(1:16) In the official translation, it's called "WitchTwr", so I wonder why the fan translation removed "Witch" from it. (11:42, 12:08) Yeah, she takes half of your cash, rounded up. (3123/2=1561.5) (15:05) Guardian Acorn flashbacks there? (19:02) Yeah, in the official translation, her name is Nimufu.
A tip for handling Nina's AP: If the other three members can win the battle, or Nina can't contribute much, use her Will command for her turn. I love Nina, especially towards the end of the game. She and Jean(Tepeta) are godly in the final dungeon, seeing as they both get the Angel and Death spells which can end the hardest fights in 1-2 turns as a lot of enemies there are vulnerable to these spells. Especially an enemy with large hands. Jean is insane against the final boss with his final weapon and Atk-Up spell on him. Bonus points if he's in his shaman form. Also a tip with Sten: If Sten is at critical Hp and the battle is nearly over, use his 'Pretend' command instead of defending. Later on, some enemies will hit hard enough to kill Sten through the defend command.
The fastest way I know of the get the shaman after beating Nymph is to: * Go down to the previous floor and cross the gap; head out the eastern doorway. * Go back inside the tower and get the shaman. * Head from the shaman's room to the treasure room (With all the chests). * Fall down the hole at the southern end of the room. * Walk south and out of the tower.
To open the door at the beginning of the Tower Ryu has to be in front, if you have another character the witch will say something about that character not being what she's looking for and you'll be thrown into a fight for nothing.
I love that game. Thank you for that let's play HC! By the way, for your own entertainment you should have a look at *Battle Chasers: Nightwar* had ben a long while since an RPG got to be that good and is on steam. Actually everyone should play it. Go all of you and thank me later. It will help time pass until the next HC episode of Bof 2. xD
The fact that Ryu is in the first position means he's the most likely to be attacked by Curse. Just for reference, how likely enemies are to attack party members in first through fourth position is literally identical to Final Fantasy 1.
Fin fact: in Judaism gossip is considered a form of murder, as you are murdering someone’s reputation and it is as difficult to restore a reputation as it is a life. Not sure if that is what the witch was referring to but it’s there.
17:14 Its not much of a return trip since you can just keep walking to the right up there and fall out of the tower (from the sky somehow). Its faster to leave that way and come back up to get the shaman too.
I'd think it would be a little faster to reach the Shaman by dropping down the hole in the floor switch room, though without manually counting each and every step, it looks close.
I solved all tower-problems with brute force. It took me probably three times as long as you, but on the other hand all this walking in circles and punching monsters made me pretty damn overlevelled for this part.
HC, I know you won't *use* the hidden character, but *please* show how to acquire them. I love your videos because they are *so* thoroughly researched and are damn near a 100% playthrough on every game.
Relax, I'm pretty sure that he's going to at least show us how to recruit her. I don't always agree with HCBailly's analysis but you can always count on him to explain what's going on.
HCBailly, you don't have to backtrack the entire way down to the bottom floor. Instead what you can do after you have met the witch is simply go down to the previous floor, ride the elevators and then go all the way to the left, and you will fall down next to the tower. It must have been an *interdimensional vortex* since it drops you from waaaay above the top of the tower though... ;)
Definitely go to the area left of the waterfall before the story sends you there. If you follow the instructions on the signs and show mercy, you get to teach someone a really good skill that costs 0 AP and deals nasty amounts of damage compared to your normal Attack command. Just be sure to say "Rare" when the time comes because not making a selection at all will put everyone to 1 HP.
The original translation actually does mean Nympho, Nimufu means Nimph which is Nimphomanic in Japanese so it's the correct translation..I mean her most valued treasure behind her is her BED lol. Another "dont' answer that viewers" episode :D
Can Ryu go an episode without lonely magic wielding ladies wanting some completely disregarding his companions which include very attractive winged and cat ladies? Find out next time!
You know, I've played this game since it was first introduced on the SNES. Still have the cart. I hated Sten. Thought he was worthless without being fused. Hated his "solo" advent, too. Prove me wrong, HC.
As for Nympho and the oficial Nimufu translation I believe they went with the sounds of it, Ny went Ni, theres no M alone in japanese so they usually go with a U together (Mu) and with Pho same reason, no Ph together and since it got the F sound it became Fu. I think its possible to "make up" a Fo in japanese (not so sure about it tho) but as you said, I agree it seems like a poor excuse of censoring the original word.
Based on the English translation calling her "Nimufu," I'd guess the Japanese original went with ニムフ (ni-mu-fu), which is just "nymph." You're right that they could have written ニムフォ (ni-mu-f(u)o) instead if their intent was "nympho." Regardless, my guess is that this was more an instance of the translator not recognizing the word "nymph" rendered in kana than anyone trying to censor the word.
I didnt check the spelling of her name in japanses, just assumed it was a "japanization" of Nympho directly. Its not really rare that they pick an english word and simply use katakana to write it. But checking it now I see youre right, the original spelling was really simply ニムフ
I think it always clears after two battles so long as Ryu is in the lead. If you switch characters, it the counter resets back to 0. Or something like that anyway.
Oops, sorry. I was mistaken on that. I don't think there is a way to farm the AP boosting item, Tendon/Gristle. The listing I saw was for the component values using it in a recipe, not for creating it. To my knowledge, no enemies drop them either.
Several of the enemy names in the official translation are overly literal romanizations of the Japanese names. "Nimufu" is one of them rather than being censored.
Anyone else notice that no matter what game he plays, every item he picks up is either insanely useless or just doesn't meet his expectations. I wonder what game spoiled him with godlike equipment effects or game breaking mechanics. Lul.
Nah, Nimufu is just an _extremely_ shitty translation. For fuck's sake, they translated Algernon as Owl Jornan, Alzheimer as Aruhamel, Quadra as Kuwadora, Ifrit as Ifeleet, and many more!
The dungeon music always makes me feel like the characters are in a fever dream.
A Bailly a day keeps the boredom away
Someone needs to keep a 'Don't answer that viewers' counter. This game is gonna score high.
DemostheneYuan I will re watch this let’s play and on the last video I will comment how many times “Don’t answer that viewers” was said

