Just discovered your channel Andy. Some great rides and routes. This is our back yard here and we are lucky enough to ride straight into it. Nothing wrong with your route planning BTW. The place you thought you’d gone wrong are two errant houses who are wrangling with the permissive angle. The alternate climb you did took you about 50yds from the PBW and would’ve looped nicely back to the van over lantern pike. Nice to remember the summer, but it runs pretty well all year.
Hi. Thanks. I was very confused at the time where I had gone wrong. After getting back on track and was looking at the map I couldn’t believe how close I was to where I thought I’d messed up. Didn’t think till after that I could have just pushed my bike through the farm 😂. Great area. Will defo be back. Very lucky having that right from your door
Great video again Andy, I've actually planned to do Hayfield this Saturday using trailforks "good old hayfield route" so was a surprise to see you've just done it , hopefully I wont get lost 🤣 new gopro footage looks good, mine arrived yesterday so looking forward to trying it out.
Liking the transitions makes those locations look even more exciting ! I’ve finally got some time to come up from “dan Sarf “ and ride some Yorkshire. But first I’m off to Sterling to collect a Deviate ride Dumyat then head for Helvellyn then hit Yorkshire. This over the first weekend in October if you’re about I’ve got a camera for the ride by shots !
The descents look incredible round the peaks, I've done Ladybower and would love to go back and do more. Getting lost is all part of the adventure mate 😁 great vid
That looks like a cracking ride mate, even including your detour. Happens to me all the time and I feel sorry for anyone who tries to follow the gpx off my Strava routes 😃. I really do need to get over to the Peaks at some point; I have been, a few years ago to ride around Ladybower but I reckon it's time for a re-visit. Great video as always 👍
Thanks Jason. I don’t visit the peaks as often as I should. Considering the riding is amazing and techie and just up my street. It’s not often I get lost. But when I do. I do it big style 😂😂
another route i`ll save. been on maps to add a few more miles to it. hope i don`t get lost. having an e-bike, with a spare battery if needed, gives me a lot of options riding natural stuff. when i`m on these trails i tend to go off beaten track a little see what extra paths i could add. my e-bike n garmin completely changed my riding. i like trail centres but these ones make a great day out.
@@TrailFinder very right. my year plans went tits up early with lockdown. i got out up lakes, peaks n dales a lot after it. made a few routes on strava but winged it most times. to descend we need to ride up 1st. really got into natural stuff after seeing your channel. around peaks being my fav area. so many options. its a canyon spectral on 6.0.
You pretty much went past my house in Birch Vale. Where you got “lost” on the non-bridleway I think you could have walked a few hundred yards and picked up the route on the other side of the farm. If you want to send me the route I’ll be happy to try and amend it for you. Great video as always...👍
Your right Simon. I could have done. I ended up doing a huge loop to get back on track. Then ended up at that farm again on the other side. Could have just walked 100m across a field to get to that point. Instead of doing 3 miles and a killer climb 👎
Just a heads up we normally just push through that path that says no cycling. It's not long at all and turns back into a bridleway pretty quick. Think the farmers just a bit arsey
Hi Andy, another great video and keeping us inspired to get out on the bikes, whether it be natural, trail centre, local or otherwise. It's been enough to get me back out after a 3 year gap. Thanks! Any chance you can share some of your advice and experience when using the Garmin to navigate? Particularly around staying on course and getting back on course when it's telling you you've gone off track? Either in the comments or in a future vid?
Hi there great video's I don't know if this a daft question but here goes when go for a ride out, on one you've done before do you think I'll go round the other way this time?
On some rides I do I sometimes think they would be better done the other way around. And I actually do a lot of rides both ways. And enjoy them either way.
I think you were a bit hard on yourself with that one Andy, it was a great video, I did that climb at around 2.22 on my Emtb which was interesting so I can only imagine what it must have been like on an analog bike, I like to plan my rides but when it comes to the Peak District I usually look at OSMaps for a ride that’s been done that way I know I’m gonna make it out alive 😁
I’ll be plotting all rides on osmaps from now on. I usually do it on Strava. As that route planner is brilliant and easy to use. But it doesn’t distinguish between path and bridal way. So sometimes get it wrong like on this ride
Trail-Finder yeah it’s easy to confuse the two, I’ve done it myself so I know what you mean mate, the good news is that there are loads of trails in that area, the long Hayfield loop has got to be one of the best I’ve done, it’s 4000 feet of total ascent and almost 28 miles so it’s a awesome ride
@@brianraymen3085 I wonder whether it's the farmer being arsey about MTBrs going through and he's put the sign up. We were following a route from a book so think we were right?
@@ivanboyes9773 iv done that route a fair few times, last time was early last year i can,t recall seeing a notice no bikers even if i had i still would have gone through as that road climb up to it is a bitch.
Hi Andy. Great footage as usual. Just a couple of cheeky questions. Which programme do you use for plotting your rides, and how is you head unit mounted, on the top tube or handlebars? Hard to tell off the videos...keep up the good work 👍🏻
@@TrailFinder Ah, thanks for that mate. I thought it was a stem mount but couldn't be sure. I tried plotting a route on OS but when i came to use the gpx file on my sat nav the route wasn't exactly snapped to the paths etc and the unit kept telling me i was off course. When i used your gpx file for the wetherby route it was snapped on exactly. Any advice on where I'm going wrong?
I’ve always used Strava route planner for plotting while looking at osmaps. But recently got lost a few times. So the last few rides I’ve used osmaps. It’s not ideal as like you said it’s not an accurate gpx files. I may go back to Strava and just be careful with the plotting. The reason the Wetherby route worked is cos that was done on Strava Another issue with Strava is it doesn’t always show every bridal way. Osmaps is getting better. Online it does snap to paths in national parks. Which does create a proper gpx file. Hopefully the create a program to do that everywhere
@@TrailFinder Ah right. I've been using Komoot and like strava it doesn't show all bridleways, which, for my own area is ok as i know where they are. But it's a bit of a bugger trying to plot a trail in another area where you aren't familiar with paths! Looks like i may have to subscribe to OS to get the bridleway bits...or buy a map of the area i want to ride.... Thanks for your help anyway mate....
Good video, I'm glad you had the balls to post the video too of it going slightly wrong, I always make a mistake in plotting then have to wing it 😅 What rise are your bars 35mm? Are they the race face ones or 6 pack 🤔
I’ve just upgraded to the hero 9. But this ride was hero 8 and it’s upside down on my chin guard on my full face. If you watch my hero 9 vid I show my helmet with it attached
