I haven't gotten around to testing this build properly yet - that is, against skilled opponents with high tier builds. But in any case; thank you for sharing, and thank you for making something unique that isn't just using the latest new meta sets. No Rallying Cry, no Maarselok, no (Perfected) Stinging Slashes, etc. It feels like a genuine oldschool Templar build!
All of the builds I find are for people who have played for years, have a couple thousand champion points and have farmed gear as a full time job. Basically after people would be bored to tears and quit playing by already. This video included. Where are the pvp builds for someone who is leveling or still has a life outside of ESO.
Content creators use the public test server to show the gear at its best. Usually, the footage shows it with potentially unoptimised traits or only as high as purple quality, things like that. Folk aren't farming gear as a full time job. It isn't difficult to farm gear in ESO.
Nice build. The gameplay footage was good but I would have liked to have seen some deaths. Looks like you were playing some absolute noobs in battlegrounds. I feel like I understand the rotation and great burst damage but the survivability is questionable. Also do you have any cyrodil PvP builds?
Thanks for your comment. After putting the build together, I jumped into BGs and ran some matches to test it, which is what you see in the video. I've used it as my main since then and the survivability on it is actually its strongest feature. Of course, any build isn't for everyone, so of course tweak it to your liking if you try it. This build in particular does great in Cyeo and IC. I used it through Midyear in IC and I still use it often in Cyro, so I can confirm it still performs.
Because I can sustain it without being a Breton and being a Breton will lower my DPS. If you want to be a Breton, your damage will be slightly lower and your sustain will be better, so go for it!
I switch between the two depending on the scenario, although by oversight, I think the footage only shows javelin. Charge gets used more really, since we fight in melee range.
9:30 Scavenging Demise set procs. You are the only one on your team there surrounded by reds. The footage is good but Scavenging Demise is not part of this build. I see this all the time.
The Maelstrom Restoration Staff is the best back bar option if you are willing to drop a back bar skill for Regeneration. I prefer the given back bar, so I stick with Willpower, but it's absolutely customisable to your tastes!
@@syiccal That's the one, yeah. It's a very good weapon; in the footage, I displayed a few different options, including switching from Explosive Charge to Javelin, just to demonstrate that the build is versatile and can be adjusted to the player's tastes =)
In short, not really. Because this is a magicka Templar, we require at least some light armour to build up magicka recovery, penetration, and some extra crit. Deadly Strike is medium, and would have to replace one of our other sets. If it replaces War Maiden as the damaging set, we find ourselves with no light armour. If we replace Pariah, we find ourselves too squishy. You are not without hope, though. You are looking for a stamina Templar. StamPlars are excellent in Deadly Strike as it buffs all their best skills, so it is well worth it and will perform well!
I managed to make it work by replacing Pariah+War Maiden (which I ran for a long time) with Deadly+Buffer of the Swift and Undead passive. Slightly more squishy if I don't move, but more mobile, and much more damage. You can also pop the vampire utlimate if you like, and you simply become immortal and kill everything in your path for a few seconds. With the amount of healing that we get, being a bit squishier is a non-issue, especially since more damage = more healing Also I don't use Magelight but Solar Barrage on front bar and Living Dark on back bar, and no Repentance but Elusive Mist. Stam regen is gained from using Jewel of Misrule instead of Clockwork Fillet For now, I am using Markyn Ring and 1pc Magma Incarnate because I play mostly in No-CP Cyrodiil, but I am considering switching for Gaze of Sithis. I'll give it a try after I'm done farming it.
2 Questions: Where did you put your attributes? 2. Why would you need magelight if you use Essence of Spell Power, which gives everything magelight does including the recovery?
Hi there! I assign my attributes to bring me up to about 30K health, and then dump the rest into magicka. Depending on the quality of your gear and enchantments, it can vary a little. We use Magelight primarily for the passive extra 5% max magicka, along with the extra benefits from the Mage's Guild passives. You can slot Camo Hunter if you prefer, or Blinding Flare for 10% extra damage mitigation if you wish.
