the picture of the pole by the well reminds me of the same feature at our family farm in Finland when I first visited in 1960....in those days, nobody spoke English :) I had to travel east to Joensuu to visit a penpal friend who knew my lang...the only Finnish I knew I learned from my grandmother and it was described to me as "quaint" but it was the thing in 1902. :)
