  • WTF!! WARNING! Do Not Scan Top Loaders On Your Fujitsu fi-8170! Scratches Can Happen!
    So upset that my new 8170 scanner is scratched because I followed what I was told would work. The fact is that you should not scan any top loaders in the 8170. On my first run, I scratched my new scanner, and now I am pissed.

      So sorry but due to the hurricane damage and complete insanity, I have been away from comments etc.I am pretty surprised that they opted to show this as doing top loaders. I think there is a clear difference between "able to do it" and "able to do it safely" and this is not safe with regard to the risk of damage to the glass.

      Is there anything we can put on the glass to protect it if we want to use for Toploaders? You think clear tape over the glass will protect it and not risk image quality? I see there is no replacement glass so I’m nervous to do Toploaders but I mainly bought it to scan Toploaders.

      @@tcleland104 I have thought about this and looked into a few things, but to be honest, there is nothing that can be done. The first issue is getting the proper access to both scanning glasses. Outside of taking the unit apart, it would be almost impossible to put a layer of tape on without leaving some sort of mark or bubble or crease. And then, even if that could happen, the force it takes to scratch the glass would easily get past the tape (in my opinion). I am not one who is in favor of the toploaders going through this machine and, while I understand that some people have not had issues, the overall experience has convinced me to not do it. Perhaps, and I say this without knowing for sure, but perhaps there would be a way to put the top loader in a clear sleeve, then maybe this would protect the corners and edges from scratch the glass. Who knows...

    I think I just done that mistake also I received the machine today and ran with topploadera and I believe I can see the lines also now after just a few toploaders run..

      Oh no! I hope that is not the case. I think it is a terribly mistake for anyone to advertise this to be good with top loaders considering the risk of damage. I now see that some company is doing some auto feed top loader that can send a ton of them through and I am like "WTF" now you are just asking for it.

    Just watched this one. Did you ever find a fix to run toploaded cards through? Or, would you still not recommend it.

    Wipe ya toploaders down before scanning. You could have had something stuck to the toploader and it caused the scratch.

      No. This glass can scratch from the top loader itself without anything. The glass is very sensitive to this and all it takes is one issue and then it is done for.

    So there's no way to quickly scan cards in top loaders with either Kronocard or CDP?

    • @maxwaxpax
      @maxwaxpax  11 днів тому

      @@MrDrewHowerton no that’s not the issue. You can, but you take the risk of the scanner glass getting damaged. It is not a software issue but rather an issue with the top loaders having a slight imperfection that may catch the glass and permanently scratch it. Some people have not had an issue while some, like myself, experienced it writhing the first 50 scans. In either case, Fujitsu / Ricoh is not providing the glass as a replacement piece that you can order and swap out. My scanner was only a few days old and they were kind enough to warranty replace mine but I cannot imagine them doing this all the time and, if you are not within warranty, it is a very touch price to pay.

      @@maxwaxpax Thanks for the quick reply. I should've clarified that I wasn't really referencing either software in particular, just the ability to scan top loaded cards in bulk without risking scratching the scanner. The whole reason I did so much research on buying a scanner and pairing it with an AI card software was to scan 10,000+ cards that are all in top loaders.

    So how do you scan with this thing??
