    Nicely filmed and narrated Jason! What a gorgeous tree. I envy your patience with wire application - quite the time commitment! Beautiful craggy bark and nebari. I look forward to your future work on this tree - will definitely help me with my shore pines and Scotts pines development.

      Thanks Sue. I have been a bit obsessed with getting a couple of mature pines since the Bonsai Show LIVE in October, and decided then to add both a white pine and black pine. Being larger trees gives an opportunity to better study their growth and learn their care. 🙏

    Two very different but impressive Pines. That Black Pine is already looking striking and unique. That White Pine has started its journey with you...the real challenge now is working out the branches you need to lose to allow more air and light into the tree to get maximum benefit of any back budding. You will learn so mcuh with these two pines in your collection jason. All the best for Christmas and New year my friend :)

    I came across 'The Duchess' when looking round for trees on my 40th birthday recently, although she was a little too daunting for me!

    Very awesome bonsai, especially the black pine in my opinion. To me they are absolutely beautiful and need no further work, unless I'm being hyper-picky... as someone pointed out; the top of the white pine is just one continuous pad tho doubtless composed of multiple branches. I'd look to see what can be done about defining them, esp on an apically dominant tree.
    I always love your drawings to fully explain the concepts. Well done.

    • @TheBonsaiGarden
      @TheBonsaiGarden  15 днів тому

      Thanks. I can continue to define to pads of the white pine in subsequent seasons. For the black pine I need the foliage to fill out, while learning technique to shorten needle size. 🙏

    2 amazing trees! congrats! Makes me really want to get a white pine now😂 they sell for qyute alot of money over here in the US. How do they hold up in the winter? Do u protect them?

    • @TheBonsaiGarden
      @TheBonsaiGarden  17 днів тому +1

      They need a bit of protection drone excess rain.

    I have a large white pine similar in size and I put the wire on it like 5 months ago I asked a few people from my club and they told me it might take a year or two for the branches to set. But I’m monitoring it monthly so it doesn’t dig in and leave a scar

    • @TheBonsaiGarden
      @TheBonsaiGarden  19 днів тому

      Thanks - yes, because the branches are so young and flexible I expect it will remain in n for several me time. 🙏

    Some skin in the game: love it!
    If you allow me: I feel you left to much branches on the tree. It is difficult to define pads this way. Also, the top is now very strong and will shade out the lower parts.
    Merry Xmas.

    Your smile says it all.
    "Beast" is ironic, as beauty is the ying or yang.
    Perfect name Jason.
    And may be the duchess, is that ying or yang?,
    to this obvious journey.
    Certainly my excited opinion.
    Comments on the heavy and unbroken apex are easily said but the tree is not in my true view.... either.
    So I have no outspoken opinion, as it always looks different on camera, do your own thing Jason.
    Always enjoy your committed passion.

    • @TheBonsaiGarden
      @TheBonsaiGarden  13 днів тому

      Ha ha. Thank you.
      I decided a couple of BIG pines would be the best way to properly learn their care and maintenance and have been a bit obsessed with them since the Bonsai Show LIVE in Telford. I can work on that apex and continue to refine it in coming seasons, no hurry.
      I just now need to add a big blackthorn tree and my collection is complete. 😆
      All the very best for 2025
