@@Dogboy2004 BBC, Channel 4 News, DW, Times Radio are good channels for an overview of what is going on. Check out denys davydov for daily update of the position on the ground. Also Perun channel gives some deep background. In general take everything you see, especially small channels, with a pinch of salt and try to corroborate with as many sources as possible especially those sources that have reporteers on the ground in combat areas. In the longer term, the Putinists are happy that they are killing several birds with one stone - they are getting rid of the most troublemaking demographic in any country, unemployed (and sometimes unemployable) young males from low socio-economic backgrounds. As well, they are Buryats, Kazakhs, Tuvans, Tatars, Chechnyans - from ethnic-minority areas and from fringe areas like Kaliningrad or the Kazakh and Mongolian borders. Dwindling populations that this “helps” to dwindle further. And of course when any region votes for independence, as Tatarstan and Chechnya did in the past, these would be the age group fighting for that independence: instead they are potential Russian enemies being used to fight Russian enemies. It is obvious that the Kremlin thinks this is a win-win. But in the long term it is a way to build deep resentment into these regions, anger that their young are being used up and thrown away while their opposite numbers in St Petersburg and Moscow, already with much better resources and chances in life, carry on life as normal.

Does the State beget the People, or vice-versa? In America, we love to blame everybody except ourselves, especially when it comes to politics; and my understanding of what's going on becomes so pure when I discard the idea of external intervention, not to say that propaganda does not exist but definitely that the onus is still upon we individuals to find and understand what's real and to craft our own reality, and stop blaming others for our own choices
So, re: modern Russia/former USSR, I think the psychology of Russians is largely unchanged, and their historical patterns will continue to manifest unless and until acted upon through some mechanism which changes the survival probabilities currently part of the Russian culture

    1. How many Russian have been killed in this "Special Operation" in Ukraine? Answer is 30,000
    2. Why doesn't Russia retrieve the bodies of dead soldiers and give them honour for their sacrifice, give them the respect and dignity of burial in their homeland attended by their grieving families? Answer is Ukraine is holding 15,000 bodies that Russia refuses to take!

The interesting thing here is, my uncle is extremely susceptible to propaganda, but from a pro China standpoint. His sources aren't really giving him much to go on, as they are kind of non-committal, sitting on the fence and not saying much of any substance.
Because he is unable to think for himself and just parrots other sources, this leaves him completely at sea, unable to form an opinion of his own. He's reaching out for the propaganda to tell him what to think, but it isn't coming, at least not sufficiently. He's waiting to be told what to think - and even the reliance on previous propaganda isn't enough, it needs to be fresh otherwise he's like a drone with the power switched off
Propaganda is as much about the receiver as it is the transmitter,

Top Zelensky adviser concedes loss of Liman, a major Ukrainian stronghold in Donbass
Russian troops have taken over the town of Liman in the northern Donetsk region, the government in Kiev revealed, on Thursday evening. Ukrainian forces have reportedly withdrawn west-southwest towards Slavyansk.
“We have lost the town of Liman,” Alexey Arestovich, a key adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, admitted in a livestream on Thursday.
Though Arestovich cited “unconfirmed reports,” Russian military correspondent Alexander Kots posted a video of Russian troops in the city shortly thereafter, captioned “Liman is ours.” Ukrainian troops “fled” west and southwest, Kots added, while covering their retreat with artillery fire.
The storming of Liman lasted less than a week, with Russian forces entering the city on May 23. There were unconfirmed reports, on Telegram channels, that as many as 500 Ukrainian troops had surrendered. By Wednesday, three quarters of Liman was allegedly under russian control 👌😂

      "American living in donbass"
This american journalist has been living in Donbass for many years, his home is in Donbass and his wife is from Donbass.
The journalist began to regard himself as one of the people of Donbass, he identifies with them, he sympathizes with them, he can no longer be OBJECTIVE. Therefore he is no longer a real journalist, he is a propagandist.

Hilarius, the greatest propaganda machine on the internet is going to bring the truth to Russian citizens.
With an approval rating of 85% it's hard to immagine that it's just older people who support Putin.
On the contrary, among the younger generation, Putin is nearly as popular as a rock star.

As far as I am concerned, both Trump and Putin are cut from the same psychological cloth and, so, are both dangerous. Ukraine is not a perfect country. However, it has not militarily intervened outside of its legal borders, unlike Russia, and it posed no threats to Russia. Russia's invasion is entirely for the internal purpose of its leaders and no one can predict how far its territorial and military ambition go. Putin made clear statements that indicate that his ambitions are not limited to Ukraine. He wrote them in an essay, stated them at the Munich convention.
