I love your videos and your girl is awesome! Not many would do what she is doing! You two truly live away from modern things that people take for granted. Thank you both!
I like your Rough Weather Sailing vids, Troy, because it helps me to see what these little boats can handle. I know if YOU start filling your shorts, it's BAD. Before I started watching, seeing the rail shipping a little water would have had me ALL Uptight. Now I'll be able to smile and ease the sheet a little, or the tiller. Or Not.
A very interesting video and it was great showing what is actually involved in sailing. I loved the underwater fish sequence a lot as I am a tropical fish keeper and breeder based here in Melbourne. I used to do a lot of sailing but not as much as I would like to these days, I miss it a lot.
I really enjoy the underwater shots where you leave the camera in one spot for a bit, you get to see behaviors that are missed by moving shots. Thanks for sharing.
Epic! way to go you two. I've been to Australia few years back. Lovely experience, explored a lot of the land. Can't wait to sail over, and explore your seas. Keep'em coming!
After stumbling onto your channel and binge watching every episode from the beginning, I personally think that “Free Range Sailing” is the most informative and entertaining sailing channel on UA-cam. I found your observations and recording of the Aboriginal art sites throughout the Kimberly and Top End particularly interesting. There is a UA-cam channel called “The Thunderbolts Project” which is the collaborative voice of “The Electric Universe” cosmology. Among the many interesting subjects covered there are some documentaries, “Symbols of an Alien Sky” and “Remembering the end of the World” which sets out to explain the almost simultaneous appearance of practically identical myths and legends of planetary gods and archetypal symbology recorded as petroglyphs and rock art by ancient civilisations across the world. I thought I might mention this as I think it may add an extra perspective when trying to decipher the meaning of some of the more abstract characters in the artwork you are studying and once again thank you for all the work putting together a great channel. ua-cam.com/video/vv_sQ4QmqW0/v-deo.html
Here I am in the mountains, watching snow fall passed the window, and tropical fish on my tablet. What a world huh?! Thanks for another entertaining video.
RESPECT FOR YOU BOTH IS GREAT ON MY PART,. Love the beautiful things you show us as you sail along and when you dive to see the creatures in the bottoms there is so amazing. This is something i could never do but i truly do enjoy being along in the videos with you both and seeing the travels from my wheel chair thank you both so very much love hugs and special prayers to you both
I love your video! They understand everything about fish, and how to prepare to eat it. Agitated sea this time, but good sailor, and brave boat is like that, always overtaking.A hug to the nice couple.
Really nice seeing you both. Thanks for sharing your life with this awesome upload..The water 💦 is really rough out there.Be careful and safe the both of you
Another exciting episode and so nice to see you catch a Mackerel Troy. I bet you were hanging out for some fresh fish. The underwater footage was really enhanced by leaving the camera on the bottom for a bit. Just lovely.
Nice to have that stretch behind you. No wonder the old salts in the 1800s used to circumnavigate anti-clockwise rather than sail back to old Sydney town from Queensland ⛵️🌴. Well done!
Doing the hard yards, I lived in Port Mcquairie New when I was younger we used to get solid noreasters all the time. I reckon you would be glad of them now. Well done.
Thankyou again for taking us with you on your adventures again, it takes my mind of the colder wet weather we have here in west wales uk, great video :-)
Extremely enjoying every episode of your great voyage. Thanks so much for sharing. It keeps me dreaming until i can travel on my own little sailboat as you do. Kind regards! Sascha
Seems like the majority of older boats in the States, have CQRs and Bruce. I reckon that technology has moved on now and that they can be improved on. Rocna, case in point. Thanks for the info. Best regards and safe travels.
I think good advice from Captain Grey....Do I know ? No, ...I once was at the helm of a 60 ‘ sailer, crossed over the wake of a Nuclear Submarine to close, leaving Sad Diego bay, promptly was told by a fast closing copter loud speaker to get gone ! The extent of my sailing experience. ... Pascale seems fearless, and confident...rare....Again Troy, lucky you.
Great video on one of your videos you mentioned your favorite condiment Qewpie Mayo well I finally found some and it is great mayo best I have ever tasted thanks for the tip.