The Balmung is only marginally less powerful than the Dragon Sword, so that certainly makes sense

Marie-Andrea Gagné or you could do what I do and watch other “let’s plays” while HCBailly is recording one

I think they're on to something.

Nympho...I never got that connection with the localized name but it makes so much sense xD
I solved all tower-problems with brute force. It took me probably three times as long as you, but on the other hand all this walking in circles and punching monsters made me pretty damn overlevelled for this part.
Ermhadgerd, played this game about a million times, never knew about the nina flying out of pitfalls thing
She has to be lead or it won't work
Encounter...rate...is...
DAMN YOU BREATH OF FIRE 2!!!!
This place got me so many levels simply because I kept getting lost. By the time I reached her, she didn't stand a chance.
Been playing this game 20 years and never noticed the bed until just now.
HC, I know you won't *use* the hidden character, but *please* show how to acquire them.

I'll still have to go back for the shaman, though.
True, but I find it easier to backtrack for the Shaman from the start of the tower. Either route is viable though, I guess.

15:05 But HCBailly if you hit the acorns with your sword you'll collect them
kopaka9726 nice
It was at this moment that I realized Lin is not wearing any pants.

Can Ryu go an episode without lonely magic wielding ladies wanting some completely disregarding his companions which include very attractive winged and cat ladies? Find out next time!
Omg I never got this my first couple playthroughs ..the dudes tried to hit it and quit it and got turned into stone!
You know, I've played this game since it was first introduced on the SNES. Still have the cart.

The word "nymphomania" is based on "nymph," so it still works.

Was that a Megaman X reference about the spider boss?
Yes indeed.
Nympho, wow. Eye opening lol xD
are you going to go for ChopChop the 0 AP spell?
Yes, definitely.
I think it always clears after two battles so long as Ryu is in the lead. If you switch characters, it the counter resets back to 0. Or something like that anyway.
better than a GUARDIANACORN!
That 1/256 Iron Shield.
Are there any items that could increase you AP and can you grind for it?
Yeah, you could farm them via cooking. However, even if I didn't ban stat-boosting recipes, it's just easier to cook a bunch of Wisdom Fruits.
HCBailly What is the recipe for AP boost items?
Oops, sorry. I was mistaken on that. I don't think there is a way to farm the AP boosting item, Tendon/Gristle. The listing I saw was for the component values using it in a recipe, not for creating it. To my knowledge, no enemies drop them either.
11:54 don't answer that viewers
I never liked the fact that restoring ap would take hp away
Several of the enemy names in the official translation are overly literal romanizations of the Japanese names. "Nimufu" is one of them rather than being censored.
Man i know what boss your talking about.... that spider boss
That one took some practice, but I always found the giant face harder.
Nimufu was less censorship and more the translators not understanding Japanese renderings of english words
15:05 :D
Anyone else notice that no matter what game he plays, every item he picks up is either insanely useless or just doesn't meet his expectations. I wonder what game spoiled him with godlike equipment effects or game breaking mechanics. Lul.
Any Final Fantasy game, really.
HCBailly :D
HCBailly actually in final fantasy 2 most of the weapons you find in chests are really useful
Nah, Nimufu is just an _extremely_ shitty translation. For fuck's sake, they translated Algernon as Owl Jornan, Alzheimer as Aruhamel, Quadra as Kuwadora, Ifrit as Ifeleet, and many more!
