Eyam/Bradwell Group Ride (Almost a Christmas Ride but no one brought the tinsel)

- Twas the week before Christmas ....and I was beginning to wonder if I was ever going to get out again for a decent ride in 2023. Looking back my previous video was out on Oct 23rd ... shocking! I think I was more regular when I broke my neck and stuff.
The ridiculously wet and windy weather, combined with a "perma cough/cold" over the last couple of months of the year have done a great deal to dent my enthusiasm for spinning the cranks. Very poor I know, but we all know that motivation comes and goes. I finally managed to get the will together and joined up with this bunch for a top day out in the Peak, it gave me much needed kick up the rear at the end of the year!
Joining me on this one was Marc, Christian, Will, Phil and Ant. This ride was new to Christian, Phil and Ant and though it was tough for all of us with near 3500 ft of climbing over 16 miles everyone finished with a buzz as the final descent into Stoney Middleton was definitely providing the fun (and near death experiences lol).
With a new addition to the bike family due I am hoping 2024 starts with a flurry of great rides.
Happy Christmas and a great new year to everyone especially those that regularly take the time to watch my videos, like and comment! The MTB community is such a great crew - thanks for all the support!

Great video mate, but you left out the best climb of the day, the grind up that road with the wind in our faces 😭😭
It was a great loop, certainly one for fitness as well as I found out! How you stayed on over that rock is beyond me, and you had the cheek to say it was a smooth trail at the start of it! 😂 have a great Xmas mate and your family. Congrats on the hot new bike 😉
That rock has definitely grown 😜. Tough route no doubt fur the shirt distance but definitely great for fitness. That golden leafy climb up past the school is the real killer.. especially after having done the windy road climb, then the track up to Great hucklow just before it. Reward is that view along where the Barrel inn is. 😎
@@MTB_Derbyshire was there a view at Barrel Inn, apologies I was still trying to find my lungs 🫁 And I am no fur shirt man either 🙈😂
@@ElectricMountainBiker you know that's the only way my thumbs allow me to spell 'for'.....you're sooooo toxic! 🤣🤣🤣
@@MTB_Derbyshire 😂😂😂😂 Well you never ask before you go for a ride if even allowed on that particular trail 🙈
@@ElectricMountainBiker you got a gpx? Sorry no Gpx no ride 🤣🤣🤣
Happy Christmas to you and Charlie...🎄
Awesome video ! Thanks for sharing them ! 💕💯
Glad you like them!
Absolute brilliant video of an ace day, I’m still chuckling to myself over your “almost a massive OTB” 🤣 the curse is by no means gone 🤦🏻♂️🤣. Such a great loop, a lot tougher than i remember, the difference between summer and winter I guess lol, ace video mate, loved it 👍🏻
The curse continues....😄 Great day out. Definitely rides tougher than the distance but it has some great payback.
Great video Jonathan, OMG that was such a close one on Jacobs Ladder mate
Yep, had the "don't look at the big rock, you'll go towards it .....oh I can't not look at the big rock....😬" moment there didn't I 🤣🤣.
Funny, not many call it Jacobs ladder due to the obvious confusion with the "proper one" above Edale but yep spot on!
🤣🤣🤣🤣 you certainly did mate, I suffer from that one too but with ruts, I’ve lost count how many times I’ve come off and one of those times I got a broken thumb on the “ other” Jacobs Ladder, it’s all character building 🤣
What doesn't kill you.... gives you arthritis 🤣
OMG your bang on the money with that one too, my thumb clicks painfully every morning and aches when it’s cold as well 🤣I’ve got more pains than a greenhouse so another one won’t hurt…..scratch that, yes it will and it does 🤣🤣
Great video mate, looks like a really decent loop. Bet you let out a bit of poo when you went over that rock 😂
Ha ha ....you don't want to know 😂😂😂. I've done that descent loads and think it must have hit excavated by all the heavy rains. In fact that previous descent on the shale strewn wider track has really changed....perhaps that was a Why it had a Road Closed sign at the top 🤔 .. oops! Cheers Jason 👍
Nice vid 👍Done this same route myself, when you drop onto the road after bradwell edge that is the worst part about it but can't really be avoided
Agree it's a necessary evil. Still you've got the joyful climb up to Great hucklow and the part past the school to go 😜. The last few descents are ace though so. 👍 Cheers matey. Have a great Christmas 🎄
Really was a Christmas cracker this, apart from tweaking my quad! Didn't realise how close you were to having that otb until I saw Marc's footage. 😱 great video matey, happy Christmas to you and the family.
Thanks Phil and a merry Christmas to you and yours. Tough old route, but certainly has its rewards. That was a moment wasn't it, I know that descent well and never seen that rock looking so massive 😮
@@MTB_Derbyshire I'd like to do it in the dry for sure.
@@MTB_TrekkerYeo it'd be a little easier. Those massive puddles are a permanent fixture though I think 😂
Awesome vid of a very tough but great day out on the bikes! Thanks for showing us around! That rock!!! ☠️ Have a great xmas and new year! Ps we need to get a HT ride sorted now! 👍
Hard tail ride definitely 👍 now I've got one 🤣. Tough route but some great stuff. You were beasting those climbs Ant 💪 Happy Christmas to you and yours mate. 🎅
Looks a great ride. Some parts I’ve never done up on Shatton moor (?)
Shatton moor is from 6:54 this is followed by Bradwell Edge 😎. Cheers for the comment and a merry Christmas 🎄
@@MTB_Derbyshire It’s actually the bit just before that I’m trying to figure out from the Trig point. Sir William Hill, Abney moor area? Merry Christmas to you too 🍻
Follow the ridge then turn left to the valley.
Looked fun..... Would be nice to have some kind of covering over the microphone.
Cheers yep the wind was immense.l I've got one of those sponge over cases but the little fluffy things work better for wind ....hey ho.
@@MTB_Derbyshire looking forward to the next ride.....
@@gmivisualsjason3729 Cheers matey 😎 and a happy new year!