Beautiful laid back sailing vid. You two are awesome. Bit sad you didn't share the collection of the crab pots, would have been great to share that whether you caught anything or not......part of the adventure! Next time with your dingy, take the motor off and leave the water in, it'll be just fine, especially left astern. Probably better than inflatables as inflatables are much worse left in the wind, they're always on top. Did my time in them in Fisheries, wasn't pleasant!!!! Just subbed :)
By November the North East winds will have set in and then you will be going the right way around! If you are going to Tassie you need to be in southern NSW by January to get the best weather down there. SV SEAKA.
Have a look at my blog at sailblogs.com/member/seaka for Mid north coast NSW to the Whitsundays. Has plenty of info on what to see etc. SV Seaka is a Top Hat so just a bit smaller than yours.
Hi to you both, Would it be possible to create a different point of entry from the wind vane and rout it through the solar regulator. Would this avoid the need for a regulator just for the wind vane. Please pardon my ignorance on this.Love your way of explaining things and your total way of life. Well done!!!!
When you dive while on anchor how do you make sure a current doesn't pull you away from the boat, unable to swim back to boat? Also, would you film exactly how you climb back aboard? I see a lot of sailboats that look like it would be very difficult due to high sides.
@@jaychilichild9415 You think that they don't have a "nice" boat?? That's crazy. They have a perfect boat for their needs. Not everybody needs or wants a 50+ foot boat. I'd take that boat anywhere any day of the week.
@@mrcompatable I have learned a lot about making repairs and coastal Australia , and I wish them well , of course , but 2 meters of beam is not my idea of a blue water boat . I guess that was my comment , and I don't even see it listed , but they seem happy enough , and that is what matters .
Looking forward to seeing where you manage to put that extra solar. I've been reading up on LiFePO4 and other lithium ion cell chemistry and there's no way I'd hook your wind turbine up to LFP if I wanted to make the *expensive* cells last. :) I've learned that if you charge graphite cathode LiFePO4 or similar lithium ion too fast, then about 150mV above open-circuit voltage the lithium starts to electroplate the graphite cathode with lithium. Immobilising the lithium and losing cell capacity. Happens every time you charge too fast and could happen every charge pulse if not careful choosing a float voltage and current.
I'm still a fan of lead acid at this stage of battery development. They are very tolerant of poor conditions common on small size yachts with budget limitations. Their main draw back to me is weight and that acid may spoil if we careen the vessel without removing the batteries first.
I just read an incident with a lead acid battery being overcharged and was reminded of this conversation. CO detector saved me -- with no CO present www.cruisersforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=207258 Whenever I see people install batteries without an external vent I think I'll link to this post from now on. :) I know that lithium also outgas CO when they thermally runaway. pubs.rsc.org/en/content/articlehtml/2014/ra/c3ra45748f#imgfig6
Wind and tide against you is always nasty, so is sailing to a schedule ;-) I have a question for you - in the video (about 12 minutes in) there is what I thought was a compression post behind Pascale, except it has some hose on top and two jubliee clips, so it is not a compression post. Is it really a water / diesel fill?
Pascal and Troy, Thanks again for another great video!! Couple of questions: We are not sailors - how do you go about sailing all night?? Do you work shifts and monitor the depth finder and GPS?? How do you counteract the effects of salt on your skin?? Thanks Connie and Jack
We wash! Skin gets used to the salt pretty quick, it's the sun we worry about hence the face coverings. Night sailing is done by 4 hour shift watching for other ships as well as maintaining navigation watch as you described. As soon as the other person turns in, we put harness on even when in the cockpit and wake the other if a sail change is required.
I've been wondering why you're going that way around. This is a cakewalk compared to going east across the Great Australian Bight. It's not too late to turn and go the other way around. You've got plenty of time!
Yep. the reason I asked is cos I was in a little boat in a blow one day and we had to abandon the crab nets or risk losing about $600 worth of gear. We couldn't have got the nets as the wind was just blowing the bow away from where we wanted to go.

