    With the helinox, I cut the bottoms of pop cans and use them as sink preventers. Works great, light weight, and they pack stacked and very small

    Helinox chair zero is 1lbs. I love mine. Fits great in my packs water bottle pocket and I dont mind the extra weight because at the end of the day it's just so nice to have a comfortable place to sit.

    I have used the BTR stool now on a couple of overnight trips and I find that it works just fine. I also have a small foam sit pad. I find that if I combine the two it makes for a more comfortable experience. It's not as comfortable as a chair, but it's a lot more comfortable than sitting on the ground, a rock or a log. It takes up very little room in my pack and the weight is less than any chair out there.

    Another great video! Another "chair" to consider is an ultra lightweight hammock such as hummingbird or superior daylite hammock. Obviously you need trees, but has the added bonus of allowing 2 sitting/lounging positions. I think it is max comfort to weight ratio, although a little let versatile then a chair.

    • @pedroclaro7822
      @pedroclaro7822 Рік тому

      Absolutely agreed. Any hammock is a very nice option for sitting around and lounging, for cooking, or taking a nap. I got a lightweight hammock that I pair with a foam pad. I use the pad to place my feet on while going into and out of the hammock, and I can also sit on the pad if I ever want to just sit without having trees.

    The REI Flexlite Air is very similar to the Helinox. In fact the fabric seat fits both frames. I replaced the sinkable leg tips with bigger ones made for trekking poles. Doesn't sink quite as often!

    Nice vid. I just started carrying an REI featherlight chair, I love it. I don’t know how I managed without it before! And at only 15.7 oz not bad on the back!

    I have seen a lot of Helinox chairs on the weekend trips as of late. I’m still rocking the sit pad while leaning against a tree 😂🙃

    • @Ceece20
      @Ceece20 2 роки тому

      I use my sit pad for lunch whenever I find a good log to eat.
      That said I use a Hummingbird hammock for a camp chair. I’m a bit too tall to comfortably get in and out of those small chairs. The hammocks let me adjust to a comfortable height and the seat pad is great when I’m not in the hammock.

    I tried a helinox chair zero last October... When I got back from my backpacking trip I went directly to my local outdoor store and purchased the Big Agnes sky line UL. I believe it weighs 17 ounces and has no plastic... ITS WORTH EVERY OUNCE 😀 Thanks for the great video.

    Well as you politely asked what was going on, I just finished picking up all the leaves in the garden and emptying my compost bin into the vegetable plot ,and starting a new one . It started to rain so I came in and sorted all my camping gear ready for next year ! Then I played yahtzee on zoom !

  • @Oldsparkey
    @Oldsparkey 5 років тому +1

    I hammock camp 95% of the time and used the hammock as a chair. Then I started with a camping stool back in the dark ages. Later I was using the folding type of chairs and finally a Helinox Chair Zero. Then I reverted back to using the hammock as a chair. Then changed to a Terrapan Outfitter Hatchling which is basically a small hammock used as a chair. The other benefit is that just before calling it a night , I can hang it under my hammock as a gear hammock. Now I really like that Better then a Rock stool , it's a vicious cycle with camping gear. lol.

    I’m a fan of the Grand Trunk Micro Camp Stool. Here are the specs:
    Aluminum frame with 1680D Oxford Nylon seat fabric that won't fray or tear; Only weighs 10.5oz but holds a weight capacity of 250lbs; In use it measures 8" x 10" x 10"; Stowed in its included stuff sack it measures 12” x 6” 1.5
    Not a bad little chair for the money. It does sink in soft dirt sometimes, it’s fairly low to the ground, and there isn’t a back rest, but overall I find it comfortable and easy to use.

    Dude I see your rockn those LaSportiva Lycans...I have the same Bushidos you had but they are a little tight in the toes even a full size up.
    What do I think of the Lycans in comparison? I love the bushidos, but need a replacement and have looked at these for day hikes and multi day lightweight backpacking trips.

    • @BackcountryExposure
      @BackcountryExposure  5 років тому +1

      Literally just got home from a super rocky and rugged 18 mile loop with 3200’ of gain. Took the Lycan’s with and after a long day of walking over boulders and carrying a pack you can feel more through the shoe than with the bushidos. The bushidos are stiffer than the lycan. I really did love the lycans though.

    I'm a fairly big guy (6'2", 225 lbs) so an extra pound isn't a big deal for me and upper limits on backpacking chairs matter to me. I carry a 2.5 lb Trekology Yizi Go chair when backpacking. Stools are for resting, not lounging. Sit pads are for minimalists, which I am not. I love my chair. I did invest in the foot pad to keep it from sinking into the ground. At the end of a 20+ mile day, it's dreamy and totally worth the extra weight.

    I bought the BTR 14” stool last summer and after roughly three dozen uses it gave out under me. The “phantom” lock in one of the legs does not lock anymore, rendering the stool a pack of scrap. I loved the practicality of it for cooking and the light weight but...it wound up in the useless gear box.🤨

    The trip obviously dictates the type of seating that makes sense. For thru-hiking a sitpad on the ground leaning against my pack against a rock/tree/log makes the perfect makeshift chair. Shorter trips that evolve more time around camp, fishing or day hiking from a base camp, a chair might make more sense. Crazy creek doesn't make sense for the weight to comfort ratio.

NOW, the plastic caps on the back legs of the replacement chair is breaking off. I sent email to CLIQ on 7/5/22. Sent photos requested. No response from CLIQ even after sending several messages. I did consider adding it, but didn’t want to complicate it. 😜

    Just ordered a Chair One for only $54. I'm on a bike, so the extra weight isn't noticeable. Animals sit on the ground.

    The balance chair is just useless. IMO. Like what’s the point?

      Frost Outdoor Adventures and Reviews definitely not useless. It’s surprisingly comfortable and you don’t really even notice that it’s not a four legged chair. It also doesn’t sink into soft ground as easy. Don’t knock it till you try it. 😜

    Stools are handy. They are not chairs.
