Fantastic! Glad to hear my video helped you out. Going with 12GB will definitely make your video editing a lot easier. You'll notice just how much smoother your apps will operate as you work with larger video content.
You're welcome. I'm glad my video was able to help you in some way. Have a safe and Happy New Year!
You're most welcome. Great to know my old vid can still help people with their Mac.
I just updated my memory after watching your video. I followed it to the letter and every thing went very smoothly. Thank you!
I believe you can. The design and layout is the same. Glad to hear my video is helpful to you. Good luck.
Thanks! This was far more helpful than the memory chip company's instructions! I now have double the speed, and it was easy!
Thank so much for the encouragement! I will definitely upgrade my RAM and let you know how it goes. Thank you again for the encouragement and the informative video! I'll need it to reference how to put mine in.
Thank you for posting and the tip on the credit card magnet, that's a great idea!
Right on. Glad the vid helped you. Thanks for viewing.
Thanks for the tutorial. Very helpful.
That's a good question and from what I read in the mac forums.. Your '09 Macbook 13" should be able to register the 8GB of RAM upgrade. Mac OSX has no limitations, so you should be fine. Good luck with your studies. I hope to see some of your graphics work in the near future.
@edify333
Yes, you are correct - the i7 (and i5) MBPs can go up to 16GB of RAM as verified by MacFixit. Thanks for sharing. And, I'm glad you found my vid helpful.
@dkellerman
You're welcome. Glad to hear it was helpful. Make sure you test the new memory, just to make sure it's 100% solid.
thanks man .. you r the best .. i changed it in 2 minutes :))
Nice job. Very clear. I assume this would work the same for upgrading from 4GB to 8GB.
.. And, on the 9th day we ALL enjoy a good bowl of noodles (Combo #5) together!
The i7 macbook pro's go up to 16 gigs, apple just dont tell you. Great video!!!
Hmm.. Now that I wouldn't know for certain. I'd imagine the process is the same, but the screw(s) locations and the RAM slots might be in different places than compared to the MBP. Perhaps you can make a video of your MBA for future reference.
@scolcleugh
Thank you.
Yes, the procedure is the same. You shouldn't have any problems.
Just make sure you keep those tiny screws in something once removed, so you don't loose any.
@ZachPape
Yes, MacBookPros do go up to 8GBs DDR3 RAM.
There is a difference in applications load and overall wait time. Is it significant from 2GB to 4GB? It just depends on what you do with your machine and how many programs and/or browser windows you have open in any particular time, I suppose. It made a difference for me. The price of 8GB are so cheap now a days, you might as well just go all out... I'm planning on max-ing mine out to 8GB soon.
@SpeedReycer
It's micron brand DDR3 2GB memory sticks.
Thanks! Very helpful!
You bet.. Glad it helped you.
Thanks! Perfect and to the point
Only if both memory slots are Already taken/used... So, if you needed to increase the amount of memory you will need to remove the "old" memory modules and replace them with the new high capacity units.
can i use this tutorial to upgrade my 2010 mbp 13'?
very useful video thanks!
It really depends on what programs you plan on running or how many you will run simultaneously. What programs do you have? I have 8GB and I'm able to run most everything just fine.
Just for a few minutes if that. As long as it is completely powered down (Not just in Sleep/Stand-by mode)
Nice video. I bought a MacBook Pro about 3 years ago and it has 4 GB Memory. Can I add more? How can I find out if I am able to add more because my laptop is kind of slow now. Thanks in advance.
You turn counter clockwise to unscrew - NOTE: Those tiny screws have a small amount of Loctite on them from the factory, so it may be difficult to loosen initially.
Thank you so much..
Thank you!
thanks a lot. i did it w/ mac book pro 2011 15 inch 2.2. 8gigs
it was simular
Great! Thanks
@classickrap
Actually I got 2 sticks of 4GB DDR3 now.. I'm fully loaded to 8GB!
COOL!...I WILL UPGRADE MACBOOK TOO
I managed to update the RAM on my MBP 13-inch 5.5 mid 2009. thanks!
Now I'd like to ask you something else. Do you know which (non Apple) SSDs are compatible with this model?
@billyred1010
You could try to install more RAM; however depending on your model, it may Not recognize more than the 8GB limit... If you do try, let me know if it works for you.
Sorry for the delayed reply. But, yes you can definitely add more RAM. You can go as high as 16GB DDR3.
I'm not sure if this has been asked in the comments already, but I have a regular 13 inch macbook from late 2009 and from what I read, it should take up to 8GB of RAM, is that true? I really need to update my RAM to properly run Photoshop for my classes, and my boyfriend is a computer geek but he doesn't like mac too much, so he wouldn't know exactly if it was able to go that high. I don't need the extra 4 GB of RAM now, but for cost effectiveness, it would be better to get more for my money.
My macbook is telling me my startup disc is full.. if I was to do this to mine will I need to back everything up etc or will it be in exactly the same working state when new ones go in. Thanks
do you need matching pairs when adding more memory? I have 4GB (two 2GB) and was thinking of adding a new 4GB, to give me 6GB. Is that a good idea?
Would it be the same fir a MacBook air
im having trouble getting screws out which way do u turn the screw driver when taking them out pls help
If that's the 13" (2009 model), the maximum RAM is 8gb I think so it should be safe. Google the maximum ram for a 2009 MB Pro and there'll be a link to the apple support website. I would put the link on here but youtube won't let me. :(
will you lose any of your memory when you replace the chips?
@notetoself911
That's why I decided to film the process. Figured it be a good reference for someone in the future. I'm glad it helped you. And, I appreciate the comments. Please rate and subscribe. I will be posting more Mac info in the near future.
Great thanks mate very resourceful just got to say the crinkling of that plastic bag makes me cringe to my very core but thats probably just my weirdness
Grr.. I have the two stock gigs and one of them doesn't work nor show up. Time to upgrade.. ^^^
would it be safe to upgrade from 2gb of ram to 8gb in a MACBOOK 13"- MODEL #MC240LL/A ?? or would that be doing to much lol
I had a ton of problems taking out the battery screws. Help?
do you need matching pairs when adding more memory? - Yes.
Is that a good idea? - No!
im a macbook late 2010 user and i hate that i need to upgrade my memory from 4 to 8,becose it takes 3.6gb of memory when i just turn my computer on with 10.9 os x
What do you mean by "normal"..? Do you mean Windows based laptops?? If so, it depends on the age and model of your laptop PLUS what version of Windows you're using. If you have only 32-bit Win OS, then the answer is NO - it will not work. 32-bit OS has a limit of only 4GB RAM (maximum). If you have a 64-bit OS then yes you can. In fact you can go up to 128GB of RAM. it's only limited by the system controller. FYI - all Mac OSX are 64-bit natively. Hope that helps/answers your question.
is a memory test even needed though?
shoulda got one 4gb to make a total of 5gb
@qasim0004
Corrected - "...don't even have a macbook", Yet ;)
why am i watching this i don't even have a macbook.
@inpact
Darn it!
Now there's going to be trouble.
beware... I will smite you with my iProtector!
ok... I messed up... now the upper memory stick is STUCK and I'm with 2GB...
NOW FREAKING WHAT??? The darn thing won't UNSTUCK!
Mister Stealth THAT IS MY PROBLEM I NEED HELP
Darn it..! How did you see my password?
Sounds like your HardDrive is full from what you're describing.. So, changing/increasing the RAM (by following this tutorial) will NOT help you any. You need to replace your HardDrive with a bigger one.
