My favorite travel channel of all time. You have inspired many of my family road trips over the past couple of years. Thank you!

You missed one of the coolest features of that hike!
When you are first showing the wide shot of the mountains/canyon, there is a large landslide on the cliff face left of the canyon. That slide was caused by a fairly large earthquake in the mid 90's (can't recall exact year).
The slide was heard for miles.
Also Dog canyon is the only access through the Deadhorse's for miles and was used as a common route to the Adams/Stillwell ranches and Rio Grande on the other side.

When I hiked it we scrambled up the mountain on the right across the top and back down to the trail out.

We LOVE Big Bend. The National Park and the State Park are arguably the most beautiful places in Texas. I would have to say Palo Duro Canyon is equally as beautiful and a must see.

I was there on a geological expedition in mid eighties to study the thrust faulting and stratigraphy. Fascinating place for sure especially in July and August when its 120 degrees. Theres mountain lions there as well as coyotes. It was awesome to climb to the very top of the canyon and watch the T38 fighter jets fly through the canyon. They were actually below us when they flew through. You could see their faces and white helmets they were so close. The caves there were a welcome escape from the blistering heat and was not uncommon to find artifacts and debitage piles of where the ancients were making arrowheads. We found some types of rocks that I recognize that were only found in Arkansas called Novaculite. Id love to go back but I dont think id survive 120 degrees in my old age today. Great place and if you can visit it is well worth it. Boquillas canyon and Mule ear peaks was also cool as was Santa Elena Canyon. We spent several weeks around Terlingua and Study Butte (Chisos Mining Co.) which is some really cool mining history. Ill shut up now...I could blab about that place forever!

    ❕ ❕ ❕ *OMG* ❕ ❕ ❕
There is definitely a face carved into one of those rocks walls!
At 3:54 it will be right in the middle of the screen. It's easy to see because it's a much lighter color than the surrounding rock.
I was born & raised in God's Country (Washington State).
Had to live in Dallas, Irving & Arlington to run my Aunt's 3 Apt. complexes (My Dad ran them but had a stroke so I went there to help). 2 weeks turned into 4 years.
Gotta say it... Don't care much for Texas after being there 4 years. I refer to it as "Satan's Crotch". LOL 🔥👹🔥👹🔥
    BUT...
On our way out of the State, My Dad & I spent a few days in the Chisos Mountains.
Took our new Cadillac off roading. Got great pics of it in the river bed of the Rio Grande.
I hiked the Window Trail all the way to the Window & back (in search of the Colima Warbler). Come to find out - that bird wasn't there at the time I did the hike! LOL
    LOVE the Chisos Mountains!!

When we hiked this several years ago there were animal bones and carcasses in the cave. Perhaps a hideout for a Mountain Lion.

That looks like some rattle snake country there! I had no idea about “Glen Rose” being a type of formation. Glen Rose Texas is one of my favorite Texas spots.

I tried hiking this in August 2022 during the rainy season but the riverbed was washed out and had to turn back. Was always fascinated by the collapsed cliffside on the left hand side of the trail head and wondered how long it had been there. Took me 3 trips to Big Bend before giving Dog Canyon a try.
