CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Sand (Judy Davis) and D'Agoult (Bernadette Peters) marvel as Liszt (Julian Sands) performs, and Duchess D'Antan (Emma Thompson) prepares for Sand's arrival.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Amandine Aurore Lucie Dupin, better known in the literary world as George Sand, not only took a man's name, but trotted around wearing pants and smoking cigars in public. No great shakes today, but in the 1800s she was perhaps the most famous (or infamous) woman in the world. One of the first original celebrities, aside from her garb and literary output, she was known to inspire many duels and broken hearts among other famous hedonist artists. One character describes her in Impromptu, as "that graveyard." The film engages in a sexual roundelay among Sand's (Judy Davis) many friends -- Eugene Delacroix (Ralph Brown), Alfred DeMusset (Mandy Patinkin), Franz Liszt (Julian Sands), and Frederick Chopin (Hugh Grant). The entire crew heads off to the summer estate of the Duke and Duchess d'Antan (Anton Rodgers and Emma Thompson), invited there by the culture-vulture hosts. Sand takes a bead on the sickly Chopin and spends her time throwing herself at him. Also on hand is Liszt's mistress Marie d'Agoult (Bernadette Peters) and Felicien Mallefille (Georges Corraface), Sand's recently jilted lover. Mallefille is jealous of any of the other guests who glance in Sand's direction and continually challenges them to duels. Marie, on the other hand, is enlisted by Sand to deliver a note to Chopin. But Marie, jealous of Sand, delivers the note substituting her name for Sand's. And as the weekend continues, the sexual merry-go-round continues at full tilt.

The way Liszt looks like here, the piano he is playing on, and the room and the people in it all resemble the paintings of him really well. This was a really entertaining scene.
I know the one.
Except the way he looks
Repent and trust in Jesus. we deserve Hell for our sins. For example lying, lusing, saying God's name as a cuss word and stealing our just some examples of sin which we can all admit to doing at least one of those. For our sin we deserve death and Hell, but there is a way out. Repent anf trust in Jesus and you will be saved. Repentence is turning from sin. So repent and trust in Jesus. He will save you from Hell, and instead give you eternal life in Heaven.

I know poor man. RIP. That's a bad way to go 😢
The way he hits the chord at 0:44 is astounding, his facial expression, not even looking at the piano, that is truly what Liszt would do.
Akam T twins
He is the most accurate actor of Liszt for me ! Of course not include the piano-playing part...😂
That chord was satisfying.
Why the hell am I blonde?
Uh....
@@pri_kristel you ever been in the 80s? Or 90s? You probably haven't and you don't have any proof that he was fake.
good observation, very meaningful
AHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA
That guy looks like you besides the blonde hair. Give him props
0:56 I can’t believe they cut off the bass drop
0:08 guy at the back looks like Chopin on his picture
I like how they used the Cziffra version while Liszt is playing on the piano then switch to a cuter, lightened orchestral version afterwards.
R.i.p julian very underrated actor.
Kids, do your scales!

I've learned quite a bit about these people which never would have occurred to me from this superb film. Marie D'algou had a salon in which numeerous artists and writers participated: Balzac, George Sand, Heine, Chopin, Liszt and alll the other artists depicted in this film. Even Karl Marx was there! Of all people! Moreover, Marie D'Agou not only had a salon but wrote a history of the 1848 revolution! What a remarkable place Paris, France was then!
I love you julian sands
Liszt is one heck of a SHREDDER
RIP Julian Sands, you’re acting skills were amazing and thrilling, you will be missed❤
R I P JULIAN FLY HIGH 🙏🌹
Wow i like that, in this film they made Liszt pretty similar, they made him as damn attractive as he was
I mean, this black kind of long dress that he wore in combination with his blond long hair is just daaaaaaaaaamn
Can you imagine if they did a sequel movie on Liszt with Julian Sands that encompassed his two romances gone wrong, the death of one of his daughters, his spiritual awakening in his middle age, his retirement from the stage to give lessons and how all this shaped his artistic genius?
Loved this movie. Having suffered through many contrived and hokey composer bio-pics, this one was clearly made for grown ups. Great cast...good sense of humor and art... Maybe it fails for some historically, but I enjoyed it quite a bit.
The dinner scene of this movie is hilarious and well done
This is my all-time favorite movie. . . I LOVE the dinner scene.
I liked when Marie was trying to play footsie with Chopin and he starts coughing
Its called Mazeppa. One of liszts crazy transcendental etudes @columnsx
Trey Hart No it's very easy
Ludwig Van Koopa for sure

