Mel it’s pronounced rooter😮
Exactly!
Yes. This. Pleeeeease don't call it a frikkin rowterrrr. 😁
😂😂😂 drives me crazy haha
Hes trying to keep the Americans viewers from looking at him odd 😂
I wasn’t going to give you 30 seconds of a view incase it was the same as your ‘run a domestic fridge on 12v’ rubbish again 😂😂😂
That’s ok I won’t give you any chances of leaving a comment on my videos because I’m going to block them 🖕
But...maybe youre battery does not show consumption of the inverter? Then real life consumption would be more than just10W
Maybe
Great video Mel, we met up with you at Stratford a few weeks back.
We will be going this route 🙌🏻
Hi was a pleasure meeting you 👍🤓👍
Hi, I have seen you are using a netgear router. This router allows offloading via Ethernet, so you do not need an extra travel router
Thank you I have to try this I didn’t realise that was possible really appreciate your help 👍
Hi Mal just a quick update, we did the conversion as per your video.
We have had a major problem with the PoE injector trying to set our van on fire as there is no internal fuse fitted.
We luckily had a 10amp fuse on the supply so it stopped with just some smouldering, just something for you to be aware of.
Also it has knackered our Starlink cable as it’s melted the end connection, probably a stray voltage over the specified 48v
Oh my goodness me I’m sorry to hear that I’ll post this comment to the top of the comments thanks for the warning
@@BigVanSmallWorldnot in any way your fault just a faulty unit, done some research and I am opting for the boondocker version now as it’s got built in internal protection, keep up the great vlogs 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Mbits/s not Mega bytes.
I thought yoir Nighthawk was faster than the star link? Its seems that box was just to give you power over POE power over ethernet which mist routers do now for such things as cctv.
Be ok if out in a desert bit to be honest a normal 5g 4 g router will get a good speed , the cost of those are mad upload speed is ok if youre wanting to upload video to youtube but for the average person they aren't worth getting for streaming and web browsing
I agree. I traveled around the UK for four years and spent one year in Europe with 4G working perfectly. Starlink's 65W power consumption is quite high. I leave my router on 24/7, and it uses only 4W. I have the RUTX12, which runs on 12V. My unlimited data plan from O2 costs £25 per month. In comparison, the base dish from Starlink costs £150 (we're now on version 3) with a monthly fee of £75. Additionally, having to place the dish outside for a connection is inconvenient. Yes, I've seen the flat mount, but you need to remove a solar panel to use it.
The inverter in all the "Solar generators" are not going to be 100% efficient (normally around 85% - 95%) so going to save on those losses and make the battery last longer.
Correct 👍
Hi Mel. As always very informative and I have used so many of your tips. How hot does the grey box from Amazon get.
It get warm wouldn’t say hot
@@BigVanSmallWorld thanks Mel installed today and used my existing 4g router and when I turn the starling off it switches automatically back to the SIM card. Thank you as always for your helpful advice.
You definitely wouldn't save any power with the PoE injector got to say that is very expensive for a PoE injector. I always use PoE when installing cctv systems
Good on ya find one that works with Starlink
Good afternoon becky and Mel I love you so very much for what you all do for us on your you tube channel please keep safe and warm i love watching your videos of you and your building your new campervan please keep up the good work up on your videos on your you tube channel
Now fully off grid or is there anything else that's on your radar to get you to the middle of nowhere
I think i have just about enough now all but hunting and fishing for my own food 👍
Hi Mel...wouldn't the inverter that you used to convert your fridge to 12v be a better option
I don't think so
Okay...just a thought...love your channel btw
Hi Mel, it’s not faster it’s just Starlink takes a while to get up to speed. It can get up to 300Mbps
Yeah I’m experimenting with it now
When would you ever need 300Mbps?
Great vid. Love the non destructive approach. I think you could probably have used your Nighthawk M1 as the router (rooter, not rauter!). I've seen other Starlink specific POE devices that do the same job.
I know using the night hawk was an option but I didn’t want to make it too confusing
Another great video Mel 😊
Thank you 👍🤓👍
Mel, how much is Starlink a month to rent ? It would be good to see if a Starlink connection is worth the cost, I think most places in the UK and Europe you could get a good signal with 4G ?