Free Range Sailing. The Sailingest, sailing channel.
Great episode you two.
Pascale and Troy are freaking amazing.... they make every other "sailing" youtubers look like an episode of the kardashians
ha ha ha
Class act! A true demonstration of managing sails, conditions, food, anchors and navigation, not to mention the dodgy crew.
The dodgiest!
I love your videos and your girl is awesome! Not many would do what she is doing! You two truly live away from modern things that people take for granted. Thank you both!
I agree, what a woman!! The guy is kinda cool too
and often not in balmy tropical summer weather, all in stride
15.6 volts battery equalisation, there is a chart for sizes of battery capacity. Best by far cruising channel on UA-cam!
Charming, enjoyable and inspiring.
I simply love what you two are doing. Thank you so very much for bringing us along...

hard sailing but then that's what it takes to hang with the best . great video.
Can't say enough about the pleasure your videos bring. Fair winds and following seas.
A very interesting video and it was great showing what is actually involved in sailing. I loved the underwater fish sequence a lot as I am a tropical fish keeper and breeder based here in Melbourne. I used to do a lot of sailing but not as much as I would like to these days, I miss it a lot.
WOW...great footage and you're RIGHT about the WRONG way! Superb sailing and underwater footage! I could watch hours of you two sailing! PEACE OUT! Ü

Sounds like my two favourite things
Free Range Sailing Oh man ! It is still warm in the NE US - BUT the time to haul the boat, and snow flying is upon us!
My God! You're a game couple. Good on you.

Thank you Dave, we're very happy to bring you a look at the country we live so much.

What a great video as usual. You two are awesome and so brave. Safe sailing. And god bless.
Wow, some weather, good to see the latest from you guys.
Loved that video!! Neat to see some real sailing. I’m sure it was hard work but bright and beautiful seas!🛶
I was down by the Great Lakes the other day. Calm n flat compared to this. And nice use of the dramatic music when attempting the dinghy launch. :)
Really nice seeing you both. Thanks for sharing your life with this awesome upload..The water 💦 is really rough out there.Be careful and safe the both of you

We are constantly trying new perspectives. It's a lot of fun for us too.
Excellent as usual!!!
That looked like pretty tight navigation going through those strips of reef .....
Yet again, you knocked it clean out of the park.
Great Sailing you two Troy your the Boy ? Much Respect xx vic wylde
The best sailing channel by far.
Always an excellent video!
You two looked like you been through the mill it will get better can’t wait for next leg
Liked the recap and Id of all the unique fish at the end of the vid
It had been popular!
Nice to have that stretch behind you. No wonder the old salts in the 1800s used to circumnavigate anti-clockwise rather than sail back to old Sydney town from Queensland ⛵️🌴. Well done!
We knew it was coming but it was worth it to revisit the Kimberley and film it for you all.
Doing the hard yards, I lived in Port Mcquairie New when I was younger we used to get solid noreasters all the time. I reckon you would be glad of them now. Well done.
With all the crap that's on UA-cam your channel is a complete delight. Good work Capt. Troy.
Couldn't do it without my crocodile tester!
My gang keeping it real.
Love the music @14.30 Pasky sort of cool 80s vibe suited the vid beautifully
Did you check out our Spotify list Raph?
Tis episode made me want a lot a sailboat! Thanks for sharing!
Thankyou again for taking us with you on your adventures again, it takes my mind of the colder wet weather we have here in west wales uk, great video :-)
The real deal. Great stuff. Thanks for sharing.
Extremely enjoying every episode of your great voyage. Thanks so much for sharing. It keeps me dreaming until i can travel on my own little sailboat as you do. Kind regards! Sascha
Looks like a lot of fun
I really like your technical advice about windgenerator and the sailing and the fishing! Greets from Belgium :)
Epic video. You guys capture the moment (passage). Pure sailing.
love the show allway a blast to watch thanks for sharing
Those stationary underwater shots.
You guys are Bad Ass, I love your videos, Happy Sails !!!

AS always a great video - thanks for sharing your voyages and knowledge.
Great seeing the more frequent videos again, love following along
Those Little Clowns at the End Looked Like they were taking a Bow....CUTE
Love your videos. 😜

Excellent vid ya'll, your videography is getting pretty darn good.
Wrecked my ultra light on the beach West off Bewich island 28 years ago .
Clown fish are the best!

Great video on one of your videos you mentioned your favorite condiment Qewpie Mayo well I finally found some and it is great mayo best I have ever tasted thanks for the tip.
Keep them coming guys
"Oh the peace and quiet of sailing"
What did you say? I cannot hear you over the sound of the wind turbine!!
......"oh nothing"
Excellent m8's! A tough leg I reckon.
It was challenging all the way till the wind died completely just out of Cairns!

