Because my dad's from Montreal, I heard all about these stories growing up. My aunt was even lucky enough to see the Rocket play live. It's not fair. She saw Rocket, Jean Béliveau, Pocket Rocket, Lafleur, Olmstead, Geoffrion, Moore, etc. De 1993 à aujourd’hui, les Canadiens ont été dans l’embarras. J'espère que Hughes changera ça.
First to score 500 goals. It's rarely mentioned that he did that exploit when seasons where 50 games instead of 82 and the playoffs were 2 series instead of 4.
32 less games. Wow amazing!! I'm 47 but my dad explained to me hockey was slower back then, I was so blown away that they didn't have masks or helmets back then and I thought there must have been a lot of shitload of serious head injuries my dad said Jaques Plante Montreal invented the first mask when the slap shot arrived around 1960,,I don't know he could be wrong only quoting my old man but he generally k ows his stuff. 79 yrs old still kickin' overcame drugs when younger and serious alcoholism throughout life. It's a killer.
It's too bad that Smythe and Campbell saw Richard as someone who refused to go to war. They didn't know he would have given his kidney and his 50-in-50 season to go to war. But of course, they probably also recalled the conscription crisis from World War I.
2:04 in answer to his question, the city of Edmonton would probably have seen a riot of Gretzky was suspended, but it would have meant nothing in the long-term due to the lack of political subtext.
First, Gretzky hasn't done anything close enough to warrant a suspension - so it's actually hard to imagine. Even if he got suspended unfairly, he would shut down any riot before it started by encouraging fans to keep calm and support the Oilers.
If it nwasn't for Richard. there would be no NHL, a fact proven as Dick Irvin jr. said so on the legends of hockey videos. He said that the Montreal maroons and Wanderers were drawing 8 or 9000 agame where Rocket brought it up to 13000 or more when he became successful and every player from Howe to the current crop owe him a huge thanks.
@@Bruins-vq5ey So were any Bruins commentaters in any era especially when the greatest player Bobby Orr played, Rocket saved the league because people were not interested in pro hockey at that time until Richard came into the league. He and Orr were hit dirty for different reasons, Rocket for being French Canadian and Orr for being great.
how does someone score 6 ot goals in a series? thats the kind of thing that drives me nuts. the dude was great but there is no need to make up stuff or say things that blatantly dont make sense.

Really wanted to watch this, but 7 ads in the first 20 mins is too much. UA-cam is worse than cable now. Very disappointing

Dick Irvin was a notorious Homer and Rocket lover

Campbell was a crook. Richard was set up and a deal was made with the team owners at the time to keep him from playing…
