I am so glad I found your tutorial.I had seen this hack by another crafter and I thought I saved the link but then I couldn't find it. You did an awesome job explaining the procedure. Thank you for sharing!
Your video is the only accurate video I found that actually shows how to achieve the print larger than Circut allow size please make more videos 🙏🙏💯💯💯💙💙💙😍😍😍😍
I have seen a lot of tutorials like this and I gave up trying. No matter where or how I print my file, Photoshop or whatever will change the size. The squares in the corners are halfway cut and no one seemed to adress this in Any way. In case anyone else has this problem- you're not alone lol
I never can get this work properly I followed everything and I'm trying to cut out my custom decals but it dont cut properly it will start to cut good then the machine starts to cut in the image or on the outer
Thank you so much! All the other hacks were for makers and I just got the explore air 2. The print and cut has been so frustrating to me and I don’t like how it forces you to waste paper.
Even though the mat is 12x12 the machine will only cut a maximum of 11.2x11.5, and that's why there's the .25" gap. You also don't have to move the rectangle to the very top of your canvas. When you tell it to cut the machine will always position the cuts in the upper left of the cutting mat. You can move it once you get to that step but if you actually want it there, no extra steps are needed!
Actually, the maximum cut size is 11.5" x 11.5". And, yeah, you don't need to move the rectangle to 0,0 on the canvas; it will go to the top left corner of the cut mat on its own when you press "Make It".
What printer settings did you use for scaling? I’m having trouble aligning the print size with the size of the cut file. The cutting is good, but the print size is either too small or too large. Can’t seem to get it right.
so i had a huge issue with this let me tell you what i did. I save all my print files as PDF and use adobe reader (acrobat) to print them i select the actual size before printing keep in mind you will need to go into the prefrences and select print as image to get color and you will need to use the printer settings in adobe to choose your print quality/ paper type. i also do this for printing out my calibration sheets
I can't get the tutorial to work with A4 (210mm x 297mm) sized paper. I get an error saying: 'At least one of your images is larger than 11.5" (29.2cm) in height or width. Select O.K. to continue with a larger mat or Cancel to return to the canvas to reduce the size.' Looks like using 'Shapes' is reverting to the US letter paper size. Seems strange as here in the UK we use the metric system for our paper sizes and I've got Cricut Design Space set up for A4 sized material. Anyone got a suggestion as to what's wrong? Thanx.
I'm just trying to work this out! It's so frustrating right?! Did you find any better tutorials? If so I'd love to know - it seems like such an obvious thing Cricut should address.
You can use just about any program. Just need to make sure you place the registration squares. I’ve had people tell me they have used MS Word and Paint.
I haven't tried it myself, but I would think it would be the same process and work just the same. I believe the only difference between the Maker and the Explore Air 2 is the type of materials it can cut.
The print-then-cut feature prints a large black border probably an inch from the edge of the paper which really limits your space to print things. Whereas the "hack" lets you print all the way to the edge of the paper therefore fitting more items on it. Also even when using the print-then-cut feature (which I have) it still doesn't always cut properly. This video is 3 years old now and I no longer use the Cricut. Over the years I've spent too much time, energy, money, and materials just trying to produce something decent. The machine is never consistent no matter how much calibrating you do. If I want anything made these days, like stickers, I'm outsourcing because from my experience the cost is the same or less and it saves so much time. If stickers aren't cut right then usually the manufacturer will just re-do them for you for free saving you all the hassle....but that's just my opinion 🙃
@@JessicaLynnIllustration Thank you so much for your reply. I always appreciate when someone shares real-world experience. The information about creating the page placement with masking tape is helpful.
I need help, beginner and I saved a project with text and a cross and when i try to cut it wont let me change from paper to cut and its trying to put words on one page and cross on another even though everything is grouped as one. I have screenshots to show what I mean if you could help I would greatly appreciate it!!!!
Hi ! thank you for your video. Idk why my Cricut (maker 3) doesn't allow me to choose the square mat... so I cannot cut the tape. It wants me to use the bigger mat... Anyone with the same issue...?
The inside square comes out to be 8.5 x 11 inches if you follow all the same measurements as I do. You can use thinner tape but you want to make sure to do a couple strips on each side so it's wide enough for the machine to cut the square out...if that makes sense
Double up your tape I double up the blue tape even and you don’t need to go around the entire mat that is the old way of doing it. You only need the left side and top. You don’t need all 4 Registration squares either. I have new videos explaining this coming soon.
from y our video and thinking about it. i used the plastic sheet that came on it :) new sheet. so i left that sheet cut it then pulled middle. do my cuts then ill put that piece back to help save from dust :) ty
That seems like such a great idea! Do you have an Explore Air or Maker? I'm not sure if my Explore Air could cut all the way through that clear plastic.
@@JessicaLynnIllustration i have the air 2. it cut through great. 1 cut pass on vinyl. then i put tape then did the cut again to help me have a ledge for putting the papers down to help get square. BUT im having trouble. my printer is not printing full page. and the marks are in a little on paper and not lining up to cut right. so driving me nuts. ive tried tweaking printer settings. stumped a lil
Thanks for the tip! Yes a lot of ppl have been having issues with their printer, which even the tiniest change would make cuts off. The only thing I can really suggest is googling your exact printer model and how to remove margins / borders or how to print borderless. Some printers may not have the ability to do this unfortunately, but you'll have to do some research.
Hi! Just want to ask why is there a need for the painter’s tape? Can I still use the hack without the tape as the usual cut setting can normally cut without any tape
The tape shows the outline of where to place your sticker paper. This hack is to bypass the Print Then Cut feature, to allow more room for stickers. Perhaps if you watch Part 2 you will understand.
HI I need help. I do the print and cut but it only print the image I want. It don't print the Sensor/Border Lines around the image for Cricut to cut. Can anyone help me solve this problem.
Hey there so you can't use the Print Then Cut feature with this "hack". You will have to watch Part 2 to see how it works: ua-cam.com/video/TFJZm4_7Iug/v-deo.html
Is this doable for the maker 3? Everytime I set the square the 8.5x11 it gives me an error that cricut only allows 6.75x9.25?? What am I doing wrong lol???
Yes you should be able to. In the DesignSpace software on the left there is a shapes button. I would measure your vinyl where you want to cut and assuming it's one of those basic shapes you could just use those and adjust the size. If you are looking for a custom shape/cut thats where it could get tricky...you would have to either scan your work or take a picture, use an editing program to create your outline for your cut, export the cut lines as a .png file and upload to DesignSpace. It's doable, but a lot more work and room for error. Never heard of screen printed vinyl before, but it sounds cool!
@@JessicaLynnIllustration that’s for the reply! Nothing special I just printed with white ink on oracle 651 but I don’t want to just get squares I wanna contour cut them. Nice vid
I watched a LOT of other videos explaining this but yours is by far the best. Thank you.

I haven't tried it myself, but I would think it would be the same process and work just the same. I believe the only difference between the Maker and the Explore Air 2 is the type of materials it can cut.
Just curious, why would you not use this perfectly positioned mat for calibrating print-then-cut?
The print-then-cut feature prints a large black border probably an inch from the edge of the paper which really limits your space to print things. Whereas the "hack" lets you print all the way to the edge of the paper therefore fitting more items on it. Sorry I have not tried this with A4 as that's not a common size here, but you could give it a try and just change the measurements.

I have thinner tape - what is the size of space you are left with inside the tape lines?
