie, Shan, Milk-Drinking, Soy-Faced Shilpit, Mim-Moothed, Sniveling, Worm-Eyed, Hotten-Blaugh, Vile- Stoochie, Cally-Breek- Tattie?"

Thing about claymores. A Scot would call Highlander’s sword a Claymore, anyone who isn’t a sword snob would call the highlanders sword a claymore, a Scottish sword snob would call highlanders sword a claymore. Regular sword snobs will keep their nose in the air and fingers in their ears and refuse to believe that Highlander’s sword is a claymore.
Problem with FH claymore is not that it’s too big, this is fine. Problem is that the guard is just not the same classic looking claymore guard. What’s even more strange that you can actually make a lot more realistic looking Gallowglas sword than a claymore.
To my understanding the actual issue, is that the sword blade is too thick and thus not as slow as in game. Definitely being big as it is, I wouldn't necessarily call it fast, but definitely not as slow as the one in the game
in assassins creed vallhalla the picts are easy the most anoyying and hardist thing to fight in the game..other then fenris ... mostly due to the fact that fighting picts is a lot like fighting a mental house that has weapons
The picts were the only enemy group in the game that i actually enjoyed fighting. Every other enemy was boring as hell.
its fun and boring at the same time eivor just can't die
Fighting all the asgardian bosses through the story and mysteries was pain especially because I was on the hardest difficulty starting as a power level 84 and ending 110
You forget The Builder. Guy's a ripe asshole
I don’t remember annoyance per-sae more just utter boredom throughout the whole game, old news but damn Valhalla was disappointing
Hey Raven! I love your videos a lot. I not only learn a lot about for honor, but also about history! Thank you so much for that!
I also wanted to ask if you were planning on doing a heroes of history about tiandi? I’d love to learn more about that!
I plan to do a Heroes in History for every hero, so Tiandi will happen.
@@RavenKnightYT hey, fun fact about the Tiandi meme. It’s sung by the same dude who voices Tiandi
If you could make a Knight, Viking or Samurai warrior in For Honor, what would you make?
Prolly a Mongolian for the Chinese faction
A Viking that actually has armor
@@buklau837 Such as?
A big samurai with kensei armor and a yari

This was also itching at me. I was like "WHAT DO YOU MEAN BRITAIN? THEY'RE ALL BRITAIN" 😂

That's what they are there for!
@@yucatansuckaman5726 what do ya mean that's what the samurai faction is there for in general
Ty for another (another one!) great vid, RK. I believe the FH devs actually used the term "great claymore" for HL's weapon, and this is quite accurate for what we see in the game. I wish HL had a better range on his attacks but oh well.

I know you've been hounded to hell and back for this so I'm glad you were able to finish it and you certainly delivered keep up the good work
YES, the vid about my main. Thank you!
No wonder he loves saying dunmaglass
The sword highlander uses is more like a bearing sword then a even a greatsword. Bearing swords are massive parade swords which were not that practical to fight with anymore because of there massive size and weight. They bassicly took the form of a long or greatsword of the time and scalled it up and decorated it heavely to make it look pretty and impressive. They could way close to 10 kilo's. Apperently they also were used by bodyguards just look up bearing swords you find what I mean.
the chad highlander

this man is so underrated
Shoulda added in the Scottish warrior from Samurai Jack in there. Great vid btw
nice video!!! make one about warlord next! Aramusha is my main but when the need arises to win against very good or toxic teams that is the one I go with! BP is also one of my choices but in the end WL is my ultimate clutch warrior.
Hey Raivin love the vids I was actually wondering if you've considered making any vid on smite if not just a thought 👍
Heroes in History Shaman/Berserker edition? :D
To be fair even if it wasn’t a claymore it wouldn’t be misinformed as the lore has been established and every hero is unnaturally large compared to normal men
two things I want to say,
1; your anglo pronunciation of celtic words is painful, and I'm glad you've gotten better in more recent videos
2: the highlanders of for honor are much further back in terms of technology, especially in their armor and dress, and I think it's supposed to be what the name says, a highland warrior, not a Galloglaigh
idk if you've ever come back to address any of these points, I just wanted to give my ideas
Finally my call has been heard by the lord himself
Huh...so they were influenced by the Gallowglass? Well, that actually makes a lot of sense then.
DUN MA GLASS
@@dynamicdingus Oh yeah…they do say that.

Can you end the videos with your opinion on if you think the video game does their real life counter parts justice I think that would be a cool addition

Isnt Highlander based on William Wallace?
sometimes I think people get confused between a claymore(lit. two hander/two handed sword) and a claybeg(lit.one hander/one handed sword)
8:03 you did, indeed, butcher that lol. It's pronounced like "Clay-uv mor"
Yeah...thanks for the correction.

Berserker?
Shaman??
Wish Landeros running animation was more manly lol
i think its a lowlander sword, those things are huge
It’s a lot cooler to know the history of the hero and play as them. Highlanders my Main 🔥🔥
The Scottish gaelic is "claidheamh mòr" pronounced as "clay-uv more" literally meaning big sword

Yes, I realized I made that mistake
9:05 highlander is 5.9ft
Of course, any Highlander video would not be complete without SCOTLAND FOREVEEEEEEEEEEEEER
This video fails to mention the caledonians, also Scotland Britain is England, Scotland and Wales, not just England
It's quite literally a claymore. It's not "too big to be a claymore" it's a fuckin claymore. It's just a big claymore. Case closed.

Wow congratulations you get absolutely nothing you lose!
Good day sir!
England is on the landmass Britain you said Britain so many times like Brittan is England cringe I'm sorry just cringe about dope video
Sorry you felt that way.
Question though, how do you refer to America? Do you say 'The United States of America,' or just 'America?' Because you could be refering to two different continents when you say that. There's South America, and North America, and if you want to get even more technical, you could say 'Central America' as well.
People use some terms interchangably mistakenly. Just like you mispelled Britain as Brittan up there. But that's okay, we all know what the other means...settle down.
@@RavenKnightYT u.s.a
No no no no wrong, claymore is derived from gaelic and translates as great sword the name given to the massive ass sword highlander uses, realistically the swords are 5-6ft long, a basket hilted sword is very small and was never reffered to as a claymore
