This makes be so incredibly happy but also absolutely sad. The work this company is doing is nothing short of amazing but holy crap, look at all that garbage and plastic. And this is just one river worth.
It is mind blowing the amount of plastic in that video. I sure appreciate all your.I've done and trying to clean up the ocean. I look forward to the progress of this latest placement. Hope to see new videos on it.
I believe their is a landfill up river. They do have barriers there, but during heavy rainfall, they are not enough to prevent trash from washing into the river. This barrier was installed to mitigate that.
This has really made a visible difference. I have lived in Belize on the Gulf of Honduras for over 20 years. When I first came there was plastic garbage washing up onto the beach every day. It was very obvious that the majority of the plastic was from Hispanic countries, and products that are not sold in Belize. This year I remarked that there was visibly much less plastic washing up onto the beach than there had been years before.
Finally something to cheer about when it comes to our beautiful planet. People of the world owe so much appreciation to the perseverance and dedication to the Ocean Cleanup crews. God bless you all!!💗
Amazing!!! Is the Guatemala Government in paralel working on solutions for waste logistics so that the river communities stop dumping their trash into the river?
@@LatinJck It comes as no great surprise. They don't have the technology, the infrastructure, or even the know-how to stop the pollution where it starts.

Great to see a second barrier being installed, this river certainly needs it. I guess the no1 priority is reducing the plastic entering the river system in the first place. The government needs to work on making it easier for residents to dispose of their rubbish. Will people be more encouraged to throw their rubbish in the river because they know it will get collected now? Of course stopping it entering the ocean is a great thing. Great work guys
@@playlistofthegods That is honestly one of the most intelligent comments I have ever seen. You actually hit the nail right square on the head. But, income inequality has existed since long before the dawn of time, and it certainly is not going anywhere any time soon.

the engineering and iterative design is very impressive, it looks like the company had really embraced engineering values & has attracted amazing talent. To the engineers congratulations the solutions you are delivering are very clean.
The problem is that if the infrastructure for collecting and disposing or recycling of trash is not in place then the problem will perpetuate. Governments need lobbying to sort their act out regarding waste collection and disposal.
For real, like the amount of plastic I see in these videos since the barrier has been up is.. not decreasing AT ALL. The local government really oughtta pick up the slack
The real problem is the import of plastic in the first place. A tropical region like that needs to start transitioning to pressed banana leaves, bamboo, and other sustainable/biodegradable materials. They also need to process the existing plastic on site and make building materials
They should realize there is money to be made in trash. Installing laws such polluter pays principles can help create a waste and recycling sector which in turn creates jobs and supports your economy. In addition Europe will be looking for ALOT of recycled plastics in the.coming years. All the more reason for these goverments to act. Otherwise we will keep doing stuff like this which is nice but doesn't inherently solve the issue
I'm a avid beach cleaner ,you are right recycling centers everywhere which creates jobs and deposits on at least all beverage bottles at 5c a bottle there will not be any left as trash, this should all be done by coke and pepsi but..
Is anyone else blown away by the amount of trash these barriers are stopping? If this doesn’t motivate us to reduce plastic use, I don’t know what will!
Acts of god sometimes blow trash away from those who intend to put it in the right place, it takes faith to put in the work to make sure it’s collected as stewards of the environment and reaffirm belief in gods plan.

IT is awesome to see that all working out as intended, i wonder how is the recycling going and what form is that taking within that of Guatemala? Is it being turned into Raw materials and sold back into the marketplace, to companies or what? Is it revitalizing that of the country in small areas or what?
In these third world countries, there are no garbage cans, and there’s no agency that comes by to empty them. It either accumulates in town, or locals toss it in the river. I’m not saying it right but that’s their reality. Far different than the luxuries you and I have.