This is a great movie..and what a cast!
THANKS, I MIGHT GET IT UNLESS ITS FREE TO WATCH.
Yes it is a great movie.
I realized that they used George Cziffra’s audio of him playing Mazeppa
I wanna visit 19th century Europe
I dont know about you guys but why is liszt playing his s.139 version of Mazeppa rather than the more probable s.137, seen as the s.139 version was published 1852, 3 years after chopin died?
Yeah I thought that too.
I thought the exact same thing!!!!!
That's always the problem appears in the classical composer theme movies...😅
@@Felix_Li_En Sometimes it's just a matter of which version they could afford to license. Some music clips are very expensive.
Love this movie. It should have been a bit with such talented actors and romantic story.
why is liszt blonde?
Because l'oreal: he's worth it.
Because hes a superior member of the Aryan master race.
He was Hungarian
Because he was.
Because he white
I must watch this movie
Great! Nice! and Wonderful!
were u blonde?
@@DeezNuts-ct6zb Yes!
Emma Thompson is brilliant in this film as the ridiculous aristocratic lady. Fantastic performance.
Liszt playing his Transcendental Etude Mazeppa!!!
Chopin and Liszt here looks attractive 😮😮😮😮
Hum, maybe because Chopin is played by Hugh Grant...
@@manuelbes yes. But he's literally handsome for me. Even the real Chopin. Even if Liszt is known as the most handsome guy 🤣
@@hongkijeremy5236 Watch the movie Maurice.
so nobody is gonna talk a bout how this scene ended with a dog bringing a dead bird to them?
What about it...
Preciosa reinterpretación.
People gossiping within earshot was an interesting creative touch in this film.
Liszt is the better pianist but Chopin is the better composer...
Not really. If you take a look at Liszt’s entire repertoire you’ll see a wide range of styles-romantic, impressionistic, atonal, choral Latin hymns, art songs, masses and even a couple of oratorios. Chopin is great too but if he had lived as long as Liszt maybe he would have explored other dimensions for his music as well.
Both are amazing composers that's for sure
Liszt is performing me!
Ya gotta have a gimmick!
Me gusta mas chopin

what is the song name of the 0:40?
Liszt-Transcendental Étude (S.139) no.04 (Mazeppa)
I think he wrote it based off a story where a man is riding a horse and he loses control of the horse and they both fall down a cliff and they get seriously hurt.
looool
he looks like Liszt + reeves
whats the piece liszt plays?
Columnsx mazeppa (transcendental etudes no.4) 랍니다

Fortnite
This is such a good movie Hugh Grant did such a good job playing Chopin
Sometimes I get the feeling that there was hardly a woman in Europe who wouldn't have thrown herself at Liszt feet if given the chance.
Why was Liszt reciting Chopins work?
Liszt didn't play any Chopin's music in this scene
Is this actually a good movie?
Yes. But this is a fictional retelling of Chopin and George Sand's relationship so its not historically accurate.
Not a bad likeness, re Julian Sands and Liszt.
What the hell im blonde
Blonde and bald
Would definitely rather sit on the artistic side of the room, looks much more interesting than the aristocratic side. I doubt I'd ever get invited though, I don't know if I'm artistic enough to be worth their time.
yeah, it's the 4th out of 12 etudes. God, I hate it. I guess the pianist could'nt play it more than 20 seconds... after all he's not the real listz
He is just an actor, not a real pianist ! 😂
By the way, the recording they used here for this film was played by György Cziffra, one of the greatest performer of Liszt !
literally my favourite liszt etude 😂😂😂😂
why dont you like it?

Repent and put your trust in Jesus.
We've all sinned and deserve Hell.
Jesus died on the cross and was resurrected, defeating death and sin.
Since we broke the law, Jesus paid our fine. Since he paid it, we can be let go.
We must repent and trust in Jesus to be saved.
