- Nerja is situated at the eastern tip of the Costa del Sol, in the province of Malaga, 50 kilometres from the city of Malaga and within an hour and a half’s drive from Granada and the ski resort of the Sierra Nevada.
Sheltered by the impressive Sierra Almijara mountain range, Sierra Almijara, this once sleepy fishing village is now one of the most popular tourist resorts along the coast, with a population of over 12,000. The town has resisted too much re-development and high rise apartment blocks, preferring to stay a charming seaside town, attracting the more discerning holidaymaker; the town is often referred to as the ‘’Jewel of the Costa del Sol’.
One of the town’s most impressive attractions is the Balcón de Europa (the Balcony of Europe), a wonderful promenade, stretching along the edge of a soaring cliff top, which was once the location of a Moorish castle. The platform has spectacular panoramic views of the Mediterranean coastline, with its backdrop of mountains.
The deep Andalusian culture that the town exudes, perfect climate and cosmopolitan atmosphere, has made Nerja one of the most attractive holiday hotspots on the Costa del Sol.
The old quarter of the town is still virtually unchanged with narrow, winding streets, whitewashed houses with wrought iron terraces overflowing with geraniums, on which a canary can sometimes be heard singing.
Visitors can hire a horse-drawn carriage and explore the town’s most interesting streets and attractions. When in Nerja visits to the 17th Century Church of El Salvador and the Gardens of Capistrano Playa are essential.
There are plenty of restaurants and cafes here to choose from, and lots of lovely plazas (squares) where you can sit and watch the world pass by.
As with most of Spain, Tapas is an integral part of the local cuisine, and there are lots of great tapas bars in and around Nerja; order a drink and you will often receive a few tapa. does have its own speciality dishes including De La Doncella (Red Mullet dish) and Pescaito Frito (platter of fried fish). There are a wide variety of different cuisines on offer in Nerja; you will be spoilt for choice.

How about cordoba the roman bridge over the river to meqitza and then over to the plaza mayor a bit of way in land but very nice part of Spain full of culture

Hey Kriel- i injoy your vidio, axually I have been right there i Narja and have rented an appartment - if look up to right hand side between the tree and the bush with light red flowers - 1.34 in the vidio y'll see a balcon with the blue/ white stribes awning, we was there for 2 weeks , my girlfriend and I in 2014 amazing to look at it again - rember all in this , have walket around alot up town and a trip to the caves with a bus , an at the Balcon Europe aswell- great!

Funny, there are shops with so many colorful prints but while I was there, I don't recall any of the locals or tourist wearing them.

Nice walk though not all info of Nerja...population over 21, 000 and missing the biggest beach Burriana Beach full of restaurants,cafe ,etc water sports also including kayak tours where you can see tropical fish and natural water caves etc.Also our cave which holds the worlds biggest stalactite etc.

Hermoso, pero SOLO PARA VACACIONES, para vivir aquí es horrible...
We visited here about 20 years ago, it was very pretty then but obviously not as now. One down side I remember was walking through the streets in town coughing and choking on diesel fumes, I vowed never to return.
Shocked to read that, as I have very bad ashtma and have never experienced anything remotely similar in Nerja since I've been visiting - since 2008.
@@seiranZ Wife has just informed me it was (1999) 23 years ago and also reminded me it only seemed to happen in the evening in the town's narrow streets.
@@leeandjancruise I see, most of those narrow streets must be for pedestrians only now.

Nerja ha conseguido meter a los turistas britanicos en una zona degradada, donde pueden hacer turismo siguiendo sus tradiciones, y dejar el resto de Nerja libre de britanicos, ruidosos, sucios, violentos, borrachos... bien por Nerja, ese es el modelo a seguir para ir hacia un modelo turistico de mas calidad, despues una vez hecha l transicion, simplemente habra que no dejarlos venir