It’s currently £85 a month you can opt in and out as and when you need to
The starlink mini will take over this unit. Much easier by the sounds of it and hopefully 12V
Nice 👍
Star link will take over for van life
Bought a Starlink link kit like you mel for my camper do I need a router to hold a Sim card which is applicable with the Starlink aerial. Sorry to bother you mate I know you are busy kind regards Clive. Love watching your videos mate
no you dont need a sim card for starlink
As ever Mel, thanks a lot for trail blazing this! I have had Starlink for over 1 year now. Take it in the van with the router too through an inverter. On sunny days the solar panel keeps up no problem. Is the 12v change worth it? Power wise, probably not but it is smaller and neater. I love the bracket you found on Amazon too. Will you travel with the dish on the roof too? I tend to wedge ours inside the van in the roof light and it works! Can't open the roof light though so the bracket is another idea. Thanks!
Thank you I think it’s pretty good m glad I did take a chance on the conversation no I wouldn’t drive with the dish on the roof but it is really easy to take down with that bracket 👍
The Starlink will get fast and faster as it stays in one position. It will surprise you how fast it gets. If you left it on its own router it would’ve been as fast or faster than your wee modem
Interesting 🤔
A watt saved is a watt earned
Absolutely 👍
Nice one Mel! Lovely to meet you at the weekend and chat with you and Ade. You've sent my brain into overdrive re living in a van! 😂 Sue with the yappy poodle 😅
Hay Sue was an absolute pleasure to meet you too 👍🍻👍
Is starkink any good for a house with a poor mobile signal to use for the internet. I ask because the WiFi is also very poor where I live?
Absolutely Yes this is where Starlink comes into play Becky has terrible service at her home and Starlink is amazing there that’s why I wanted to be able to move it around so we can use it at the barn at Becky’s and in the van when we are away
Brilliant. That is called work smarter not harder.
Thank
Nice video Mel, it makes very interesting watching.
Thank you 👍🤓👍
Great video I have a little question on there website they want £85 per month. Doing it the way you done you don’t have to pay the £85 per month? Great thing to have off grid living 😊
You still have to pay for their service
@@BigVanSmallWorld ok thanks just wanted to ask thanks 🙏
Had a google to see how much the subscription is for starlink and is it £85 a month or am I missing a trick ?
Correct it’s £85 a month but you don’t have to pay when you’re not using it. for instance when I go to remote parts of Scotland I will pay for the month that I’m there and the rest of the year I don’t have to pay anything
Uh oh - get ready folks , Mel and 12v conversions make good , interesting video.......
No explosions in this on though 😂🤣😂👍
Great vlog Mel.
Will you us this all the time or us the netgear?.
Be safe 👍
Thank you I’ll only use Starlink when I’m travelling
£75 a month a bit pricey for my liking
If you’re not using the internet for your living then yes it’s expensive. But for me it’s a necessity
So what is the benefit of this Mel? Do you get a better signal or something? And I'm disappointed that I didn't come up as a favourite channel 🤣😭
Oh you know how much I adore you 😘🥰
@@BigVanSmallWorld 😁
I live on a canal boat. I have a simple wifi modem/router. with an external aerial. All on 12v. Router was 20 Quid and the aerial was about 10. As long as there is a mobile signal (99% of UK has coverage) we have wifi. Just got a van and will probably just use phones as mine is not a conversion but a simple set up for occasional overnight use.
Yeah I think I may have wasted £400 lol 😂
@@BigVanSmallWorld If you are going abroad and into more remote areas then yours will be a more reliable set up.
99% coverage my *ss.
@@JazzFunkNobby1964 When I posted my original comment I had never found anywhere with NO COVERAGE! However, I have had next to no data for the last few weeks as I toddle down the Ashby Canal! Basically, been unplugged! (Given what has been happening here in the UK its probably been good for my blood pressure!)
So I have to agree. My figure was a bit optimistic! 😜
Handy video, thanks 👍🏻
Glad it helped
Excellent video thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
Do u have to pay a monthly subscription
Yes but there is no contract
I definately found this video mildly entertaining and slightly informative. Thank you. Who knew!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for your support really appreciate it 👍🤓👍
Hi Mel, I've heard the monthly subscription for Starlink is outrageous..Perhaps an internet supplier costs review video as a comparison,...
Thanks for the info!
Good job Mel
Thank you ☺️
good vid
Thank you ☺️
Another great experiment Mel 👍
Thank you! Cheers!🍻
Nice one Mel 👍🏻 😊
Thank you 😁
