@@GoMagic The quality of the video convinced me to sign up for gold. I'm curious to see if this works for me in a few months.

An important question is "does my invasion create any weak groups for my opponent". I would consider that question first.

That's a big one, you're right! But this question is covered in one of the other lessons from the invasions course.

4:28 Would (11, 4)(bottom side) be a good shoulder hit? White has stones on the left and might think of connecting to the right side while potentially building up a (strong) wall towards the middle?
I am currently in my first week of playing Go (바둑) and so far only played 9x9. These explanation videos with examples help a lot. I am starting to win a few games. I am not ready and comfortable to switch to 19x19 yet but my intuition and pre move thinking are improving. (I am 21kyu on (a) the third party app of ogs, once I start on 19x19 that will go down a bit, but feeling pretty good.)

This move is possible. However a shoulder hit works best when your opponent has a large area that you want to reduce. In that example Black only has a small territory there.

What about san-san under hoshi during the fuseki? A popular AI inspired move that violates the invading too early paradigm. Go is hard. 🙃

Well, it's not really an invasion, because hoshi does not secure a corner. So it's a standard joseki, a matter of trading territory for influence.

You're right, san-san invasions are very common and we already covered them in this video

Great point about invasions in general. I would point out the current war in Ukraine as an example too.

Yes, we could have, but then again, there were a lot of risky or failed invasions in history.
