Absolutely digging it. We did this to a chopper that was loaned to our squadron and it was a total lemon. We returned by truck with so many messages chalk on the radar scattering paint they had to have the bird repainted. Yep we wasted some tax dollars there and I still have the pictures from 30 years ago.
That is brilliant!! I'd never thought to build a model of one of those Wrong Carrier planes. I've always got a kick out of looking at the photos. Fantastic job on designing your own decals - WOW!! It turned out awesome!!
Absolutely superb! Built this kit many years ago, with the same True Details cockpit set. I also upgraded the engine with a Hi-Tech resin replacement. Still a good looking kit.
Nice touch drooping the elevators. Not every modeler catches that detail. The wing fold is resin obviously. But did you use the stock Academy cockpit or is it an aftermarket one?
Thanks! It's a mix of both, I got a resin cockpit for a Hasegawa kit and didn't fit in some places, so I took most of the resin bits and mated it with the plastic ones of the kit to make it fit a lot better.
Great video! I could do without the music! Where did you get the decals? Why did you use Tamiya “Orange” for the kit? Wish you would explain the what / why
well, at least 5 weeks of modeling and around 50 hours maybe apart from a couple of weeks of practicing and learning to make custom decals, I may do a video about it in the future, who knows?
I am the maker of these decals, I designed them myself and went to a local print shop with my decal paper to print them with a laser printer, I am thinking of selling some custom decals on eBay tho, but I know nothing about international shipping in my country, only time will tell.
I used Adobe Photoshop and illustrator to design the decals myself and went to a small local print shop near my house, there's only one guy who knows how to use a laser printer there, the boy explained to me what I had to do for their printer to recognize my design to print in white, I bought some thin transparent decal paper on amazon, I came with my paper to the print shop and finally got it to print in white. The only problem that I have come across is that they do not have a way to square the sheet to print a second time in color on the white base without it being moved or out of register, so for now I can only make a decal of two parts, white first and color on top, the carrier film is a little thicker, but it is so thin that it dissolves well anyway.

Hope this explains it. "When aircraft carriers operate in close groups, it could happen that one pilot lands on the wrong carrier. It has become tradition to put all kinds of Graffiti all over the plane before sending it back to his original carrier. This is what happens to Lcdr. W.S. Miller of VF-63 "Fighting Redcocks" in 1952 when he flew of USS Boxer to a strategic bombing mission over Northern Korea . He missed his own carrier and instead landed on USS Princeton."
@@fearofthedark666 Its a joke. When a (fighter) aircraft takes off from carrier A, and accidentally lands on carrier B, its kinda of running gag to paint jokes on that plane. In real, that is what happend to this specific plane, it landed accidently on the wrong carrier. And payed the price with a new paintjob :)
One day while on Yankee Station my brothers ship took supplies via helicopter...the crew spent the night aboard, someone stenciled property’s of USS MOUNT KATMAI AE 16 all over the helicopter...

What sort of helicopter was it?
Lol , I'd like to see the pictures of that. Some of my paintings did not go good at all, lol.
As a civilian, a story like this would be a reason for me to pay taxes
This is what i love about modelling, it's about bringing your own touch to the model, making it unique. Amazing job my friend.
I had no idea that graffiti-ing a “Wrong Carrier Landing” plane was even a thing! Great build and video. TY! A+++++
Now this. This is what I call a cool build

Fantastic build! I love models with a bit of a backstory :-)
Awesome build!
Absolutely fantastic build. You should market the decals, I know for sure I'd be down for a set.
I am actually planning on selling some decals for this aircraft on eBay, but I know nothing of international shipping in my country whatsoever.
@@moixmodels This is awesome news. If you sell them internationally, I am down for two sets.
@@dekon70 I bring good news, the decals are finally listed to be bought on eBay, this is the link if you're interested: www.ebay.com/itm/3041490953846

Name for the pinzel the cockpit?
Epic result, I think I saw it on Facebook, smcg? Nice video too!
Most excellent done! Looks super fab!
Did you use a chipping medium to get back to the metal?
I used cheap hairspray, decanted it to a bottle so I can airbrush it easily
This is a very nice build
Thank you!
Nice Work, how long did you spend the work?

Very very cool!
I can't wait to have my cataract surgery done, so I can get back to building. I don't have any more room in my closet for kits.
Man I had to subscribe!
so cool! Subscription done!
Where do you get your paintbrushes?
I am using a 12 dollar airbrush from aliexpress, nothing fancy xD
日本でも間違った母艦に着陸とかあったのかな?
I don't get it.
Hope this explains it.

Hilarious...!!! Lol
Laughing my ass off. Not a politicly correct build but it needs one more piece of graffiti, "your turn in the barrel".