A one bar setup would be a completely separate build in and of itself, probably including the Oakensoul Ring. One bar setups aren't my forte, but you will be able to find plenty around for what you're looking for!
No mythic needed! If you really want, you can switch Zoals out for a 1pc monster on the shoulder, such as Magma Incarnate, use a Pariah headpiece, and use the Markyn Ring of Majesty. That gave some pretty great results, and it was my setup before I switched to Zoals, which I perform better with.
I can confirm that this works great in Cyrodiil and IC too. Aside from Nightblade (because... cmon), I did better with this in CP IC than any other class.
Technically yes, although there are no upsides. Since Templars fight in melee range anyway, it's better to enjoy the benefits of dual wield. However, the next patch brings some interesting upgrades to the lightning staff that may be beneficial to Templars, so that could work nicely.
@@casualgamer5863 With an upcoming patch, inferno staves are going to be updated to boost damage over time effects, while lightning staves will be updated to boost direct and channelled damage. Jabs counts as direct and channelled, while Beam counts as channelled and damage over time, so it's a judgement call. Personally, I would prefer to power up Beam, and enjoy being able to track dodge-spammers with a lightning heavy attack, so I would recommend a lightning staff.
Absolutely! Truth be told, in the footage, I'm actually using a High Elf because I happened to have a High Elf Templar levelled. The extra stamina from a Dark Elf is incredibly useful in PvP, but not a make-or-break feature to the build.
@ValkyrieRaiden Absolutely! I use it in Cyrodiil a lot. The Zoal's set makes for some hilarious 1vx fun, and it's hilarious completely shutting down Nightblade gankers with it!
@@JessRaiden1vX means you (1) vs multiple people (X). You replace X with how many ppl you are fighting. So instead of saying 1v5 or 1v2 or 1v3, you just say 1vX because it's solo vs multiple players.
Question: I like this build and I'm working on it right now. But I don't understand why Willpower on the back bar? The 3-item bonus of weapon and spell damage doesn't kick in because you've only got two items. The two item bonus, with powered and a weapon damage enchant, is 1752 max magicka with no recovery. It seems like swapping off of War Maiden's 4 and 5 piece bonus (a total of 729 weapon and spell damage / healing) isn't worth the trade-off for 1752 max mag? Unless there's something I'm missing?
I re-watched that segment of the video. You said, "On the back bar restoration staff, we use a simple Willpower staff to boost the potency of our healing." It doesn't, though, not meaningfully. The boost of 1752 max mag is minimal to negligible. I really think having a War Maiden resto staff makes more sense here (ETA: even though the 5-piece bonus only affects damaging abilities) unless using an Arena set with a two-piece bonus or something else with a meaningful two-piece bonus.
I think the maelstrom regen staff could perform better on the back bar, since all the damage dealt is on the front bar, a war maiden's regen staff could not perform well
Hi there! There's one small thing that you're missing, but it's easily missed. War Maiden adds weapon and spell damage to magicka DAMAGE abilities. That doesn't apply to healing, only damage, and we have no damage on the back bar. Therefore, the Willpower 2pc bonus will boost our healing nicely. There is one alternative, which is the Maelstrom Restoration Staff. That requires you to drop a skill for Regeneration, which is a customizable part of the build that I don't use. I like the back bar setup as it is and don't struggle with sustain, so Willpower is best for me.
The Willpower 2pc bonus adds some extra healing power that is comparable to the 129 extra spell damage. There are no damaging abilities, so the 5th piece from War Maiden will have no effect. I mention in the video that the Maelstrom Restoration Staff is also a great option, but I like my back bar as it is, so I prefer this setup. Feel free to customise it to your taste! =)
The Maelstrom Staff is an excellent addition to the build indeed. It doesn't suit my own personal preference, which is what the build reflects, but I do mention that it is an option that may be more suitable for folk willing to switch out a back bar skill.

Pariah and War Maiden are both base game aren’t they? You can just buy them at guild traders, don’t even have to farm them.