Thanks for the advice and the anecdote. Welcome to the crew, hope you like all of our videos and we hear from you again.
Another great episode. Always informative and interesting as well as entertaining. Look at those subscriptions grow 41K already .Cheers !
Growing slow but steady. We have a really good audience with plenty of accomplished sailors.
By November the North East winds will have set in and then you will be going the right way around! If you are going to Tassie you need to be in southern NSW by January to get the best weather down there. SV SEAKA.
We are heading down but not this year. We will need plenty of local k knowledge as we go.

The solar regulator wouldn't like the output and can only handle 20amps.
Oh... your video is awesome and, I'm really enjoying your video everyday. ^^
Awesome vid guys, as usual, I was transfixed:)
thanks for another cool video!!
Nice video and subscribed

love it!, bests
Only sailing video to show what it is really like to sail and live on a boat.
Everybody else has such a nice boat in their sailing vlog ( video log ) , I almost feel sorry for them .

some real sailing there!
I hope you have ordered the new bearings for your wind gennie?
great vid.
New blades did the trick.
There's no such thing as sailing the wrong way😁😁😁
Thanks for the excellent videos. Really good. Please tell us your anchor type and what you recommend as a solid cruising anchor for main and spare.
I have a lot of faith in our Rocna anchor. I would get another for a spare if I didn't already own a plough pattern.
Top notch guys, a couple times i leaned on my couch to compensate for the rolling of the boat!
Saxophone for me. I knew it from you're music
Music is pretty important in our life! Glad you're loving the tunes. P
Epic! 👍
Saludos para usted y su esposa dios los bendice de día y de noche la sombra de san Pedro los protejen reciban un fuerte abrasó
Loved the spotify play lists! Keep that coming! Pascal has a fantastic shit eating grin in heavy weather!! Love it!
Oh glad you are enjoying it- one more thing we can share with you!
Great video mate ?
Curious to see how long your battery lasts with the Troy regulator. :)
If it's FLA, inspect the plates for sulfination and top up for us...
Sulphation is my prime concern. We are actually going to install more solar capacity.

Sea water flooding a battery compartment is particularly nasty with leaf acid too.
Wind and tide against you is always nasty, so is sailing to a schedule ;-)

Fill point for diesel bunker of 200 litres.
that's a hard go... n' tiring.
4:40 time to put a load of washing on, and get your hair straightener out! :p
Pascal and Troy,
Thanks again for another great video!!

You would be an Exceptional father Troy.
I might be a bit of a hypocrite if I busted my kids for truancy at school though:)
Which lure would you like? I'd like to pay you back for the efforts you have both made! Let me know, and I'll shout you at least that.
Thanks Mark but that's ok, we are fully stocked. We're just happy to have you as part of the crew. Hope you stick with us.
How good are those Qantas lures for pelagics.
We love the Bonito pattern even more
Lovely video, Pascale is a great first mate! Troy, your skills on a craft are most impressive and confidence inspiring! I enjoy your channel!!
I s there an episode where you go into detail about your folding dinghy?
We have to do one. I think the pros and cons will be interesting. It is in the works.
As always 👍
Seems your dinghy is channeling it's inner Marlin...
I've been wondering why you're going that way around. This is a cakewalk compared to going east across the Great Australian Bight. It's not too late to turn and go the other way around. You've got plenty of time!
It's part of the deal.
That was a bit sloppy for a while. Did you have to leave the crab net? I bet that wind blows the bow of the dingy off course? cheers.
The dinghy is fine with people in it but they are all hard work in a blow.
Yep. the reason I asked is cos I was in a little boat in a blow one day and we had to abandon the crab nets or risk losing about $600 worth of gear. We couldn't have got the nets as the wind was just blowing the bow away from where we wanted to go.
Sounds like a no BS little storm you picked for your fishing.
It wasn't a storm. It was just blowing like a bastard. Come up out of nowhere. About 60 knts I reckon. On an otherwise usually fairly protected lake. Lake Tuggerah.
That'll do it.
What a glorious day in my subfeed. New Free Range Sailing video, new Delos video and Elon Musk on JRE. Glorious day indeed!
